construction, it's a traffic nightmare. >> it's going to be just miserable. >> where to stay clear of and why drivers aren't the only ones who should be concerned. >> let the traffic headaches begin. several lanes are now closed. the main road in and out of downtown baltimore. wjz is live. not just computers worried about traffic tie ups. >> reporter: you can see some of those lane closures right now. and they will be closed for six

to eight weeks. the orange barrels are out and so is concern about the closures. >> you have to wake up earlier, get to work earlier. >> it's not even possible, i am not going to go that way. >> reporter: lanes were shut down as workers repaired holes on the road. >> this isn't something we have the luxury of rating. for public safety we better move now. >> reporter: the closure is not just trouble for commuters, it may also delay fire and medics. >> it can add a minute or two to that response. >> reporter: something that has residents nervous. >> it's just not fair. the police department has to worry more because they have to

take more time getting to where they need to get. >> those vehicles they need to be mindful. this could be my family member so yield the right of way. the city has mapped up several ways around i83 so drivers can steer clear. those who don't may see a lot of break lights come monday morning. and police officials tell wjz they do not believe that these lane closures will affect their response time. live along the jfx, i'm megan mccorkel. >> take metro if you can. police say they found a man tied to the brutal beating downtown. he's one of several men wanted for this vicious attack. police say the group beat up then robbed a tourist last

month. the video went viral. >> people have seen that video and it's the result of that video that got people as far away as california to get involved in a case in baltimore because what happened is frankly unacceptable. >> detectives are looking for several other suspects including the two other people seen in this surveillance video. a police officer kills a man after a fight gets out of control. wjz is live at shock trauma. monique griego find out more. >> reporter: he was shot and killed because he attacked an officer. just before 6:00 tonight, police say screams broke the silence of this neighborhood. >> the woman came running

yelling help me, help me. >> before the officers arrived we received a call that the woman had been dragged back into the home by the male half. >> reporter: the domestic disturbance turned deadly. at some point the man and the officer ended up in the back of the house. that's where a struggle ensued and the officer shot the man at least once. >> then i heard three shot, very quick, bang, bang, bang. >> reporter: emergency crews rushed the man to shock trauma where he died. >> they came with somebody on a stretcher doing chest compressions. >> reporter: tonight it's still unclear whether the suspect was armed. and while neighbors are still in shock with what happened they are happy police responded quickly. >> glad it wasn't the woman hurt and glad it wasn't the policeman hurt, that's how i feel. >> reporter: police tell us they've had no previous calls for domestic disturbances to that home and the investigation

into the shooting continues. monique griego. >> the man accused in the shooting is in custody. a jurily acquits a man charged with hit-and-run and leaving two girls to die. mike hellgren has emotional reaction to the sentence. >> reporter: the two girls were thrown across the street and left to die on the pavement after a hit-and-run last week. >> get the camera out of my face, please. >> reporter: their loved ones were frantic outside the courthouse after he was not charged. >> he understands what happened in the case, he feels for that family too. but to take the blame for

something he didn't do, that's not right. >> reporter: officers found him a few hours later, but he was in the passenger's seat. his girlfriend was driving. >> he had one of the finest prosecutors around trying to escape. but it was his decision to put this case on in the manner that he did. >> reporter: jurors say proof beyond a reasonable doubt simply was not there. >> we didn't have enough evidence to prove that he was driving. >> i know both of them and i wish i could bring them back. but it's over. the city of baltimore spoke. >> that mother also told us despite the verdict she is happy with the prosecution saying they did the best with what they had. reporting from the metro courthouse, mike hellgren. >> dunn has two children with the ex-girlfriend who testified

against him. this man is behind bars accused of disturbing crimes in a maryland wal-mart store. police say david dobbs three young girled at the store. they think he may have touched even more girls at other stores. detectives want any other possible victims to contact them. wild weather rips through the midwest, a tornado touches down in oklahoma. teresa garcia reports for wjz. it could be the worse of many severe storms over the weekend. >> this will likely be a familiar sound across much of the nation's midsection this weekend. the storm prediction center says severe weather is expected to develop in an area from north texas to south dakota. >> there will be two hot spots saturday and sunday. one of which is going to be oklahoma into kansas. the other is going to be nebraska and iowa. >> reporter: oklahoma got an early taste friday afternoon at these black clouds spawned a

tornado over the town of normand. property damage was reported where the funnel cloud touched down not far from the center. 2011 was a near record year for tornado, almost 1,700 twisters were reported. so far 2012 is proving active as well. this is only the second time such a strong warning has been issued this far in advance of the expected storms. >> we want to make certain that we do every effort to make sure that people receive those can act on those and can make themselves safe. >> in the midwest people are used to given the warnings another the last minute, now we're being given a warning

three days in advance. we're taking this serious. >> more than 300 people live within the warning zone of severe weather this weekend. from tornadoes to hurricanes, we will never see another hurricane irene. the storm that caused a lot of damage last year retired the name. irene killed 49 people and caused more than $15 billion in damage. the controversy is brewing at a popular baltimore bar. it's gotten so bad the owner says he's getting death threats. ale mary's is filled with relics. despite the threats he's received he says it's all in good fun. >> it's not like we're holding mass here. you know we're just a small tavern that selling good food

on by the windshield wipers while his partners followed behind. in south korea, dramatic protests after south korea's failed rocket launch. pictures of north korean leader kim jung ung. the u.s. responded by canceling food aid destined for that country. military officials say the bodies were discovered shortly after the man would have arrived for work. the victims were technicians at a communication stations. a local school was placed on lock down. the fbi says there's no evidence to suggest it is a murder suicide. the mayor of newark new jersey is being hailed as a hero for saving a neighbor.

the events broke out after he arrived home last night. >> reporter: cory booker sporting a bandaged left hand and recounting the moments he ran into a burning home to rescue a woman who was trapped inside. >> before i went to the kitchen when i saw how bad the flames were. i had to hope that there was another way out, that was when i had a conversation with god that i had never had before. >> reporter: one woman zena hodge who was trapped inside. he had to go through his security team before. >> i wasn't going to let him go in. >> finally i whipped around and we had some words and he relented i guess. i am a commanding officer at the end of the day.

>> reporter: kevin barnes ran in behind him. he saw the mayor risk his life for his family. back in 2006 he chased down an armed man suspected of robbing a bank near city hall. but booker says he doesn't feel like a hero. >> a firefighter does this every single day. i'm a neighbor who did what anybody neighbor would do. >> some are calling him super man man while others are asking him to run for president. people were running from their homes in this honolulu neighborhood after giant boulders started tumbling down a hillside. at least two homed suffered major damage. the largest boulder weighed 4-

tonight. it's been one tornado reported near normand, oklahoma but there's been showers reported as well. one to two feet in some of those regions. this cold air with the cold stream is dipping south ward and going to head in this direction. warm moisture coming out of the gulf of mexico. the two are going to combine over the area of nebraska. this whole region, a lot of people in that area very, very high risk of severe weather and tornadoes tomorrow. tomorrow night and into sunday. for us, clear weather, warming up as the winds here become southwest ahead of that system that really won't affect us that much expect it will bring us a thundershower late tomorrow night. there could be a shower as the warm air moves in. the best chances coming in tuesday night and wednesday. great weekend, warming up, slight chance of a shower,
