now it's complete coverage. it's wjz, maryland's news station. >> a photo scandal, controversial pictures surface showing u.s. troops posing with dead afghan insurgents. >> could they face criminal charges? >> good afternoon, i am don scott. >> and i am jessica kartalija. >> and here is what people will be talking about today, the u.s. army has launched an investigation after photographs surface of american paratroopers who appear to be posing with dead rebels in afghanistan. here is danielle nottingham with the latest. >> reporter: the los angeles times published two photos that appear to shows troops posing with dead insurgents. in one picture afghan security forces and u.s. troops are seen hold in the legs of a dead taliban suicide bomber, the article says an unnamed paratrooper provided 18 photos taken in 2010. the army has launched an

investigation. in a statement the pentagon said, these images by no means represent the values of professionalism of the vast majority of u.s. troops serving in afghanistan. anyone found responsible for this inhuman conduct will be held accountable in accordance with our military justice system. this latest inspect surfaces at a sensitive time in u.s.-afghan relations. in recent months the obama administration has dealt with a series of incidents that have sparked outrage in afghanistan. they include a video showing marines urinating on corpses. the accidental burning of the koran at a nato air base that sparked deadly riots and in march an army sergeant shooting rampage that killed 17 afghan villagers. the military is concerned the revelation off these photos could spark a new round of unrest in afghanistan. at the white house, danielle nottingham, wjz eyewitness news. >> and the photos come as the

u.s. is meeting with nato alleys to finalize plans for with drawing from afghanistan by the end of 2014. >> a young mother is killed instantly when a man fleeing police crashes into her car. the same crash injured her infant daughter. now her family wants to know if police were chasing the vehicle that hit them. wjz is live at police headquarters. weijia jiang stays on this investigation. >> reporter: good afternoon. the victim's family tells wjz they believe this crash could have been prevented if not for police but a spokesperson for the department insists they are not to blame. a growing memorial marks the spot where jordasha rollins was killed. a vehicle fleeing from police smashed into her car. >> now i got to raise my granddaughter. what am i going to tell my granddaughter? where is he mother when she

asks me where mommy? >> williams spoke exclusively to wjz outside johns hopkins hospital where she is recovering from injuries. williams was behind the wheel driving near north avenue and popular grove when police say she suspect, charles jeffries blew through the red light and hit the williams. williams believes it was a police chase gone wrong. >> and that is why i got to bury my daughter in a couple of days, because they not following their own rules. >> investigators say they tried to pull jefferies over because he was driving wrecklessly on hilton parkway but insists there was never a chase, which is against department policy. >> i personally listened to the radio broadcast of the officer. this was not a police chase. it happened very very quickly. >> police say jefferies tried to run away after the crash but they caught him. >> at least they got him and i hope you know justice will be served you know one way or the other. >> now right now charges are

pending against charles jefferies as police continue to consult with the office of the state's attorney. he will likely be charge with eluding police, manslaughter and because police found drugs on him. weijia jiang wjz eyewitness news. >> rollins would have turned 23 next week. >> the search is on for two men who forced their way into a home and duct taped a man and his family. they approached them, forced them back inside and bound them with tape and put them in closet. they got away with the safe and the family's car. >> we do not believe this was a random crime. these suspects seemed to have knowledge that there was money in this home and they targeted this particular family. >> the family was not hurt. at this point the only description police have to go on is this both men are around 6 feet tall. >> the student accused of threatening to kill students on

the university of maryland campus will stand trial. 19-year-old alexander song was arrested last month for making anonymous threats on line. police say the college park student posted comments saying he wanted to shoot enough people to make national news. after his arrest he was taken to a psychiatric facility for treatment. now a judge has ruled he is competent to stand trial. >> weather-wise the sunshine and blue skies could not last forever. take a live look outside at a cloudy cool afternoon and there is rain on the radar and in the region. we have got complete first warning weather coverage for you marty bass in between our bouts of rain in the outback and meteorologist bernadette woods over in the weather center. good afternoon. >> good afternoon. i want to show you radar. here is rain that has returned very needed rain. so you are going to see more through the day. across the northern half we did have this batch that moved through. a break right now. there is some more that will try to move our direction

we are getting an up close look at a shocking crash in florida as a car plows right through a store, we have to warn you the video may be shocking to some viewers. cameras were rolling as the car hops the curb and hits several people, amazingly they were among 10 people who suffered only minor injuries. that elderly driver is facing charges. >> she won the lottery but continued to collect welfare and food stamps, now a michigan woman is facing serious jail time. last year she won a million dollars but never alerted welfare officials. prosecutors say she continued to collect state assistance for months. if convicted she could face up to eight years in prison. in illinois the final winners of that megamillions jackpot has come forward.

now the weather, complete forecast and the first warning of severe weather. >> welcome back, everybody. well, we finally got some of that needed rain. we will show you first warning doppler radar and where it is. because the farther south you go the better chance you get of getting some real rain out of this. across the north a couple of showers so far but we will take

you in on a few of these areas. baltimore a couple of sprinkles. northern baltimore county a few sprinkles, the same for frederick but annapolis and dc more solid rain. take in the immediate metro area, there is where the sprinkles are, here is that rain passing across the south and will move over to the eastern shore and by tomorrow the storm heads out to sea. a few chances for showers before that happens. switch it over and show you the clouds coming in. last night and the rain breaking out today and all part of that storm passing south of us. it has turned our winds around to the northeast. 56 degrees. a big hit in temperatures from the last couple of days even from yesterday. still 15 degrees cooler. 20 degrees cooler across the south. so here is our storm on a larger scale because here is the center of it. it is down to our south. it is a quick mover. it is not a very big one and it gets out of here for tomorrow. sunshine returns, a nice
