night and will last for weeks. drivers on the jfx used to go, go, go may be going slow, slow, slow. >> that's the expressway, getting out of here. it's going to be a regular street. >> reporter: starting at 7:00 p.m. friday, one lane north and southbound will be shut down near the 29th street bridge after holes were found underneath the surface of the road. >> it is being closed for safety purposes. if left unchecked, it could become a sink hole. >> reporter: the closure is expected for at least a month. to avoid the gridlock all together, officials suggest opting for public transportation. >> if you've ever sat in gridlock, you know what that hassle can be like. >> reporter: the maryland transit administration is encouraging drivers to hop a train to work instead of sitting

first court appearance, charged with second degree murder in the shooting death of trayvon martin and entered a plea of not guilty. we have more from sanford, florida. >> reporter: george zimmerman is spending a second night behind bars. >> mr. zimmerman. >> yes,sir. >> you are represented by mr. ramira, is that true? >> yes,sir. >> reporter: the prosecution is standing behind its case. >> second degree murder we thought it was an appropriate charge and that's why it was filed. >> reporter: they're painting zimmerman as the aggressor. he disregarded the police dispatcher who told him not to follow martin through a gated community. zimmerman got out of the vehicle and followed the teen. martin's mother identified the screams heard in a 911 call as

her son's. he's expected to remain here until his next scheduled court appearance at the end of may. his attorney has decided at least for now, not to seek mail. his decision was everyone's benefit. >> it just didn't make sense with the way the case is now with my client's status and quite honestly with the attempt to truly calm this case down. >> reporter: martin's parents say they're taking things one step at a time. >> we just, we're putting our faith in the lord and hoping that the justice system see fit for him to be convicted. >> reporter: he told police he killed trayvon martin in self-defense. >> and zimmerman is set to be arraigned may 29th. his attorney plans to seek bond at some point. breaking news in new hampshire, a police chief is killed during a drug raid.

it happened in the small town of greenland. the officers were serving a warrant when they were shot. the police chief was just days away from retiring. four other officers were also shot. a door to door salesman saves three children from a house fire. chris owen was giving a sales pitch down the street when he noticed the smoke and saw the flames. he helped the three children inside escape. a busy day for firefighters, they also had to battle this brush fire along the beltway. it's the same problem we've seen all week as dry and windy weather creates dangerous conditions for fires. firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading. police argents and lieutenants have a message for john liepold, resign. now they're sending the message into the air waves. mike has the show down.

>> reporter: police unions have been outspoken critics of john liepold calling for him and the police chief to go among accusations he was mistreating his security detail and ordering them to dig up dirt on his enemies while the chief ignored it all. airing a series of radioads to spread its message. >> doing the right thing wasn't easy, but when leaders won't do the right thing, we're lucky that someone will. >> reporter: the head of the union responsible tells wjz he's going to keep up the pressure. >> if there is any basis for the chief turning a blind eye to the county administrator's alleged shenanigans, i say shame on the chief. >> reporter: they call it an attempt to bully liepold. >> when they're charged with breaking the law, where do you turn? when leaders like the police chief seem to care more about

their own power than the safety of the people they're sworn to protect, what do you do? you standby police chief emerson davis. >> reporter: he testified and urged a federal investigation. at his urging, they dropped davis' name from the ad. >> sometimes you have to make decisions that are contrary to the beliefs of the administration you work for. >> reporter: liepold plans to fight the charges in the court. he's expected to go on trial in september. >> and the ads will air on three radio stations in the baltimore area. battling against bullying. one of the year's most talked about movies debuts in baltimore. we're there tonight for the premier of bully. the governor and the first lady watched the screening. the documentary follows five children who are bullied by

splintered at lift off and fell into the sea. several countries warned against the launch calling it a provocation and a cover for a nuclear test. they claim it was only carrying a satellite. the man accused in the shooting rampage at a california college expresses remorse during a jailhouse interviews. charged with killing 7 people last week, he told a reporter from our sister station in san francisco that he knows saying he's sorry won't bring the victims back. he reportedly has confessed to police, but he says he doesn't remember much from that day. he was a former nursing student at the school. he says he was targeting an administrator who was not there on that day. at least 15 horses are dead after a fire destroys this stable. helicopters are searching for several other animals missing. 31 horses were boarded inside the barn. investigators are trying to determine if coals from a nearby

grill sparked that fire. the fbis most wanted list includes a former local teacher who takes the spot once held by osama bin laden. he's very good at going unnoticed. >> he wouldn't be going on this list if we didn't think he was a significant danger to the public. >> reporter: he's talking about 30-year-old eric taff, the former teacher in northwest d.c. is wanted on child pornography charges. authorities say it was back in 2008 that a school camera containing child pornography was found in his possession. he's been on the run ever since. >> he fled ahead of the law enforcement response with other information in there that had child pornography. >> reporter: he also goes by the name of david busone is accused of producing child pornography in maryland. while on the run, he's been in

virginia, illinois, indiana, wisconsin, and minnesota. he was living in phoenix, arizona most recently. when authorities came looking for him, he eluded capture' gain. >> he's able to form trusting relationships with adults, at least in part to groom future victims. >> reporter: he's been able to stay on the road because he constantly changes his appearance, evidenced by these pictures. he is an expert at social engineering, meaning he knows how to blend into various groups of different socio-economic backgrounds, which the fbi says makes him more dangerous. >> i hope he reaches out to us and says here i am, i surrender. in the absence of that, we will hunt him. >> anyone who provides tips could be eligible for $100,000
