board budget cuts. that's the decision state leaders are making. live in the newsroom with more on what the lawmakers say. their work is not done. >> good morning. time ran out of the legislative session and lawmakers passed a budget but they were unable to reach an agreement on a key revenue plan. they failed to pass a tax hike on individuals making more than $100,000 a year and couples making more than 150. without that extra revenue, $250 million will have to be cut in the budget in the next fiscal year. no decision has been reached on whether or not the governor will call a special session or if those budget cuts will be allowed to go through. >> thank you very much. could take effect on july 1st. >> aside from budget problems, the state is also dealing with a red flag warning today. officials say dry conditions and high winds have made it easy for brush fires to start. in anne arundel county, fire crews have responded to more than 50 brushfires.

and another fire temporarily forced people from their homes. experts say the danger won't be over until the area gets some rain. and a live look outside. no rain that i can see. plenty of sun. is there any signs of rain out they are? for more on the conditions, let's go to marty. >> good afternoon, everyone. let's look at the watch warning and advisory. it's not just the state of maryland. it is a good chunk of area. the state of maryland is the exception. let's go to first warning doppler weather radar. this takes the airport radar and puts them together. the stuff you see over the upper eastern shore, that is really not falling. you have to go way up over the great lakes to find any significant moisture area i would love to tell you it's going to move our way. if anything does, it's going to be this energy up over michigan, but there's not a lot up there. frankly, we are not even sure

it gets to the west. having said that, here is the additional problem. look at our current temperatures. not only is there no real rain and the forecast, it's incredibly dry. that 60 is the current temperature or you did 2 points or 24. not only is the ground dry, the air is dry, and there is no real rain coming our way. so when we get out of this mess, a good question. that discussion coming up. >> for the first time we are hearing from a florida neighborhood watch volunteer who shot and killed trayvon martin. george zimmerman releases a statement on a website that also asked for help with his legal defense. martin's family continues to push for an immediate arrest, but the prosecutor is taking more time. >> reporter: at george zimmerman

speaking out for the first time. the man who says he shot and killed trayvon martin in self-defense has created a website called the real george zimmerman. in it he describes the shooting as a life altering event and says, i have been forced to leave my home, my employer, my family, and ultimately my entire life. the man says he cannot work and is asking supporters to donate to his legal fund and living expenses. >> he said that he experienced a life altering event area well, trayvon martin experienced a life ending even. >> the family and demonstrators nationwide one zimmerman arrested. on monday protesters blocked the front doors of the stanford florida police station. during the night someone shot out the windows of an empty police car in the same neighborhood where martin was killed. >> officials and the martin family are asking for patience and calm. it has been six weeks since trayvon martin's death. the special prosecutor says she

needs more time. >> angela quarry says and the rest will be her call and she's not going to present a case to a grand jury. martin's family and zimmerman's attorneys both see it as a positive sign. >> our expectation is there will not be charges filed. >> the decision not to use a grand jury means zimmerman cannot be charged with first-degree murder. if he's arrested, he can still be charged with lesser crimes. in sanford florida, randall pinkston, wjz eyewitness news. >> police let zimmerman go the night of the shooting say they found no evidence to contradict his claim of self-defense. >> an off-duty police officer shoots himself after a police pursuit on eastern shore. a staged report stopped to the officer on route 50 in your easton for speeding and suspicion of drunk driving but he took off. troopers found him with a gunshot wound to his head. he was pronounced dead at the

scene. in prince george's county, a six-year-old boy is dead after accidentally shooting himself. the boy shot himself yesterday afternoon and his great-grandmother's home in clinton. police say he found the gun in a backpack inside the house. >> this is every parent's worst nightmare. it is our worst nightmare as well. >> it's sad for anybody, but a six-year-old, life has just begun for them. >> prosecutors are now trying to determine whether the gun owner should face any charges. >> some off the field comments locate miami marlins manager out of the dugout for a while. this morning he was suspended for five games. this comes after the often outspoken man was quoted as saying, he had to have respect for fidel castro. he has since apologized for the comments. as for the orioles, they look to rebound from their first losses boreal state. a big night playing the yankees

>> we are now hearing the frantic 911 calls made moments after a navy fighter jet crashes in virginia beach. it went down friday in the middle of an apartment complex. the navy says the jet experienced a catastrophic mechanical malfunction during takeoff. a 911 caller describes what he saw shortly after the plane hit the ground. >> i'm looking at right now. >> is it in the water collects. >> it's in an apartment

complex. i saw the pilot bail out. >> investigators say they are examining the life recorder. the government has also started paying out $2300 to people whose homes were damaged or destroyed. >> a terrified ride on a school bus for students in washington state after their bus driver has a heart attack right behind the wheel. surveillance cameras show the drivers slumping back in his seat and the bus veering off the road. that's when a student jumps up and grabs the wheel. the 13-year-old says he was just tried to keep the bus on the road. >> i'm just thinking, i just want to stop the truck because i don't want to crash. i just don't want to die. >> he was able to steer the bus to safety and then he and other students performed cpr on the driver until help arrived. no students were hurt. the driver remained hospitalized. >> facebook makes a pricey purchase and is the proud new owner of instant ram, the social media sites spent a billion dollars to purchase the popular photo sharing app.
