tourists targeted, a new arrest in this vicious beating caught on tape. >> the shocking object police say was used as a weapon, and the search for more suspects tonight. hello, everybody. >> here's what people are talking about tonight. >> police make progress investigating a horrifying downtown assault. two people are under arrest, two more wanted by police. several others have not been identified. we're live and we have the latest on the video that has now been seen around the world. >> reporter: as you mentioned, police are making progress in the case, but they need more help from the public. in this humiliating video gone viral, a baltimore tourist is beaten, robbed, and stripped

naked by a throng of attackers. charged with assault around armed robbery. >> she used her high-heeled shoe as a weapon during that attack. >> reporter: davis is the second suspect for the beatingful last week, aaron parsons turned himself in after tipsters as far away from california turned him in. he publicly apologized. detectives also identified carter and baldwin in the video and put warrants out for their arrest. >> just do the right thing. this was an incredible embarrassment for baltimore. i think people are outraged at what happened and i think people need to be held accountable. >> reporter: his client has no part in tracking down others. >> this notion that he's working along with all of these people and that's just not the case at all. he doesn't know them to be able to give any information on them. >> reporter: police are encouraging the public to help

bring justice to the victim and to the city. davis is being held on $7 50,000 bond. bond was set at half a million dollars for parsons. back to you. >> thank you. police also need help finding the suspects still at large. call the warrant apprehension task force. fire investigators are looking for the cause of a massive fire in canton. you can see what's left. the building filled with corrosive chemicals went up in flames last night forcing neighbors to evacuate. firefighters put out hot spots and made sure chemicals didn't get into nearby homes or water. george zimmerman charged with shooting trayvon martin is out of jail. zimmerman's family fears for his safety. >> reporter: he walked out of a

jail wearing a bullet proof vest. police no longer guard him. >> now the concern is that he's out, he's out and he's exposed. >> reporter: his client may go out of state to protect himself. supporters have volunteered to help guard him. >> we've had a lot of offers. we're going to do everything we can to keep him safe and secure. >> reporter: he claims he shot martin in self-defense. prosecutors believe he's guilty of second degree murder. to make bail, he had to put up 10% of the bond or $15,000. meanwhile, florida's police chief tried to resign late today in response to intense criticism over the decision to not arrest zimmerman right away. commissioners won't let him step down. >> he's paying for the sins of police officers.

>> it could be months before we see zimmerman again. the next major hearing isn't until this summer. a man risks his life to save some children from a dog attack in washington, d.c. take a look at this surveillance video. you can see the children jump on a car to avoid the charging animals. that's when andre hawthorn uses his body as a shield to protect the children. animal control is still looking for those dogs and their owners. a set back for the cardiologist accused of performing hundreds of unnecessary surgeries. a judge throws out a lawsuit. according to the baltimore sun, this means they cannot seek damages in the scandal over unnecessary stint surgeries. lawyers are not commenting. inmates committing crimes from inside prison. authorities work to get

dangerous contraband cell phones out of jail cells and a new multi-million grant. we are live and we explain it's a victory for some victims' families. >> reporter: make that new pilot program to get cell phones out of the hands of inmates is due to federal funding. some say it can't come soon enough. a cell phone behind prison walls killed her son. >> it was the ultimate weapon along the with gun. >> reporter: karl lackel was gunned down days before he was set to testify in a 2007 murder trial. the accused murderer called in the hit using a contraband cell phone inside his prison cell. >> and it hurts so bad to know it's five years later and my son is gone, and he didn't have to die. >> reporter: now the maryland department of public safety will test out a program by creating a

radio frequency umbrella around prisons. >> it doesn't do anything to harm legitimate communications. >> reporter: the new system would allow calls to authorized users behind prison walls but would block all incoming and outgoing calls to contraband cell phones. the division of correction has k-9s trained to sniff out phones and stepped up security at entrances. >> we've done everything we can do to keep cell phones to a minimum. we're aggressively fighting to keep them out. >> reporter: it could be the end of a five-year battle to prevent another family from tragedy. >> and then my son can rest in peace. >> reporter: that new pilot program will begin here at the metro poll tan transition center for a 30-day trial. reporting live for wjz eyewitness news. >> thank you.

it's mostly cloudy, 43 degreesin maryland. dramatic video, a truck smashes through the front door of a gun shop in the middle of the night. the man inside stole two dozen assault weapons. no arrests have been made. investigators say the video does not clearly show the faces of any of the suspects. police video catches an explosion that injures two firefighters. now watch as you see a flash and

then both firefighters are thrown to the ground. they suffered minor facial burns. fire officials say protective clothing saved them from more serious injury. singer jennifer hudson gets emotional on the stand. she broke down several times as she told the jurors how she didn't want her sister to marry the defendant. he's accused of killing her mother, brother, and nephew in a jealous rage. the singer was the first witness called by prosecutors. an extensive search is under way after a 6-year-old girl disappears. the parents say the last time they saw her was when they put her to bed on friday night. they found a broken screen in the child's bedroom. the family was asked to leave their home after fbi dogs came up with possible evidence. police say they've searched a number of homes in the neighborhood and interviewed 15 registered sex offenders in the area. they have not identified any

suspects. a major federal raid on a baltimore flea market. seized counter fit goods and tonight there are new details about the extensive two and a half year investigation. we have more on the undercover sting. >> reporter: well, authorities say counter fit merchandise is illegal and it hurts legitimate businesses. homeland security agents raided the popular flea market on sunday in south baltimore. it was the nexus of selling counter fit merchandise. >> purses, luxury goods, sneakers, that type of stuff, sunglasses. >> reporter: agents spent two and a half years investigating the market. the warrant issued details the operation. they even set up a fake business to gather intelligence. nike and coach were some of the many names for sale. >> if you didn't have anything counter fit and you didn't have

any warrants or etc., they let you go. any merchandise that wasn't real is gone, everything. >> reporter: agents say 200 of the 300 vendors here were selling counter fit goods. agents won't say exactly what items were counter fitted or how much they confiscated. >> it's a huge issue. it's a multi-billion dollar industry. it impacts the united states in many ways. >> reporter: agents are telling vendors it could be mid-week before they have an opportunity to go through all the merchandise and determine what's legitimate and what's not. >> thank you. in 1996, baltimore police charged 30 vendors with counter fitting. donating a kidney to help her boss. she says she entered a transplant group so her boss could move up on the waiting list.

she became ill after the surgery and was demoted and eventually fired from her job. she claims her boss who received a transplant berated her for missing work. there is an amazing lost and found story behind one beat-up soccer ball. it was swept away by the tsunami that devastated japan and washed up on the alas can coast. the couple who found it used the writing on the ball to track down the 16-year-old owner. it's a treasured possession. the ball was given to him by his former teammates after he transferred schools. >> i'm sure he's glad to get it back. >> that's incredible. time to check in with bob. it's chilly out there, bob. >> let's look at temperatures and conditions. there's a bit of a warm up in the works. now we're only at 43 degrees. dew point 36. it's beginning to shift more to the west, southwest. 9 miles an hour. on the way back up, it was quite

low earlier. it's cold. at least we're above freezing now. some places in garret county above 2-3000 feet picked up at much as 8 inches of snow. right now, 41 in bel-air. 54 today, the average high 67. the average low 45. 94 in 1960. 31 the record low in 1982. right now, the winds beginning to turn a little bit more. tomorrow, down scoping winds could give us sunshine, still a slight chance for the chilly air. mainly north of the region but looks like the winds won't be too much of a major factor. the low pressure came up the east coast with heavy rains in much of the area.

one and a half to over three inches of rain from central maryland into delaware. those same amounts over new england. to the west, west of new york state, buffalo area, down through western pennsylvania, pretty much west of harrisburg you saw some snow. there you see it across the western pennsylvania mountains. not much left to it now. drier air is coming in. tomorrow we have quite a few clouds. maybe a brief pop-up sprinkle or shower. it looks like a warming trend coming by wednesday and thursday. with that warmer air, the risk of more shower activity, which we still need by the way. we're still way below normal for the year. for the month, we're almost caught up because of all the rain this weekend. generally at or below normal until the end of the week. winds tomorrow still kind of gusty, gusting up to 25 knots at times. the bay temperature runs 58.

not a great night for baseball. luckily they had the night off. >> let's hope the weather improves and the os continue to play good baseball. the os get a day of rest today before they start a home stand with the toronto blue jays in town tomorrow. the os are just a game out of first place. they trail both toronto and the yankees.

fork played in texas tonight. a-rod and the yankees coming off a strong series in boston. a 7-4 new york victory, they've won four in a row. counting down to the nfl draft, first round prime time thursday night. retired kicker matt stolver will represent the ravens announcing baltimore's picks in the second and third round friday night. more allegations of foul play directed at the new orleans saints. espn sites sources that they illegally listened in on opposing head coaches conversations at the super dome doing so between 2002 and 2005. lumis is said to have eves dropped. college lacrosse, maryland faces off against north carolina.

these ladies go all out. taking down a tarheel with a shot to the head. four of them found the net. that one on a lowball to finish a break. four goals, two assists for the junior from century high school leading maryland to a 14-10 championship victory. that means the senior class will leave having won the acc season every season they played. that's a major accomplishment for those seniors. >> i mean, it's awesome. we kind of had a talk in the locker room this past week and they were saying how they didn't want to leave without winning their fourth. the whole team just wanted to be together for that, so we all came together and gave them their fourth win. >> overall, the ninth conference title for the maryland women. they'll be going for the ncaa title next. the washington wizards won tonight. they've won four in a row.
