good morning, thanks for joining us. i'm michelle miller. amid growing concerns about security and the president's safety, an independent government investigator is look into the scandal that's rocked the secret service. we know now at least 20 women had been in the hotel room of the agents and military personnel prior to president obama's visit. susan mcginnis has the latest from washington. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the men involved are apparently telling different stories about who these women are. the women involved are now being interviewed by investigators. and the biggest concern here in washington is whether or not there is a culture of this type of behavior. the secret service prostitution scandal widens further. as senator briefed about the investigation, about 20 women were paid to go to hotel rooms in cartagena with u.s. military and security personnel. >> guests had to be signed in by the person renting the room. and, thus, we have the name of the women involved and were able

to determine accounts. >> reporter: sources tell cbs news, members of the secret service and military partied at a strip club in colombia before president obama's arrival. 11 secret service members, including two supervisors, are on administrative leave pending its investigation, and the pentagon is questioning ten member of the military about their involvement. senator collins wants to know if last week's alleged misconduct is an isolated incident. >> it's hard for me to believe this is the only time this has ever happened. i am worried that this is the only time that they were caught. >> reporter: a white house spokesman says the president won't speculate about whether there's a pattern of inappropriate behavior. the administration says there are no plans to fire the director of the secret service. >> the president has confidence, in director sullivan. the director acted swiftly in response to this incident. >> reporter: the agents involved

were sent home after alleged argument between one member and prostitution about payment. they say sensitive information about the president's schedule was never compromised. the mayor of cartagena has been wondering what all the fuss is about with prostitution legal and common there. he does, though, say he understands the national security implications. michelle? thank you. on capitol hill today a hearing into a spending scandal involving the general services administration resumes. the excessive spending habits have sparked outrage and disbelief. we learned yesterday the travel and over the top spending continued even though an inspector general warned agency officials to stop. danielle nottingham reports. >> reporter: the general services administration took another public beating from congress. as lawmakers tried to understand the latest accusations of wasteful and excessive spending. >> 44 bucks for breakfast. i'm a big man. i can't spend 44 bucks for breakfast.

somebody had to say that. are you kidding me? >> reporter: the man at the center of the skajtdz is jeffrey neely, who took the fifth during monday's questioning and did not appear on tuesday. neely is accused of taking five trips, totalling more than six weeks at taxpayers' expense. this conference in las vegas cost americans more than $800,000. and he made more than eight trips to plan the event. robert peck was fired from the gsa. he says he raised questions about the expensive trip. >> much of the expense at the hotel was unacceptable. >> reporter: neely is on administrative leave. his boss, former gsa administrator, martha johnson, resigned earlier this month, almost a year after an initial report from the inspector general. >> i can only say that i took it so seriously, i gave up my public service career. >> reporter: california

congressman jeff denham says the days of slush funds and lavish trips are over. >> where crimes have been committed, people will go to jail. >> reporter: the hearings will continue on wednesday. danielle nottingham, cbs news, washington. on the "cbs moneywatch," warren buffett announces he has cancer. can a shareholder revolt over bonuses at one of wall street's biggest banks. randall pinkston is here with that and more. >> good morning. billionaire investor warren buffett is trying to reassure shareholders in his firm berkshire hathaway that his cancer diagnosis is not life-threatening. in a letter to shareholders tuesday buffett says he'll begin two-month radiation treatment in july. they say his chance for survival is between 97% and 98%. in february buffett announced berkshire's board had already selected someone to succeed him as ceo, but their identity has not been revealed. buffett's announcement came

after the markets closed. in after-hours trading, shares of berkshire's class "b" fell a little more than 1%. tokyo's nikkei gained 2%. hong kong's hang seng added 1%. a series of positive earnings reports and subsiding fears over the european debt crisis fueled a strong day on wall street. the dow added 194 points while the nasdaq gained 54. president obama has been feeling the heat over gas prices so on tuesday he proposed giving regulators more on oil speculators who drive those prices up. he wants to raise the penalty from $1 million to $10 million and. he wants spo see speculators risk more of their own money on trades to tamp down on unscrupulous bets. >> we can't afford it where they buy up oil, creating the perception of a shortage and

driving prices higher, only to flip the oil for a quick profit. >> the agency that overseas. energy market only brought one price installation last year. the majority of citigroup shareholders are saying no to pay packages for the top executives. 55% of shareholders voted down the proposal, which includes $5 million in compensation for the ceo. while the vote is nonbinding, it is the first time wall street bank execs have gotten a thumbs down on their pay packages. >> times are changing. >> indeed they are. >> randall pinkston here in new york, thank you. in politics, the two top republicans in congress are throwing their support behind mitt romney. speaking yesterday in washington, senate minority leader mitch mcconnell said he thought the race between romney and president obama is going to be, quote, incredibly close. in texas, a kidnapped baby is safe this morning but his mother is dead. gunned down in the abduction. 28-year-old kayla golden was shot outside a pediatric clinic in houston and her 3-day-old son was abducted. witnesses say a woman shot golden several times and the baby was snatched from her by a man. they fled but officials say the child was found safe last night and a person of interest is in custody. the widow of a vietnam war hero will go to the white house next month to accept the medal of honor from president obama on behalf of her husband.

mary robb jackson of kdka in pittsburgh has that story. >> reporter: running out of ammo, a badly wounded army specialist leslie sabo jr. died suppressing enemy fire, allowing a medevac helicopter to lift off from a landing zone in cambodia. les sabo was 2 years old. it was mother's day 1970. >> i wanted to remember the way he was before he died. but it was -- it was bad. >> reporter: 42 years later, his widow rose will receive the medal of honor for her husband's bravery. it comes with an invitation to the white house. >> and he says, hi, rose, he says, this is president obama. and i says, oh, my gosh. i says, this is such an honor to talk to you. he says, no, it's an honor for me to talk to you. >> reporter: from the official citation rose will hear how les's bravo company was ambushed by north vietnamese, and how he led repeated forays and how he

effort to help prevent damage during the real thing. >> having after aftershock right now. >> reporter: like the 1994 northridge quake near los angeles that killed 60 people and cost $20 billion in damage. the first test simulated that earthquake. >> we can control the environment, control how the energy goes into the building and see how it's going to respond. >> reporter: engineers put the building on cylinders called base isolators. >> we have bearings that act like a skateboard, so the building stays put when the ground move. >> reporter: the new technology is being put in some hospitals and other buildings that need to stay up and running during disasters. the base isolator deflects energy of the strongest earthquake. this building is 1.4 million pounds and almost swayed 6 inches under an 8.8 magnitude earthquake. an earthquake that size struck chile in 2010. inside the test building on the mock hospital floor, nothing fell off the walls and no ceilings collapsed. >> if we can make it cost effective we might be able to
