boy. sean johnson was siting on the porch with friends. it is a story wjz has been following for almost a year. >> this case shook the city to its core. >> reporter: the murder of sean johnson in may of last year, sent shock waves across the city. the 12-year-old was gunned down on a porch in the lake clifton home, as he watched the nba play-offs with his friends. wjz investigated the murder of the 7th grade honor student, which went unsolved, with no witnesses coming forward, for almost a year. but now, police say multiple witnesses have identified three men as the attackers. 29-year-old donye robinson. 21-year-old antoine mosely, and 18-year-old derek brown, are charged with sean johnson's murder. court records show donye robinson served time in prison for attempted first-degree murder. >> detectives identified individuals based on witness accounts. we've got concerns for the safety of witnesses at this point. so their identities are being concealed. >> reporter: court documents don't reveal a motive for sean and his friends, only that

phone records were used to back witness accounts. >> reporter: just months ago, a wjz investigation revealed that the murder of sean johnson was a tragic case of mistaken identity. >> reporter: at the time, police told neighbors a gang targeting someone else just two streets away, shot shown and his friends instead. we spoke exclusively with sean's mother. >> they said they were looking for other people that were in the neighborhood. and they thought that there that was them. and they started firing. >> they got the wrong people? >> yeah. >> reporter: sean's mother says witness intimidation and stop snitching culture stopped people coming from forward. fred bealefeld, told me he agreed. >> people know exactly who pulled the trigger. >> reporter: others had minor drug possession on their record. others face attempted assault for the shooting of sean's friends that night. officers say the speeding suspect ran a red light and crashed into another car,

killing 22-year-old jordasha rollins and injuring her child. we're following this case closely. and coming up in about 10 minutes, wjz speaks exclusively with the mother behind the wheel at the time of the crash. a prostitution scandal continues to rock the secret service. tonight, a former agent who is running for senate in maryland, calls the incident a national embarrassment. wjz is live. adam may speaks to that agent today and has the latest in this misconduct investigation. derek? >> yeah, kai. this scandal is definitely growing more and more salacious today. and it's also growing closer to home. >> i have a real leadership resume. >> dan bungino is a former secret service agent, running as republican for senate. >> i would have given my life to president obama in a heartbeat. like that. >> reporter: during his service, he got to know many agents. and that includes several men at a prostitution -- prostitution scandal. investigators are now

questioning as many as 20 women, invited to this columbia hotel for sex. 11 secret service members, including two supervisors and members of an elite counter- assault team, are under investigation. >> i know this was a large group of guys that made this mistake. again, vipersonal relationships with some of them. one of them happens to be a family member who is assisting in the investigation. so adam, this is a very -- this is not indicative of the behavior i saw when i was in the secret service at all. >> reporter: according to the pentagon, at least 10 members from members from branch of the military may also be involved. the misconduct took place carta henna, before president obama arrived for the summit of the americas last weekend. he predicts a major fallout. >> i think there will be pretty drastic changes, no doubt about it. >> reporter: in that draft, he said a family member is assisting in that investigation. a few moments ago, we found out that family member is dan bongino's brother. his brother is a secret service

agent and was in columbia at the time of the incident. bongino was telling outlets moments ago that his brother is not accused of any wrongdoing. reporting live, adam may, wjz eyewitness news. >> now, despite the incident, white house officials say they're still confident in the secret service. charges are dropped against a howard county man accused of killing his twin brother. vic is in the newsroom with more on the prosecutor's decision. >> reporter: prosecutors will not pursue another trial for wailla lee, after a mistrial was declared last month. the 24-year-old had an emotional reunion with family. he was accused of murdering his twin brother who was found dead on a pathway in columbia in 2007. a cold case investigation led police to arrest wail in september 2011. his first trial ended in a mistrial last month. prosecutors say they won't pursue another trial because they don't think they would win. mary, back to you. >> vic, thank you. the maryland state's attorney's

office says it spoke with jurors before it dropped the charges. let's take a live look at sky eye chopper 13. the backup continues as emergency construction continues. derek valcourt is live along the expressway, with more on the solutions drivers are finding to deal with the traffic. derek? >> reporter: kai, this traffic is just really slowed down within the last five or 10 minutes here. that speaks to the volume of cars getting on during this rush hour right now. it's another long drive home on this major artery in the downtown. >> reporter: tuesday morning rush hour traffic, along the jones falls expressway. the vehicles moving faster than they did on monday. and there were fewer of them on the jfx. transportation officials know -- >> that's where the closures are. starting on radio and camera 24. >> because they're monitoring conditions from their operation center downtown. keeping a close eye on what they say was a major improvement over monday

morning. >> 100% better. like you can roll a bowling ball down there this morning. >> city officials attribute that improvement to more people using one of the nine suggested routes. >> reporter: some of the folks are choosing the mta as their best bet for avoiding the jfx. >> reporter: in fact, though early numbers aren't in yet, mta officials expect to see an increase in rider ship. >> i live in owings mills. so on days i don't have to have my car, i'm going to take the subway. >> if you can park and ride, park and ride. you know? as state employees, we get to use our pass. >> reporter: but the delays aren't over. the left lane, both north and south, will stay closed over the next six to eight weeks, while the city repairs crushed underground pipes they fear could create a dangerous sinkhole on the highway. officials insist the smoothness of rush hour all depends on drivers. >> all it takes is one accident. and it will delay and con cause congestion and bottlenecking

throughout that whole intersection. we want people to be courteous to one another. >> reporter: and we can tell you that traffic officers are going to be positioned along some of those alternate routes. to sort of expedite the move of traffic and the commuters out of the city. meanwhile, we can tell you, the construction hasn't even begun if you're on 83 just yet. we're live, derek valcourt, wjz eyewitness news. >> derek, thank you. kristy breslin will update the delays from wjz traffic control, coming up in a few minutes. president obama says he is taking steps to combat high gas prices at the white house today. he called for determine staff to supervise the oil markets and higher penalties for price manipulation. the plan is intended to protect american consumers and comes as republicans criticize his energy policies. meanwhile, the price at the pump has dropped a little bit in recent days. but we are still paying $3.96 for a gallon of regular. that is 9 cents higher than we

were paying just one month ago. the final flight of the space shuttle discovery passes over maryland and stops people in their tracks. alex demetrick reports, with a look back by flying by. >> reporter: just after sunrise in cape canaveral, florida, the space shuttle discovery climbs skyward for the final time. bolted to the back of a 747 jumbo jet. its destination, the smithsonian air and space annex near dulles airport. for much of the trip, other craft had a better view. >> 747, passing over top, just to your left now, if you want to look out your window. >> reporter: but around the national harbor in prince george's county, people gathered for discovery's descent. but it flew over early. >> i was kind of upset because they were early. i was supposed to be down here between 10:00 to 11:00. so as i was pulling up to the beltway, we saw it. so we pulled over. >> reporter: it turned into an impromptu grandstand. >> it was on the side of the highway. it was really great.

>> i caught it. when it was just going over the bridge. and i'm driving. i gotta stop. so i just pulled over to the side of the road. didn't care whether anybody hit me or not. and i snapped the picture. so i did get a picture of it. oh, my gosh. i'm so excited. >> reporter: that excitement was echoed a few moments later, as discovery was flown low over the national mall. first launched in 1984, it went into space, 39 times. it carried the hubble space telescope. and former astronaut john glenn. retired from space, it will go on exhibit at the smith sonian. but it has already made an impression on the capital beltway. >> this is cool to be part of something that is happening in our history. >> yes. i gotta get my hallelujah shower. oh, my god. >> reporter: alex demetrick, wjz eyewitness news. >> besides discovery, the other retired shuttles will go on display in new york, los angeles, and the kennedy space center in florida. it is another day with above-normal temperatures. outside right now, it is dry with a mix of sun and clouds. let's check in with

meteorologist bernadette woods and bob turk for an update on our conditions. we'll start with bob. very pleasant afternoon. take a look at temperatures right now, compared to yesterday. it's a lot cooler. but still well above normal. 75 now. still at 80 in ocean city. coolest spot out in oakland at 50. there it goes. just up to 60 degrees there. d.c. at 74. but these temperatures right now are 13 degrees -- yes, 13 degrees cooler than yesterday. cumber landing, 22 degrees cooler. and ocean city, 10 degrees warmer than yesterday because they had winds offer the ocean there. yesterday. bernadette woods a look at what is on radar, which is not much. and what we may get later tomorrow. bernadette? >> well, the dry weather continues, as we have been talking about the past couple of weeks, it's been beautiful but dry. want to show you first warning doppler radar. just a couple of showers to the west. maybe a sprinkle. that's about it. but when it comes to the south, there's a lot more where that came from. for tomorrow, what we're

heartbreak and anger tonight, from a baltimore family. a mother is killed by a speeding car. and detectives say the driver was trying to elude police.

wjz is live at city police headquarters. weijia jiang has more on what caused the crash. weijia? >> reporter: kai, the victim's mother, who is behind the wheel, is sharing her story tonight, exclusively with wjz. she says she is still in shock, after losing her daughter, who is also her best friend. >> my soul is hurting. my baby girl is gone. my firstborn. i brought her in this world. and i watched my daughter die. [ crying ] >> reporter: despite being surrounded by friends and family, 39-year-old yomanda williams is inconsolable. her daughter, 22-year-old jordasha rollins died by her side, in a horrific crash. >> she looked like a crushed box. but it was three lives in there. >> reporter: rollins' 11-month- old baby was all also in the car. rollins was driving home after a quick trip for food when a

vehicle smashed into them. investigators say officers were trying to pull that driver over when they lost him. >> he ran through an intersection. ran through a red light. >> reporter: williams has harsh words for police. she believes they were chasing the suspect, which is against department policy. >> that's why i got to bury my daughter. in a couple of days. [ crying ] because they were not following their own rules. >> there were initial reports that this was a police chase. i personally listened to the radio broadcast, the kga broadcast of the officer, this was not a police chase. it happened very, very quickly. >> reporter: detectives continued to piece together what happened, as williams recovers at the hospital from a broken arm and injuries to her eye. though she says the greatest pain is in her heart. >> reporter: the driver. other car is also in the hospital. and he will be charged once he is released for the crash. and also, for possessing nearly a dozen pieces of crack cocaine. reporting live at police

headquarters, weijia jiang, wjz eyewitness news. >> there is some good news to report. the baby and williams are expected to be released from the hospital, sometime this week. if you're waiting for something to -- someone to get home from work, let's check in on the roads now with kristy breslin, wjz traffic control. let's update you on the jones falls expressway. sky eye chopper 13 is over the scene right now. as you can see, we're looking at quite a backup. the worst of the backup now is heading out of downtown, past north avenue. and then things do get a little bit lighter from that point on. but you can expect at least a 20-minute delay. as far as the rest of the region goes, traveling on northbound 95, some slowing there from 32 to 175. north side inner loop, stop and go there, from york road to harford road. north side inner loop, expect another 20 minutes there. west side outer loop, also congestion in that section. that's 795 to liberty road. average speed only 30 miles an hour.

was on the run, near pikesville. weis posted signs in stevenson village, and all along hillside, where rosie had been spotted. >> i started to believe someone actually picked her up. >> that was until the hapless habban ease was captured on camera, 3:00 a.m. outside a convent. >> i get a phone call from tim, who works with the sisters of notre dame. i think i saw your dog. she was on our surveillance tape. >> reporter: when the sisters heard rosie was somewhere on $property, they prayed to st. anthony, patron saint of lost things and st. frances, the patron saint of animals for her safe return. >> to have this kind of happen here, was a very natural response of the sisters to want to pray that rosie would be found and that her owners would be reunited with her. >> reporter: it worked. with the help of a mcdonald's

hamburger, rosie was lured into a crate and saturday night, was reunited with her owner jill. >> my husband and i want to give you a contribution, a reward for helping us find rosie. >> reporter: the sisters say rosie is always welat the convent. >> if rosie decided to join, she would be well loved. >> reporter: jill says rosie isn't going anywhere any time soon. she has already had the fence put up around her home. and rosie is equipped with a gps monitoring device. in baltimore county, i'm jessica kartalija, wjz eyewitness news. and rosie's owners even called in a bloodhound service to search for her. and they posted her information on a website that makes robo calls for lost dogs. maybe rosie just had a calling for the sisterhood. >> could be. >> you never know. that's so cute. let's take a look at the weather's cooldown. a little closer to normal. but still way above average. by almost 10 degrees. 75 now. and it's still very dry.

of course, we're at 90 degrees. right now, we're in the mid- 70s. still very, very pleasant. but still, that's running 10 degrees above average. keep that in mind. still 80. ocean city came in last hour at 80. they will be dropping 60 out in oakland. 67 in cumberland. yesterday, at this hour, cumberland was around 90, 91 degrees. yeah. 74 in d.c. the dew points still low. very dry air once again. and locally, temperatures in the very pleasant, 70 to the mid-70s around the area. with -- still got a bit of a breeze. so we have a breeze. you have sun and very dry conditions once again. all the woodlands, the fields, the brush is very dry. please be very careful. outside. with any materials. cookouts, cigarette butts, use your ash trays, please. that's how these fires get started. northwest winds in the area. that brought the cooler air in today. and looks like we'll start to see a bit of a shift more maybe

to the northeast. at least for a time tomorrow. that may bring in cooler air and eventually maybe a little light rain or drizzle from a system down to the south. this frontal system that came through the area, with a new air mass that ask over -- is over us now. stalling out to the south. some of that moisture may be riding northward. probably most of it stops at virginia. but we might see it tomorrow afternoon late and tomorrow evening. not a great chance. but we'll leave it in the forecast. should be rather overcast. yes, it's going to be cooler tomorrow. another chance of rain, a much better chance, however, at least based on all of the models. once this low passes to the south later tomorrow, with that slight chance of rain. this high moves off the east coast. a bit of a warmup thursday and friday. over the weekend, looks like it's going to stall out. another area of low pressure, hopefully will give us maybe a decent batch of rain. late saturday and again sunday, with cooler temps. maybe even decent rain if it slows down. that's what we're hoping for. that's what we need. winds on the bay tomorrow.

the marymount problems with the grand prix. wjz is live at the inner harbor. mike schuh speaks to the mayor about the issues with this year's race. mike? >> reporter: well, the city actually demanded some help. it was indy car that actually recommended this promoter to the city to make this year's race happen. now, there are problems with that promoter. and the city basically said, indy car, you need to fix the problem. >> reporter: in the final weeks, daily dylan was brought up to tie up loose ends. he's credited with saving the race. >> the city of baltimore looked absolutely beautiful last year. and i think that we are very proud to be here. >> reporter: when the city needed a new promotion after the failure of the first, indy car recommended daily dylan. >> that was dylan just eight weeks ago, in baltimore for a press event. but now his company is spinning its wheels. deadlines are being missed. there's no title sponsor.

around 9:15 sunday night, carroll faces several charges he is being released on bail. a jury hears testimony from the admitted mastermind from the plot to bomb the new york city subway system. denise has more on the terror trial, under way in manhattan now. denise? >> reporter: prosecutors say the would-be bombers came dangerously close to carrying out the subway attack in 2009. today, one of the alleged conspirators took the witness stand in an attempt to lessen his punishment. he told a federal jury that he and two male friends made an oath to leave their new york city neighborhood and fight alongside the taliban. testimony comes as the trial for adis madujanin who has pled not guilty to conspiracy to sell weapons of mass destruction. >> prosecutors say the terrorists were prepared to kill themselves and everyone around them with suicide bomb vests. he said he would kill them all over again. today, the trial for a norwegian man who went on a

killing spree resumes. anders bravic is testifying -- breivik is testifying he acted out of goodness, not evil. >> reporter: a bunch of cameras snapped photos of anders breivik. the confessed killer took the stand in an oslo courtroom, to defend his bombing and shooting rampage in norway last july. he called it the most sophisticated and spectacular political attack, committed in europe since world war ii. breivik's testimony was not televised in an effort to stop the 33-year-old from using the trial to promote his extremist views. >> reporter: he has five days to explain why he set off a bomb at a government building in oslo, then gunned down dozens of teenagers at a political summer camp. breivik compared them to the youth of hitler. some who survived the attack

are refusing to attend the trial. >> to me, we should just forget him. you have to remember what happened. but i want to forget him. >> reporter: others want justice. >> i hope these courts will be able to punish him. >> reporter: breivik cried in court monday when prosecutors played an anti-muslim film he posted online before the attacks. he said he was sad, thinking about how his country is dying. judges must decide whether breivik is guilty or insane. breivik has said being labeled "insane" would be a fate worse than death. tina kraus, wjz eyewitness news. >> breivik faces a maximum 21- year sentence if found guilty. the court dismissed one civilian judge in -- juror in the trial because he posted on facebook that breivik deserved the death penalty. two americans killed aboard the costa concordia, months after the cruise ship ran aground off the coast of italy. the bodies of barbara and

george heal were pulled off. he now faces a number of charges, including manslaughter and abandoning ship before all of the passengers were evacuated. we have breaking news, concerning the health of one of the world's richest men. investor warren buffett says he's been diagnosed with prostate cancer. in a statement to shareholders, buffet says the cancer is not life-threatening or debilitating. it was discovered during a routine test. the 81-year-old says he'll begin a two-month treatment plan in july. a breakthrough for a treatment plan. that's what they're calling the new proton treatment center in baltimore. wjz's monique griego is there for the groundbreaking. digging up hope for cancer patients. >> it represents victory. it represents courage. it represents healing. >> reporter: cancer survivor, pat tierney was there, as

governor martin o'malley, and the mayor, help the university of maryland kick off the construction of its soon to be proton treatment center. >> this is very exciting. because it's such unique technology remember. >> reporter: the center, which will fill these empty lots off west baltimore streets, will focus on proton therapy, an advanced technology that allows patients to receive doses of radiation, directly to their tumors, without damaging the surrounding tissues or vital organs. >> there's nothing greater than the hope that comes from knowing that they have every available option. >> reporter: once it's up and running, this new center will be one of only 12 places in the nation, offering this type of treatment. >> we expect patients to be coming here with this very specialized treatment. >> reporter: the proton center will be an expansion of the university's biopark. and is expected to bring hundreds of temporary construction jobs and eventually permanent positions to the city. >> the activity will be significant. >> but for cancer survivors

here's bob. >> certainly not going to break their job. there is pretty good news, we think, coming for the weekend. we've got a chance of some rain coming in late saturday. and a better chance sunday. might be cooler than that. slight chance of a shower, as you mentioned, wednesday evening. 69 on thursday. mid70s on friday. and cooling down the weekend, with more clouds. and yes, maybe decent rain here by late saturday and again on sunday. mary? >> all right, bob. thank you. in today's wjz healthwatch. most of you are familiar with a colonoscopy as a tool doctors use to detect colon cancer. but there is also a less invasive procedure that doctors can use. it is called a sigmoid oscopy. it only looks at the lower part of the colon. doctors use a thin, flexible hollow tube, to look for polyps. small amounts of air are puffed into the colon to let the doctors see into the colon clearly. the exam usually takes only 10

minutes. and patients do not need medicine. patients have this procedure once every five years. once you are over age of 50, depending on your personal risk of colon cancer. as virginia tech marks the anniversary of a shooting spree, the victims' families are joining the campaign for better information systems on college campuses. >> to lose a child is the most heartwrenching thing you can ever go through. >> reporter: her son, michael jr., was shot just a month before his graduation. >> we want him every day. >> reporter: clutching the hands of another new jersey mother who lost her daughter that day, teresa poly and her husband came to support senator robert menendez' legislation. it would increase fines against universities that fail to warn students of an emergency on campus in a timely manner by taking away 10% of the federal they get from the government.

it is named after poly's son. >> seung-hui cho killed two people. two hours later, he went on a shooting spree across campus that left 30 others dead. parents say they waited two hours before alerting students that a gunman was on the loose. >> my child would not number the front row of the advanced hydrology class that she was in when that mad man walked in with a gun and just started shooting. >> our goal is to have campuses and universities and colleges across the country have a clearly-defined program and one that is executed to save lives. >> we have one more going to college in the fall. and we're scared to death. and we're just praying it will be okay. because i can't imagine losing another child. >> reporter: more of a reason the police say to fight for the passage of the bill. >> reporter: the bill would allow for a university found in violation to be fined up to 10% of the federal funding it

received the prior year. now, that's excluding money for student aid. a hit-and-run driver sparks a gas explosion in california. a security camera shows the car launching into reverse and breaking into a door off the post. then you can see the car, as it smashes into the pump and bursts into flames. the driver bailed out of the car's passenger door. police tracked him down when he went to the hospital for a gash on his ankle. he has apologized. he had a beer sometime before the incident. no charges have been filed. illinois lottery officials say the third and final mega millions winner is ready to come forward. that person plans to go public tomorrow. he or she played a quick pick in the southern illinois farming community and will receive a check for $218 million. 600,000. now, two other anonymous winners in kansas and here in maryland, have already claimed their prizes. the maryland winners are three unidentified educators. check in with eyewitness news at 6:00. for these sorries and more, coming up, vic is standing by
