earthquakes two tremors send people runing for cover. >> the chaos as tsunami warnings are put into effect. >> good afternoon, i am don scott. >> i am jessica kartalija. >> here is what people are talking about, a strong earthquake rocks the indian ocean off indonesia, moments ago a tsunami warning was lifted, and as she reports it brought back memories of the earthquake in 2004. >> reporter: the powerful earthquake lead to evacuations. civilians directed traffic as people headed to higher ground close to the epicenter. there was panic, women fainted and crowds gathered at mosques to pray. many feared the worst because a quake in 2004 hit the same area and killed 230,000 people. this man says he felt the ground shake for nearly six

minutes. >> -- running out -- running out, screaming and everybody was screaming that -- that there miss there is some earthquake happening. >> they were moved outside and they were placed under a warning after a second quake hit hours after the first one. >> after shocks will go on for weeks, months, maybe as long as years. you wouldn't expect any more after shocks this big. >> indonesia remains on high alert but the president says there are no reports of deaths or serious damage. monica, wjz eyewitness news. >> and we have her standing by. >> when you are talking about an 8.6 that is a massive size earthquake so we have looked at some of the old ones, the

biggest one ever was 9.5, this 1 is tied for 7th, the other one that happened there was a 9.1, now there was not a tsunami as was the other one. the reason is this is a different type of quake. the earth can move in different directions, this one goes side to side. the one that happened back then went vertically so we did not have that fortunately at this time. we will keep you updated. >> thank you. they reported feeling tremors. >> this week the prosecutor reviewing that will make an announcement. she must decide whether to charge george zimmerman. she is already ruled out a grand jury, which means that zimmerman cannot be charged with first degree murder.

but if he is arrested he could be charged with lesser crimes. prosecutors here are wrapping up their case against the two brothers accused of setting a pit bull on fire. we are live at the courthouse. weijia jiang has the latest. >> reporter: good afternoon. the lead prosecutor just finished up her closing argument after reminding jurors of every single piece of evidence they saw and heard in this trial and now the defense is presenting their closing arguments and one attorney said right away there will not be justice for that dog because she says the wrong people are on trial. both prosecutors and defense attorneys rested their cases in the trial against 20- year-old twins travers and trumaine johnson. the brothers are accused of setting this pit bull on fire in may, 2009. the puppy, nick named phoenix was burned so badly she had to be euthanized. >> her tongue, her eyes, her

pads are scorched off. unbelievable. >> the violence sparked widespread outrage across the country, then again when it ended with a deadlocked jury. during the next trial they faced challenges, a witness refused to testify. the judge found her in contempt of court, then gave her prison time. the defense tried to rattle the case even more, arguing the police officer who first responded to the scene did not secure it, take pictures or interview witnesses. animal welfare advocates have been in court for the entire trial, hoping for a conviction. >> we hope that there is a good verdict in the case but either way this case has brought enormous attention to animal abuse here in our city. >> each johnson brother faces four charges, the most serious one is aggravated animal cruelty. that is a felony and if convicted they could spend up to three years behind bars. reporting live in downtown

baltimore, weijia jiang, wjz eyewitness news. >> the jury is expected to start deliberating this afternoon. >> prince georges county police make an arrest in connection with the shooting of a six-year- old. raymond brown is charged. police say he was staying in the same home where the boy lived and where he found a gun supposedly hidden in a spiderman back pack then shot himself in the chest while playing with it. an international manhunt for a man suspected of murder ends in baltimore county. oscar santino was arrested at his home. he is wanted in honduras, where he is said to be a gang member. when he is extradited it will be the second time he has been sent home from the united states. >> two high school lacrosse players can breath a sigh of relief after a reversal in their suspensions, ron matz has the update. >> the state school board has overturned their suspensions. last april the teens were

suspended after a lighter and penknife were found in their bags at a get away -- an away game. the students argued the items were used to repair their lacrosse sticks. they said school officials did not use proper desecration in suspending the students and has ordered their records wiped clean that comes late as suspensions impacted their college applications. >> i applied for eight colleges, with seven of the applications had have you ever been suspended from school and if so please explain below. and if i tried to explain that to any college they would not have taken me. >> both dennis and edsell have been accepted to shenandoah university again where they will be on the same team. back to you. >> in its ruling the state school board argued the suspensions violated the county's discipline code. in baltimore county dallas

group of peruvian miners. they have been rescued. the cause of the original collapse is not known. the university of california davis is releasing an on-line report on the pepper spraying of students by campus police last fall. this video made national headlines in november when officers pepper sprayed student demonstrators. uc davis police officers union sued to keep the document under wraps but a judge approved its publiclation without the names of the officers. today will be the last parole hearing for charles manson. he and his followers were convicted in the 1969 slayings of sharon tate and 6 others, manson is now 77, will likely not show up for today's hearing. under current law inmates can be denied the chance for reapply for parole for up to 15 years so he could be 92 before he is eligible for another hearing.

but still just a chance. we will show you clear skies overnight but the clouds coming and here are those showers you see not that far away, no showers out there. now there is also a wind bringing in cooler air. we are at 49 here. 49 in dc. out in the mountains it was in the 20s overnight, 36 in oakland, compared to yesterday we are 10 to 15 degrees cooler for most of us. now, because of that colder air we do have freeze watch all the way down to carroll county for no, sir overnight hours. it is going to be a cold one tonight and tomorrow we will start to recover but we have a really nice warm up heading our way in the five-day-forecast. get tot that in a moment. first up this front though. it comes down from the northwest. you see all those showers with it. then this gets out of here for tomorrow once again. we dry it out once again which is not good for that fire danger. here is that front leaving us. the gusty winds tomorrow, a
