funnel fears, twisters tear through four states killing five people. tonight more warnings are issued. traumatic video of the damage. good evening everyone i'm adam may. 100 suspected tornadoes touch down. and even more severe weather threatens the states. >> reporter: the massive twisters tore through several states from oklahoma to iowa, ripping through homes and buildings. there are reports of more than 120 tornadoes across the midwest. storm chasers even caught this rare sight. >> two tornadoes. >> reporter: several people were killed including five inside this mobile home park. the storm ripped through this area in the middle of the night with little warning. >> it just hit so fast and so quick that nobody had a chance

to react to it. >> reporter: there is nothing much from sweens home. she was actually sleeping when the storm tore through the area. her daughter woke her up and took her to a safe place. the tornado came from this direction t as it tore through woodward, picking up homes, business and everything in its path. officials warmed about this system for days. high winds tore power to hundreds of residents. >> it's all the back wall, it's all down here. >> reporter: neighbors are now salvaging what they can and leveling what can't be saved. in woodward oklahoma, manuel gallegus. bernadette those nighttime tornadoes can be especially

dangerous can't they. >> they really are, you can't see them coming you just see some transformers in the distance and that's it. but you can hear it and hope flip a lot of people have a weather system to get them through the night. four tornado watches are in effect. you can see this extends all the way from the plains to the upper northwest. the irony in this one in minute -- minnesota has a tornado watch. the other side is going to turn into snow. we're seeing tornado watching from kansas up into iowa, up also into minnesota as we were just saying. we want to show you, we'll switch it over to the traffic. the primary is for today. you can see that red bulls eye from the west. that's for today. all of this shifts a little farther to the east for tonight. that is really where people need to be paying attention because if you fall asleep and you don't have your television on or something you need to be warned somehow.

outdoor warning systems don't really wake you up. that's what we're looking at. we will continue to follow the storm. >> stay with wjz for first warning weather to find forecast updates and live doppler radar at any time. we're tracking a developing story. a brush fire is burning in anne arundel county. an water edge is now contained but it's not completely out just yet. a building you can see here were damaged in the fire. it started in a marshy area behind the holiday point marina. a train derail over a baltimore overpass. take a look at the damage, a norfolk train carrying 24 cars derailed this morning, sending one car and the engine off the tracks. the train company says no hazardous materials were on board and no one was hurt. they're now working to clear

the tracks so that people can get through. lane closures are in effect, and wjz is live tonight. the real test is going to come tomorrow during the morning commute. >> reporter: this is the main artery downtown and those lanes are already closed. already there's one lane on 83 and already drivers know what that is going to mean for their morning commute. >> it's going to be awful. >> headache, confusion, chaos. there's going to be so much traffic. >> reporter: the lane closures were needed for emergency repairs. >> we know there's a void under there and if left uncheck that could become a sink hole and we don't want that to happen. >> reporter: many downtown

companies have already warned their employees to plan ahead. >> we have to wake up earlier, leave to work earlier. >> that's the only thing you can do, wake up earlier, leave earlier. >> mass transit is an option. it's convenient. >> reporter: to some drivers alternate routs still add up to a lot of lost time. >> i can get home in 10 minutes using the expressway, but if i have to go through the city it's going to take me 40 minutes. >> reporter: the tie ups painful but necessary. the lane closures could last for up to a month. >> reporter: all of this traffic here is going to have a ripple effect. the traffic here on 83 that means that the alternate routs are also going to see a lot of congestion. police are going to put some extra traffic officers there to try to help as much as they can.

then you get that call and you go. coming back is a feeling of elation you cannot describe. >> james adkins was also on hand for today's ceremony. hope is rising for a baltimore county church after a fast moving fire gutted out their building. gigi barnett reports how while the construction continued, they found another church. >> reporter: members of the church call this sanctuary a blessing. >> it's a blessing from the sky. the lord blessed us. >> reporter: it's temporary shelter after a fast moving fire ripped through their church days after easter services. this is the building now. and last week fire investigators ruled the blaze an arson. >> folks don't have any god in them. they just, they just go out and do anything. >> reporter: this sunday's service almost didn't happen. but another church shiloh baptist gave space to pleasant zion right in the nick of time.

>> you've come in these hard times dear lord. >> reporter: now that the church has some place to worship, the rebuilding begins. the pastor says that could take as long as five months. >> it'll be fixed up, bigger and better. the lord is able, we don't have to worry. god is in charge. >> reporter: tonight as fire investigators continue to look into the blaze. i'm gigi barnett, wjz news. >> the church has set up a donation fund to help rebuild. to find out how you can help donate go to wjz.com. baltimore police officers turn in their guns for some lacrosse states. several officers and some recruits hosted a training clinic at the police academy today. 150 students from the baltimore middle school lacrosse team soaked up proper techniques and team building skills. the commissioner says it's a great way for the kids to interact with officers.

the seize fire in syria shattered by shelling. officers were home today under orders of assad. assad accepted a truce deal thursday to end the violence with rebel forces. u.n. observers are hoping to stabilize the violence. you can see here the coast guard rescued three people from the water but four other crew members are still missing tonight. the coast guard responded to a similar accident last month

near that exact same spot. the occupy movement is now back up and running in new york. the group met up in central park for a spring awakening. organizers used the event as a jumping off point to generate new ideas. protesters say they are hoping to regroup after a winter full of evictions and clashes with police. >> people have kind of woken up and it's going to snowball through summer and into fall and continue on. >> occupy wall street began in sect targeting corporate greed and inequality. unique ways to remember the titanic, some passengers on board the balmorel paused to remember the sinking of the titanic. then the crew tossed wreaths into the ocean.

the titanic struck an iceburg back in 1912. he was known for his hard hitting investigative type of reporting. the hour long special will revisit some of his most controversial interviews and expose the inner wall few people have ever seen. you can catch that special on 60 minutes, right after this newscast on abc13. >> it'll be a good one. >> it should be very good. what an amazing guy on 60 minutes. you've been tracking wild weather, storms, possible snow up in minnesota then we're talking record highs. >> you know when you're talking record highs, there's something going on. we're on the warm side of it so it's pumping incredible warmth all day. it got up to 86 today. >> and tomorrow should be -- >> upper 80s. someone may see 82 degrees. >> we don't even have the

mid-80s today for most of us. could be even -- >> our record was 88 degrees. we got to 86. >> at the airport. >> yes, at the airport. record tomorrow is 90 degrees. we're forecasting a high of 88 degrees. >> we're going to be knocking on the door of that record. >> we had a front move through, lifted off to our north and a rush of warm air has followed. southerly wind following that warmer air. we're sitting at 72 degrees. look at those 80s at the mountain. our water temperatures are in the upper 50s, closer to 60 degrees. but as soon as you get back

kicking in, that drops that temperature pretty quickly. inland look at what we're experiencing. 86 as we said is our high for today. 88 the record. our average it's still climbing but it's only 65 degrees. now take a look at the country here, there's some really cold air coming in behind that storm system. that's why we were talking about snow in minnesota with the threat of tornadoes on if southern part of that -- on the souther part of that state. that's how much of a contrast that's creating. we're on the warm side of the storm through tomorrow with temperatures even higher. we will cool down later on this week. but nothing all that drastic as we're seeing out to the west. it's all because of this storm system right in here. we had severe weather yesterday. numerous reports, over 232 reports of tornadoes just yesterday. there's a new round breaking out. it will weaken significantly by it gets to us so we're just talking about a chance for a shower or thunderstorms. we really do need that rain.

that chance would be monday night into tuesday with the front coming through. then there's another much weaker storm that's going to pass to our south on wednesday. could clip maryland with a few showers and clouds but that's about it. but a third storm is coming our way earlier in the week. that's going to change our weather pattern into next weekend. out on the waters with the winds up out of the south. small craft advisories still in effect by next monday. a crazy warm night out there. only dropping down to 63 degrees. that's close to our average highs this time of year. tomorrow we're forecasting a high of 83 degrees. our record is 90. we will be close and it's possible that someone will see 93 degrees. i know if you park your car on the black top you will see that tomorrow. we're starting to cool down with that front coming through. on wednesday that front passes through. by thursday we're going to be watching for that next storm to
