good evening. we begin with breaking news tonight. a ware warehouse engulfed in flames. we are live with the latest from the scene. >> reporter: mary, a number of blocks have been plunged into darkness in the canyon area because of an outage that was caused by a three alarm fire. it broke out around 8:30 this evening. the heavy response by firefighters has poured so much water onto this fire that a collapsed zone has been set up around the building. that

isn'ted -- isn't the only threat. a number of containers with toxic chemicals has made this into a hazmat response as well. >> it's a mad house. the build building is full of chemicals. they're trying to keep it contained. it's been going like this for a couple hours now. >> it's our understanding that this warehouse makes plates. due to that, the chemicals they use are hazardous. we have taken all measures in evacuating some of the homes in the direction in which the wienld -- wind was blowing. >> reporter: it's not clear how many people have been evacuated. >> we see the active scene behind you tonight. thank you. fire oh fficials say no one was hurt in the fire. stay with us for the very latest. we will bring you updates as we get them on air and on line at wjz.com.

you can log onto see pictures of the fire. the other big story tonight, the east coast is getting pounded by rain. heavy rain is hampering downtown baltimore. >> the rain started last night, it started to come down heavy at times today. this strengthens while it moves up the coast. you can see the brighter colors which are the heavier bands of rain. here are the rainfall totals, we were about 5 inches down on the year, look at how we are making up ground. sales berry 2.5 inches of rain already. bwi marshall, 1.5 inches and still going up with the rain still coming down. another big part of this story,

temperatures, it is 46 in baltimore. it's 34 in oakland. there are wint er storm warnings in effect from tonight through tuesday morning and we expect accumulating snow out west. >> this spring storm is tearing through the entire area tonight. >> lest -- last october a surprise storm dumped regard snow on the northeast, nearly 20 million people were left without power. that winter storm arrived in the fall. now there's a string storm just like it. >> both producing heavy wet snow and both happening at times when we have a lot of leaves on the trees which will cause more wait on the trees and cause the trees to tumble down on tom of power lines -- on top of power lines. that's why there could

thanks to some special equipment. this woman's pets were trapped when fire tore through her apartment. they found five dogs inside when they searched. >> we found two of the dogs next to the couch and one of them was removed by a neighbor. the fourth one we found under a coach. >> two dogs did not survive, but firefighters used pet oxygen masks to save three dogs. the masks came from a grant the department received. investigators searching for remains of a 6-year-old boy discover a possible bloodstain. the stain was found on a concrete basement wall. police have been tearing apart the basement in search for etan patz, a who boy who dis-- who disappeared 30 years old.

the owner of the cruise ship says crews will start removing it from the water next month. the ship needs to be put back in a floating state, then it will be towed to land. the bodies of all but two of the 32 people presumed dead in a wreck have been recovered. the cruise liner went down back in january off the coast of italy. this year's allergy season is worse than normal. nearly 20% of americans are reporting allergies this spring. the problem may just be getting started. >> enjoying a warm winter has come with a price. >> this shows allergies to certain pollens. you have redness and swelling. >> for allergy sufferers the pay back is now.

>> you end hall them and you have nasal congestion. >> he agrees with research health surveys that report more americans being sick with allergies on any given day this march and april than during the peak of the allergy season the last 2 years. >> in the past year the pollen season doesn't start until march. this year because of the fact that winter has been mild the pollen count is going up as early as february. people have been caught by surprise. >> nearly 1 in 5 americans had allergies in march and the april illness levels are closer to may levels which are higher. the doctor advises to medicate sooner. >> using air-conditioning systems, keep the windows closed at home or when you're traveling and at the end of the day take a good shower, wash away pollen

this time. started as a lighter rain then today it started to pick up. we're going to be dealing with this on and off for the next two days. you see the colors changes. that's the next part of the storm. it's going to pull in colder air, we're talking about snow. rainfall totals, we're about 2.5 inches of rain in sales berry. the most of the rest of us have gotten about between an inch and 2 inches. you can see in come places that rain is still coming down. there's that northern wind bringing in that colder air. 36 in oakland and these numbers are going down. for baltimore, 46 right now. that's our low on the day. we managed a die of 57, but that was at midnight last night. temperatures fell into the 40s through out the afternoon. you see the rain already being thrown back into the united

states in a couple different states here. this is how it's coming together, a late season snowstorm. western maryland all the way up to western parts of pennsylvania already starting to change colors there. so we've got the low. it will continue to strengthen. it pulls down cold air in addition to connect with this cold air in canada. all that is coming together to create this snow, mainly for the higher elevations. some of the lower elevation red sox still getting -- elevations are still getting some snow. a winter storm watch. this goes through tuesday morning. we are going to be dealing with this storm through they think. you see the bull -- through then. you see the bulk of it pushes off to the north. we're close enough to see some showers around here. the forecast comes together, we
