this is wjz-tv, wjz-hd and wjz.com, baltimore. from the city to the counties to your neighborhood, now is complete coverage. it's wjz, maryland's news station. >> hello, everybody. i'm denise koch. we begin with breaking news tonight. a baltimore county church is destroyed by flames and firefighters work in dangerous conditions. the fire started in a shed by the zion baptist church by boulevard and quickly overtook the building. drivers take extra precautions. the fire is under control but will stay on the scene into the night. for the risky conditions are causing dangerous conditions. kai jackson is looking at what's fueling the fires.

kai? >> reporter: brush fires have been around maryland. authorities say the danger is just heating up. >> all it takes is a spark in conditions like this to ignite a wood fire, brush fire. >> reporter: a combination of a short fall of rain during the week, low moisture in the ground, and high wind created perfect conditions for devastating fire. >> my house, my neighbor's house. >> reporter: the u.s. geological survey said the mild winter had little to no snow melt. represented by wind and orange dots.

there's a danger of wildfires along the east coast. >> they said you better get out of here. it's getting close. >> reporter: there was a red flag in baltimore county that expired, however, because of the conditions, open burning in baltimore county, they're encouraging residents to be careful with discarded cigarettes or even using your fire grill. >> thank you, kai. will we see the rain? bernadette woods will show us the forecast in just a few minutes. we learned tonight that the prosecutor in trayvon martin's death case will make an announcement in the next 72 hours. the nation is waiting to see if he'll charge against george zimmerman. this, as we hear from zimmerman for the first time about the controversial shooting, randall pinkston has new information from sanford, florida. >> reporter: attorneys quake,

cory announced she would decide herself whether to bring charges against martin. they worked to set up a meeting between zimmerman and the investigators, but they were surprised to learn this afternoon that zimmerman called cory's office himself. >> one of the things every defense attorney tells his client is don't talk to the prosecutors, don't talk to the cops. frankly, don't talk to anybody until they get control of the situation through counsel. >> reporter: randall pinkston, wjz eyewitness news. >> hasn't hired a new lawyer and as of now, no charges. protesters are not letting up in their call to have zimmerman accountable. there's awareness raised about the case. no arrests. calling it quits. rick santorum drops out of the race for the white house. the republican candidate announced today he is suspending his presidential bid. he has half as many as romney

and his severely ill daughter is in the hospital. two mceast ton lacrosse players get suspended for carrying around a lightener their bags. >> reporter: this has been a yearlong fight for these teams. they were carrying these items to repair their lacrosse sticks. two suspended, one arrested after a lighter and pen. in a rare move, the state school board hasover turned and the records wiped clean. >> i felt really relieved that it was finally over. >> reporter: called it an explosive device. the small pen a deadly weapon.

a fire at a tennessee complex sparks a raging wildfire. four buildings were totally destroyed before spreading to the woods. 175 acres scorched and makes it difficult to contain the fire.

so far, no injuries reported. a gas station in portland overwhelmed by the flash mob robbery. sixteen teenagers involved, seen taking items off the shelf and walks out. some threw objects there. stole $300 worth of merchandise. more than 400 students at boston university may be facing criminal charges after a hazing incident. five students were duct taped in the fraternity house. the men were covered in red and doused with food products. many are appalled by the allegations. >> the back door, this is the kind of offense we would ask students to no longer be associated with the university.

harmful toxins in nail polish may be putting salon workers at risk. the polishes are labeled as nontoxic, but contain chemicals that can cause cancer, only available at salons. they can be facing fines. they came without warning and the speaker from the orioles opening game came out. the man dressed like bat man was arrested but the report is out of jail and can't believe he's let off the hook, after a mistake. >> the crusader comes to life in the home opener. more than a quarter of a million people have watched it online. >> my name is harvey. >> why did you do this? >> it was my birthday and i just love to make people laugh.

that warning is in effect in the entire d.c./metro area. bringing in colder air, freeze watches, and warnings tonight. the temperatures already coming down. 33 degrees in oakland and haigers town, still hanging on with cool air coming our way. 66 degrees, you can see above the average. 63 because it is climbing. average at 41 degrees, but we're going to be below both of these for tomorrow. the colder air comes our way and it's coming courtesy of another front. there's not a whole lot to this front either, but we're really lacking in the moisture department. there's a chance for a couple of showers as it moves through. it will keep the winds up and gets out of here on thursday and reenforcing the dry air behind it. all the factors do not help in the fire fighting and the fire threat. it will cool down also but wait until you see the five-day
