with her murder. he was so close to her, he considered her like his own sister. his stunning indictment comes 16 months after she vanished. a search involved most of baltimore's homicide unit. her father reacted strongly to the arrest. >> it's still a shock to me that she's gone, that she was murdered. it's a shock to me that there's an arrest that's been made and it has to be michael johnson. >> i promised felicia's mother that there would not be a person by that i would not do something that would one day lead to the arrest for the person who murdered her daughter. >> reporter: the top prosecutor was tight lipped about why they arrested johnson now and the motive for the killing. >> we believe we have the right guy. now we have to move forward with the trial. >> reporter: investigators

interviewed johnson repeatedly. his lawyer says he knows of no new evidence in the case. >> they made their promise. they said we believe you're the person, we're going to get you. >> reporter: those close to felicia yearn for justice and hope this arrest brings closure. >> justice is to make sure he's found guilty. >> reporter: johnson now has a new girlfriend and a child. at city police headquarters for wjz eyewitness news. >> johnson's attorney questions the timing of the arrest after the lead detective was suspended this week in another matter. $30 million, that's how much yardley love's mother is demanding from the young man who killed her daughter. filed a wrongful death lawsuit. a jury convicted him of killing the native at her apartment in charlottesville, virginia. he faces 26 years in prison for second degree murder. tonight, a 6-year-old boy is in the hospital hit by someone

riding a bike illegally. we are live at baltimore police headquarters and we explain the search is on to find that driver and that rider. >> reporter: police say that dirt bike rider slammed right into that 6-year-old boy as he was walking near an elementary school. now police want the driver off the streets. police on the look out for a dangerous dirt bike rider who nearly killed this 6-year-old. the little boy walking in this elementary school field when a witness tells wjz the dirt bike driver popped a wheelie, lost control of his bike, and slammed into the 6-year-old. the driver got off his bike, shook the unconscious child, then drove away. >> we all have kids. we want our kids to be safe. come on, now. >> reporter: neighbors say illegal dirt bikes dominate these streets daily. >> they be taunting the police. >> reporter: chopper 13 caught a

dirt bike pack dangerously weaving through traffic. one city leader stays if you want to get the dirt bikes off the street, you have to give them another place to ride. >> i think it would be more proactive to look at creating trails for things like dirt bikes or off-road vehicles. >> reporter: worries free wheeling dirt bikers on the street could create more danger this spring. >> the dirt bikers are concerned about being nabbed by the police. they're taking even more chances in terms of speeding. >> reporter: police now hoping to nab the driver who hit cory adams. witnesses say he's in his 20s with braids. he drives a red and black bike with the number 13 or 23 on the side. and that 6-year-old boy is in serious condition tonight. his family tells us he was hit so hard his teeth were knocked out. he did undergo surgery earlier today.

>> thank you. police are not allowed to chase dirt bike riders because it's too dangerous. instead, they use helicopters to track the bikers. tsa screeners paid to keep illegal items oh it of u.s. airports now caught smuggling drugs through security lines. undercover agents brought down the brazen operation with a sting at the lax airport. a suspected drug courier's mistake uncovered information that tsa screeners were taking bribes to let meth amphetamine and marijuana through security. now four former and current tsa employees are indicted on trafficking and bribery charges. >> the courier and the screener would communicate by cell phone or text message so the courier would know which lane to go through. >> through. >> the indictment says shipments were set up through meetings for bribes up to $2400.

that's a lot of money for tsa screeners who earn between $24 and $34,000 a year. >> it is compromising security and could potentially endanger the flying public. >> the tsa administrator for nearly four years, he says the agency needs an overhaul. >> if people are taking money to let drugs through, they might as well potentially let explosives through or people through or anything for that matter. this is betrayal. this is treason. this is against the whole fabric of what the agency is about and the people are about. >> three alleged drug couriers are charged in the 22-count indictment. new scandal swirling around the secret service involving sexual favors. this time, there's evidence secret service agents hired prostitutes in el salvador and partied at a strip club days before president obama and his

family arrived. nine secret service agents have lost their jobs. tonight, two big develops in the growing casino industry. another gets early approval. the state's lottery commission awarded a license for rocky gap state park in western maryland. it could raise $40 million in the first year. in just a little over a month, the state's largest parlor will be open for business. we're live tonight and we explain and an inside look at the mills. >> reporter: that's right. the expectations are high, as you can imagine, and the deadline for the opening is fast approaching. when construction is finished, managers say maryland live casino will be one of the largest in the country. the first station to get video of the slot machines turned on showing this stage of construction.

it opens june 6th, a day fast approaching. looking around, it appears there's still a lot of work to do. >> we're working around the clock. we're going to be open june 6th at 10:00 p.m. >> reporter: initially there will be six restaurants and live entertainment every night. opponents feared crime and worried the casino would prey on the poor. by fall of this year there will be 4750 machines operating costing anywhere from 1 penny to $100 to play. >> i think it's going to the schools, which personally i think is overfunded anyway. >> if it keeps our taxes down, it's a good idea. >> what we're building is the las vegas or atlantic city experience right here in maryland. >> reporter: estimated $500 million to build the casino.

it is partly cloudy, 61 degrees in central maryland. the complete forecast is coming up. riot police are out in force in montreal after a student protest spills into the streets. police had to use percussion bombs and pepper spray on the crowd. 85 people were arrested for smashing store fronts and vandalizing cars. three police officers suffered minor injuries. the students are upset because the government broke off negotiations over a tuition increase. police in florida say they have arrested the person on camera robbing two elderly sisters. the suspect grabs their purse, one of the sisters fell out of her wheelchair and broke two ribs. the 19-year-old was later turned in by his father who saw the video on television. two men behind bars accused of stealing over a million

dollars worth of copper wire. the theft disrupted phone and internet service for thousands of people. they say the men were looking to sell the copper wire in west virginia. one of the suspects was recently released from prison for the same crime. the u.s. government issues a terror warning because the fast-approaching anniversary of osama bin laden's death. counter terrorism officials say there's no credible or specific threat, but the deadliest possible threat is that of homegrown terrorists. and one of the most dangerous, a former baltimore county man who plotted to kill americans. tonight, we investigate and we look at how the boy next door turned into the local face of terror. >> reporter: the quiet suburban streets of this neighborhood

suddenly ground zero in a 2003 terror investigation. >> guy knocked on my door, outside my house i noticed a lot of unmarked cars. he said he was from the fbi. >> reporter: agents searched for information. >> that guy used to live across the treat from me. >> reporter: the only american citizen being held in guantanemo bay. >> what do you remember about him? >> he was a nice kid. >> he road his bike, he played a little ball. >> reporter: the seemingly innocent man was plotting terror. >> bin laden gave him a job. >> reporter: while the 9/11 attacks horrified most citizens, prosecutors say he was inspired. two months later he jumped on a plane to pakistan. >> he joined with and materialry supports al qaeda. >> reporter: he planned to kill the president of pakistan at a mosque, but the plan failed.

he tried to poison local water supplies and blow up gas stations. when that failed, he flew to indonesia and delivered money. >> what strikes you about the case in. >> he got involved with the worst of the worst. >> reporter: michael greenburger is a former u.s. counter terrorism official. he's intrigued by a landmark deal the former baltimore county man recently struck with the u.s. government. it could stop future attacks. he pled guilty and will testify against other terrorists. >> the fact that they've given him a good deal suggests he does have information that is useful to the united states in plotting out what the terror threats are. >> reporter: kahn's defense team. >> he wishes he had never been

involved, ever. >> reporter: since 9/11, a handful of other marylanders have been charged with less serious terror-related incidents. >> do you think the government is taking the right steps to stop homegrown terrorists? >> yes. but we cannot forget, there's an ease of entry into these activities. >> reporter: the transformation from a quiet teen to a terrorist leaves some people who knew him puzzled. >> who knows what triggers anyone. >> i guess they could be anywhere. >> kahl will serve between 19-25 years for his crimes. a florida woman discovers the shocking reason behind her breathing discomfort. she was scheduled for cancer surgery after a black spot was found on her lungs. a doctor in cuba reminded her about swallowing a fruit pit nearly 30 years ago.

lucht going to the indianapolis colts. he takes over as colts qb after the departure of peyton manning to denver. second pick, robert griffin, iii taken by the redskins. they hope he becomes the star the team has been lacking at qb for decades. the orioles are seeing improvement in their pitching, good enough to have the os in first place going for a sweep of toronto tonight. another well-pitched game, tied 2 all, then the bats come through. adam jones facing jansen, that's a high fly to left field. solo homerun to give the os a 3-2 lead. later that same inning, chris davis with a runner on base, he'll drive a pitch from reliever oliver. another home run. makes it 5-2.
