from the city to the counties to your neighborhood, now is complete coverage. it's wjz, maryland's news station. >> wicked weather. tornadoes tear through the plains. tonight, the danger zone expands. very dramatic video coming in tonight. good evening, and thank you for joining us. right now, the midwest is under the gun for more than a dozen possible tornadoes there. with wjz, the storms are on the move. >> have a large tornado now. >> reporter: it could be a high event affecting 5 1/2 million americans this weekend, from texas to minnesota. >> this is a multiday event,

now under way and potentially a very serious situation. >> reporter: the national weather service confirmed at least two tornadoes touched down in oklahoma. the damage could have been much worse. >> this is the fence right there. >> reporter: a twister touched down friday near the university of oklahoma. the damage was fairly minimal and only minor injuries were reported. forecasters urge people to be vigilant. >> make sure you have your plan, talk it over with your family. monitor the forecast constantly. have the radio handy and be ready to act. >> we had the closet ready, so we're a little bit ready for it just in case. >> reporter: it's been an unusually active tornado system so far. this march is the fourth deadliest on record. wjz eyewitness news. >> so the worst is yet to come.

bernadette woods in the first warning weather center. she's tracking the storms. i understand there's been an astronomical of tornadoes so far tonight. it's been an intense situation. this week with the package coming out, 88 reports now of tornadoes and they continue to come out. take a look at first warning doppler radar in many states. these aren't just severe storms. these are long tracked tornadoes that are deadly. over in nebraska and iowa, this storm itself has had reports of tornadoes. i want to show you this graphic. okay, that's not it. what we're looking at the prediction center that puts out risk every day. they have slight, moderate, and high risk areas. the high is the highest you can get. doesn't come out often, but it is out today.

case as high profile as this one. he's apologizing for it. wjz was there when 20 year old aaron parsons turned himself into police. >> this was an error at worst and -- >> reporter: before he went to authorities, parsons went to a local tv station for an interview. he said he's sorry for what got him arrested. this is par sops parsons. parsons grabbed something from the victim who shoved his hand away. moments later, parsons hits the man. >> what he did was child abuse of -- >> it didn't stop. kicked him more and stripped him of all his clothes and by standers do nothing but laugh. >> in the onset, we had nothing to go on, seriously like a

needle in a hay stack. wasn't until the video that we were able to get community intelligence. >> reporter: police are looking for at least three more suspects seen in these pictures. >> there are video tapes of them doing it. >> reporter: several people as far as california called police to identify parsons. party promotor and graduate where he played basketball. parsons held on one million dollars bond. >> one less fool out here. >> reporter: and parsons has a long list of charges including robbery and first-degree assault. they also plan to identify them with the help of the public, hopefully. weijia jiang, wjz eyewitness news. >> weijia, thanks so much. the victim is identified as the man from arlington, virginia.

among item stolen are a $1300 watch. a police officer accused of crashing his car on duty and drinking. he was drunk when he crashed his cruiser along u.s. 115. he left the scene and was found found in middletown. pierce has been suspended. vacation season around the corner. there's a warning from state highway workers. >> reporter: this is what many maryland drivers see this summer before hitting their favorite vacation spots. construction southern -- zone and some projects are already under way. >> the travel plans, people should expect this construction in spring, summer, and fall. >> reporter: troopers will be watching especially for driving in the work areas. >> just understand that in 2010, 496 lives were claimed on

maryland roadways. a majority of the crashes caught by speeding and distraction. >> reporter: many of the victims were construction workers. the state highway administration said drivers can track construction zones on their web site and find the best route around them. if they have to go through the construction areas, the warning is clear. >> slow down and pay attention. it's important they follow the speed limit and aren't distracted for safety. >> reporter: there's four projects. i'm gigi barnett, wjz eyewitness news. >> another construction project is causing some delays along the jfx. shut down through the 29 street bridge after holes found under the surface of the road. this week, for safety and then another couple of weeks. involved the current and construction zones of maryland. go to our web site, get the

>> the north baltimoreians had a few who earned medals. baltimore area teens take in life lessons from some pretty unique teachers. several u.s. navy seals spoke at the academy. before and after joining the navy, navy seals must pass a series of rigorous tests before being enlisted with several teenagers after the seminar. the cherry blossom parade, the annual event with singers bree osmond. people in the streets with marching band across the country perform and watch some big floats pass by. the parade celebrates cherry blossom tree as a gift to the u.s. from japan. still a lot more coming up on wjz eyewitness news tonight.

it is 11:15 at 6:00 -- 66 degrees in maryland right now. bernadette woods will have the forecast. in florida in publix, a 76 year old woman drove into the store going around 50 miles per hour. one woman pinned under the car, but the injuries are not life threatening. no word on the exact cause of the crash. a california man is very lucky to be alive today after he falls on a spike while picking avocados. you can see the rod actually sticking right outside of the man's back.

the accident happened when he was picking the avocados with his son. he slipped off the ledge and fell right on that stake. doctors say it just missed his major arteries and now recovering in the hospital. robin gibb is in the hospital with colon and liver cancer. could have a secondary tumor. soared popularity after the movie "saturday night fever" starring john tra volta. a 17 year old austin fisher will get his his diploma. doctors told her he had stage four breast cancer, and had jobs and racked up 16 unexcused

beautiful scenery. reaching out to middle school students next year and there's others who want to grab on to an oar. it's been 100 years this evening since the titanic struck an iceberg and sank to the bottom of the ocean. this is a look at that on the beneath. april 14, 1912 and then went under about three hours from now at 2:20 in the morning on april 15th. more than 1500 people died in that ship wreck. in maryland, there was a party honoring the event. people will have free costumes, even had a titanic making its way across the water there at the river. they recreated the dinner menu as well from the night the ship sank. i'd like to see that little titanic. >> the little titanic. it is so cute. i wonder how they have that.

a bunch of cruises going on and everything retracing the steps. >> we've had massive tornado outbreaks. >> it's a big one. not to be taken lightly. this is a situation where there are long-lived tornadoes that lost on the ground for a couple of miles. they are massive tornadoes, on top of that, and 88 reports already. this is just getting cranking. it's going to get through the night and then again tomorrow, little bit to the north and east. we're going to deal with the system but nothing like out there. this is a warm front associated with the storm, but the warm front is so far ahead of it, it's rain and maybe a thunderstorm is possible as it moves through tonight. as soon as this passes us tomorrow afternoon, it's going to bring even warmer air. we're going to get that in a moment, but all of that is light green for now.

to the west, some sprinkles and occasionally comes down harder. the storm will pass through. we'll sit and show you, we have a lot of sunshine with this going on and gives way to the clouds as the system approaches, now it's a little bit of rain. so, wind turning around to the south, bringing in that warmer air to 66 degrees outside and 11:00 tonight. okay. it's a warm night around the region. they top out at 76 degrees. this is the warm-up. we're going to try this again. 64 is the average high. we started off today in the 30s. we're not dropping much, but we go even higher because of the air to the southwest. it's moving in our direction. south of the storm is springing all of the tornadoes we were just talking about, and slowly but surely, the community

squeezes it into our direction and then by monday, we could be talking record highs around the region. here's the storm, here's the main area we see this outbreak. widespread tornadoes also in iowa. for us, it's a little bit of rain and thunderstorm or two. then we see sunshine tomorrow and it's not until monday or tuesday that we deal with the cold front part of it. there's a chance or two of a thunderstorm passing through, nothing like what we are seeing in the west. tonight, 58 degrees for the low and that's it. very warm one. tomorrow, take a look at these numbers. 83 for the high and by monday, 87 degrees and the chance for a thunderstorm monday night into tuesday. we cool down a little bit, but still very warm. adam? >> thank you, bern. coming up next in sports, the orioles win on the road. stan has the highlights up
