investigation. the scandal and investigation into alleged misconduct has widened. we report agents were partying at a strip club in south america less than 48 hours before president obama's arrival friday, april 13th. >> guests had to be signed in. >> reporter: 21 people responsible for the president's security are accused of soliciting prostitutes in colombia, south america. those include 11 secret service agents and ten members of the u.s. military. now republicans senator susan collins wants to know if what happened is isolated or cultural behavior. >> i am worried that this is the only time that they were caught. >> reporter: wjz learned a former agent from maryland says his brother, a current agent, was in colombia, south america when the scandal broke. dan is a republican from the parks running for the u.s. senate in maryland. he says his brother is not accused of anything involving prostitution. >> i have personal

the crash. >> reporter: family members say she was on a quick trip to wal- mart with her mother and infant daughter. that ride turned tragic. the balloons were supposed to celebrate her daughter's first birthday, now they mark the spot where 22-year-old rollings died. >> she's 22. >> reporter: her mother behind the wheel when their car was smashed by a suspect fleeing police near north avenue in popular grove. >> i watched my daughter die. do you know what that's like? >> reporter: she was trapped in the passenger's seat, her 11 month old daughter injured in the back seat. the suspect who hit them, identified by our media partner baltimore sun as charles jeffreys. police say they first tried to pull jeffreys over as he was speeding right here object parkway. but he refused to stop. he reason a red light and hit the women, then got out of the car and ran, but police caught him.

>> at least they got him. i hope justice will be certained. >> reporter: officials assist officers did not chase jeffreys. >> i personally listened to the radio broadcast, the broadcast of the officer, that was not a police chase. it happened very quickly. >> reporter: family members are skeptical. >> that's why i got to bury my daughter in a couple of days. because they're not following their own rules. >> reporter: now they want answers about why she will never see her daughter turn one. and police say they did find narcotics on the suspect, charles jeffreys. they are right now working with the prosecutor's office to determine what charges will be filed against him. live at police headquarters, wjz eyewitness news. >> the girl suffered nonlife- threatening injuries. horrible accident, man gets his leg trapped in a dime machine. it happened at the grant county

company. the man had to be sedated annuity baited so fire and rescue could free him without pain. the rescue took about an hour and a half, tonight he is at the trauma unit. study fuels new debate over the safety of using helicopters to transport injured patients. researchers find people hurt are 16% more likely to survive if they're taken to the hospital by helicopter rather than by ground ambulance. but the use of chopper's has been criticized by those that say the risk of crashing makes it more dangerous for patients. three arrests in the death of a 12-year-old just short of the year when the boy was killed. mary explains how police tracked down the alleged attacker. >> this case shook the city to its core. >> reporter: the murder of shawn johnson in may sent shock waves across the city. he was gunned down on the front porch of a home as he watched the nba playoffs with his

friends. we investigated the murder of the seventh grade honor student which went unsolved for almost a year. but now, police say multiple witnesses have identified three men as the attackers. 29-year-old donia robinson, antonin anamosaly and darin brown are charged. robinson served time in prison for attempted first-degree murder. >> detectives identified the individuals based on witness accounts. we've got some concerns for the safety of those witnesses at this point. so their identities are being sealed. >> reporter: there's no motive for the shooting, only that phone lords were used to back witness accounts. just months ago, investigation revealed that the murder of sean johnson was a tragic case of mistaken identity. at the time, police told neighbors a gang targeting somebody else just two streets away shot him and his friends

instead. we spoke exclusively with the mother. >> they were looking for other people. >> reporter: they got wrong people. the two other suspects had minor drug possession charges in their criminal records. wjz, eyewitness news. >> all three also face other charges of attempted murder. bad grade from scientists who say unusual weather worsened itself. in the report card drawn up by the university of maryland it went from a c minus to a d plus. that's the second decline in two years. dry, hot summer and two tropical storms made the water murky and polluted. the eagle has landed. the space shuttle discovery completed its final flight and is now going to take up residence at the smithsonian. it stopped people in their tracks today.

in maryland right now. complete forecast is coming up. dry conditions and strong winds are feeding another major brush fire on long island. 30 fire departments responded and several homes had to be evacuated. rail service was suspended for most of the afternoon. long island is in the middle of its worse draught since 1999. a disabled driver in a stolen vehicle leads police in houston on a wild chase. they say the man used a crutch to help steer the car. he drove through the downtown area despite having two tires blown out. when police surrounded the vehicle, the driver rammed a cruiser. officers jumped out and took him into custody. chilling words from the man on trial for the worst mass killing. breivik admits to killing 77 people in a bombing and shooting spree last summer. today in court, he said he would do it again. the far right militant gave a rambling address and called his attacks fast dated and --

sophisticated and spectacular. breivik is claiming self- defense and wants to avoid an insanity ruling. kindergartener is georgia is handcuffed and removed from school by police. they say the girl was uncontrollable and was throwing books and toys. the officers say they used the handcuffs for safety reasons. the girl's parents believe they should have been conduct contacted before the police is called. the child is suspended until the fall. billionaire businessman warren buffett has been diagnosed with prostate company. the 81-year-old said the disease was caught in its early stages. it was discovered through a routine screening. he will begin treatment in july. he is known for his no nonsense approach for investings and is the third richest person in the world. grand prix is in question.

internal problems, mike explains now those issues could put the brakes on this summer's race weekend. >> reporter: in the final weeks before the first race, businessman dale dylan was brought in to tie up with loose ends. he's credited with saving the race. >> was city of baltimore was beautiful last year, and i think we were very proud to be here. >> reporter: when the city needed a new promoter after the financial failure of the first, they recommended dale dylan >> to give them the confidence level that the event's going to happen. >> reporter: that was him eight weeks ago in baltimore for a press event. but now his company is spinning its wheels, deadlines are missed, no title sponsor and tickets are not for sale. >> when deadlines are missed, we reach out and want it to be on track. >> reporter: the city told them to fix the problem. >> i'm convinced with inn i did stepping up, this will be a showcase event. >> reporter: they have stepped up by promises stable leadership and a title sponsor.

but a local expert whose put on big events himself says time has really run out. >> it's going to be hard to pull off at this point. >> reporter: jeff dudley raised the money to build the stadium and organizes major local lacrosse tournaments. >> i don't know if they have their website up and running, i don't know if they have their systems in place to deliver and fulfill the tickets. >> some people say boy, they're wishing for it to happen. it's getting so close, they don't think it will, do you think it's going to happen? >> you know, i'm used to the nay sayers. but we heard that same story last year and it turned out to be a beautiful, beautiful weekend. >> not a nay sayer. i believe that this type of project, there's enough believers who would want to do it. >> reporter: except for the finances, this was perhaps the most successful race of their year last year. they really, really want it to happen again this year. the city can't say if they have a drop dead deadline for one they would have to cancel the

race. reporting downtown, back to you on tv hill. >> it is scheduled for labor day weekend, the same time as last year's inaugural running. five story building in san diego is shaken by a man-made earthquake. it's all part of a $5 million experiment. the building withstood the quake because the cylinders at its base act as shock absorbers. the new technology is being considered for hospitals. the engineers say the building swayed only six inches during the simulated 8.8 magnitude quake. that would be quite an eric. >> yeah also there were bridges too. >> that is extremely strong earthquake. amazing stuff. all right, let's look at the weather. cooler day today, but still very, very pleasant. look at temperatures right now. we had cooled a little bit more, 57, that's our low for the day.

no wind at all, humidity's still quite low and the dew point's low. barometer's back up. pressure building up to the north, unfortunately, that high pressure may keep some well- needed rain to the south of us from getting further north and maybe the baltimore-washington area if it weakens we might see rain. 49 in oakland, 64 in washington, 60 ocean city. locally temperatures have dropped back into the more comfortable 50 to low 60 ranges to the north of us now, 58 in bell air and columbia, 57. 78, 57, average high is only 65 and average is always 43. we're not going to get that cool tonight. the record again in 2002, the second day in a row, 93 degrees. the whole east was hot that day by the way. 26 in 1962, record low. right now light winds in the area. more north and northeast. that might bring in some

moisture off the ocean with and there's moisture heading in from the south and southwest. it's raining in portions of virginia. we to want get some of the rain, in fact one of the models is getting as much as a quarter inch of rain. that's not a lot, but it's a lot more than we've seen the entire month, about three times as much. this rain has caused portions of the appalachians. once again, it's running into this high pressure, it's kind of putting a block on it. a lot of it is just drying up. right now in the southwest virginia, nice batch of rain. if it continues to move at least toward our area, we might see rain or dress billion showers tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow night. that would be very welcomed just to keep things a little moist. low moves off eventually, get dried out, but thursday and friday, but over the weekend, another front and another area of low pressure expected to develop. has a better chance we think of getting us maybe some rain. saturday night and much of

scientists come up with a prehistoric find. they say these formations are dinosaur eggs. they were laid 60 million years ago by plant-eating dinosaurs. they range from a few inches to over three feet. of course that's one big baby. well it was an adorable baby doing an adorable thing at the bronx zoo. look at this female baby giraffe was running around chasing a butterfly. zoo keepers say the calf was nuzzling with her mother when the butterfly caught her attention. the giraffe and butterfly turned out to be a hit. turned out to be a hit. aren't they ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
