murder-suicide. two bodies inside a howard county church. a third in the woods. what police are learning about the shocking crime. >> hi, everybody. i'm mary bubala. kai is on assignment. here's what people are talking about. police say a homeless man killed two women inside a church in ellicott city, a church that regularly helps feed him. wjz is live. mike hellgren has the developing investigation. mike? >> mary, it's such a tragedy. the church of the episccal church says they are saddened beyond words. one of them, the other woman, reverend mary cone is in critical condition at shock traum a. >> reporter: the scene around the usually peaceful st. peters episcopal looked like a crime scene last night. after dozens of police officers surrounded the area.

after someone found two people shot inside. now, authorities say a homeless man who had been getting help from the church food bank and lived in the woods nearby, pulled the trigger. they say douglas franklin jones, 56, shot the woman, then killed himself. investigators recovered the handgun and say jones was recently belligerent, argumentive, angry at the church for some reason. police do not believe the two women were specifically target. they just happened to be the only ones inside the church. loved ones gathered this afternoon. >> i'm a father. and knowing that that could happen, in a church, of all things. my wife and i are active in our church. and i just can't imagine something like that happening. she was a wonderful woman. >> reporter: reverend cone got her ph.d. from loyola university in maryland. we will have much more reaction, including from police, coming up all new next hour. for now, reporting live, mike

hellgren, wjz eyewitness news. >> all right, mike. thank you. the church plans to open so members can deal with their grief tonight, from 6:00 to 8:00. well, we are learning more tonight, about a man found shot to death near a school in northwest baltimore. vic is in the newsroom with more on the investigation. >> police are still looking for answers after the body is discovered behind the school. windsor hills middle school is closed today. as police investigate the death. the body was found before hours, so students were told to stay home. police believe the victim is a man between the ages of 18 and 20. they don't believe there is a connection between the school and the shooting. >> at this point, we don't believe it's connected with the school in any way. however, we want to have parents speak to their children and stay away from school today. and we will will conduct our investigations. >> the death is being investigated as a murder. police are also looking for reports of gunshots heard in the area last night. >> thank you. the school is located several

blocks from the heavily-wooded area of lincoln park. on the stand, the man behind a controversial election night robocall begins telling his side to jurors. derek valcourt explains, political consultant, julius henson wants the same. >> henson says the ehrlich administration chose not to take his advice, and he says they are ultimately responsible for those robocalls. >> reporter: emerging from the first week of trials, julius henson had few words for reporters. >> doing well. doing okay. >> henson took the stand friday afternoon, detailing his political consulting work, to the failed 2010 campaign to reelect bob ehrlich for governor. >> i will be happy to talk to you when my testimony is over. >> reporter: when henson returns to court monday, he will be asked about his role in the controversial election night robocall that prosecutors

say amounted to illegal fraud. the calls went out to registered democrats before polls closed are suggesting there was no need to go vote because democrat martin o'malley was already winning. >> we're okay. relax. >> reporter: henson admits he wrote that call, but blames the ehrlich campaign for the legal problems. greg masony, a senior adviser and confidant, testified that he had no knowledge of the robocall untilar -- until after the election. henson redistrict -- predicts he will be vindicated. >> i have thousands of people praying all over this country and will be victorious. >> reporter: jurors will likely begin their deliberations early next week. at the courthouse, derek valcourt, wjz eyewitness news. >> reporter: henson faces the possibility of up to 12 years in prison. ehrlich's campaign manager, paul schurick, was sentenced to home detention and community service on the same charges. as the doomsday clock continues to tick tonight, a decision about a special

session. governor martin o'malley says the session will be held may 14th. it will last three days. lawmakers need to make changes to a budget that left the state with $500 million in cuts. the budget process fell apart last month, when lawmakers failed to pass an income tax increase, which would have prevented the cuts. more on the funeral services planned for junior seau. >> seau's family says they will donate his brain to research for repetitive head injuries. the medical examiner's office ruled his death a suicide. it appears to be a self- inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. the family and other nfl players are worried the suicide may have been prompted by the brain disease, cte. it occurs when a person suffers multiple concussions. seau's doctors are hoping that doctors will be able to confirm

that, once they finish researching his brain. sad news from the world of music tonight. adam yowch of the beef beast -- of the beastie boys has died. his representatives confirmed he died in new york, after a nearly three-year battle with cancer. he was also known as mca. he was diagnosed with cancer in 2009. he was 47 years old. the family of the floridaa&m university drum major, who died during a hazing incident, wants all band activities suspended. this comes as police file charges in connection with the young man's death. >> you cannot go on as usual, business as usual, with that band and the functioning of that school and you haven't made any changes. >> there's 400 other students that are still in that band. and the same thing could happen to them. >> reporter: based upon their

investigation. >> reporter: late wednesday, orange county prosecutors indicted 13 students in connection with champion'sion's death. the charges range from misdemeanor to third-degree hazing charges. according to the medical examiner, robert champion died from multiple blunt force blows to his body. that's why his family believes the pending charges aren't enough. >> we have to change the mindset. you have to clean out. just think about it. you have to clean house, in order to get the mess out of there. >> reporter: they say realistically, florida prosecutors have their hands tied because there is no physical evidence connecting band members to champion's death. he blames orlando and fam u investigators. >> this is botched from day 1. that bus never should have left orlando. it did. it got back to tallahassee. it was then cleaned and chartered to someone else. >> that was craig bell reporting. eight of the 13 people charged

two leopards, two monkee ofies and a -- monkeys and a bear were returned today to the widow of thompson. they were being held at the zoo. terry thompson released bears, lions and tigers, before committing suicide. authority were forced to kill 48 of them. and one was later euthanized. aspect war protestors -- anti-war protestors at the university. now, seven people hurt in that shooting are demanding some answers. their survivors are launching a campaign to persuade federal and state lawmakers to hold a new hearing on evidence from the 1970s shooting. the department of justice said last month, they will not reopen the investigation. in today's healthwatch, an alarming new study shows the risk for baby boomers with asthma increases significantly with age. randall pinkston has the latest on the research for wjz. >> reporter: 66-year-old

richard washburn was diagnosed with aspatwo weeks ago. >> -- asthma two weeks ago. >> i could hear the wheezing. and i thought, that's not normal. >> but doctors say he had it for a long time. >> it explains a lot of things. particularly being out of breath in high school. >> as baby boomers enter their 60s, their risk of asthma is four times higher than other patients. their overall general health is also important. doctors say it is important to recognize the symptoms. >> clearly a history of asthma and allergies ask -- is a major risk factor. beyond that, shortness of breath, cough, wheezing. >> an alarming number are misdiagnosed and undertreated. that can lead to a series of problems, including decreased lung function.

recovery remains sluggish. for the second straight month, employers pulled back on hiring. the economy adding -- added fewer than the 154,000 created in march. and a sharp decline from earlier this year. the unemployment dipped to 1.8%. but only because more people quit looking for work. today's disappointing jobs report sent the price of crude oil below $100 a barrel. traders fear that this will result in lower demand for oil. but there is a silver lining. this should push gas prices lower ahead of the summer driving season. and pepsi is teaming up with the king of pop. the beverage giant will use the late michael jackson's likeness in a global campaign. pepsi says the promotion coincides with the 25th anniversary of jackson's album, "bad." and that's your money watch.

at least a dozen people are dead, after twin bombings in russia. the first bomb went off when police stopped a vehicle to check documents. the second blast came just as emergency crews arrived. more than 90 people were taken to the hospital. another 20 were treated for injuries on the scene. investigators say they found the remains of a man and a woman, suspected of being suicide bombers. eight people are hurt when protestors clash, with egypt, near the defense ministry. thousands were killed in cairo.

saturday at 10:00. heavy rains leave a truck driver stand -- stranded on the hood in fort michigan. more than five inches of rain has fallen near flint in the past several hours, stranding nearly a dozen cars. but so far, no injuries are reported. a giant sinkhole opens up behind a home in windermere, florida, displacing a family of six. as lisa bell reports, the orange county department is making the family move out. >> reporter: firefighters hauled out, tvs, mattresses, and furniture, clearing out, lulam breeze's house in hour. >> just moved in. got all of the declarations on -- decorations on the wall. and my wife woke me up and said there was a hole in the backyard. >> reporter: a hole, indeed. at 50 feet deep, and 100 feet wide, you could easily fit two school buses in this sinkhole. lambreeze says -- lambreeze

said its first priority was to get his wife and kids out of the house. >> my wife said she could hear pops. and she could hear the grass and trees falling into the hole. >> four trees fell into the hole. a fifth tree is teetering on the side. from this video, you can see just how close to the sinkhole their back patio. only about three feet from the grass, separates the house from the hole. >> it's kine of -- kind of like an avalanche. >> reporter: with all of their belongings now out of the house and onto the driveway. he said he is grateful it isn't worse. >> my kids play back there. >> still not clear what caused the sinkhole to form. but dry weather conditions have been lingering over that region. saving the united states postal service. financial losses are mounting today. the nearly bankrupt postal services is urging the house of representatives to give them more authority to make cuts.

particularly charles county, portions of approximate -- p.g. county. around the baltimore region, it's quiet for now. perhaps in the next couple of hours, you'll start seeing some things pop. because it is warm and humid. 83 now. the dew points, way up to 69 degrees. it's about the highest you could see. 62% humidity. winds west/southwest, 6. the barometer, now beginning to fall. 29.91 inches. showers south of that region. 80, pax river. 66, the cool spot, ocean city. they had a few showers and storms. this morning, around the d.c. area, and moved through portions of a.a. county. in fact, they were pretty strong. rock island, down by the bay. we've got a west and southwest wind that brought the warm air in, finally. we were stuck in the low clouds and fog for a while. the clouds did hang in. but they now pretty much cleared out. we do expect to see some thunderstorms breaking up. particularly across portions of

pennsylvania. this is where this front we have been talking about is going to slide through pennsylvania tonight. already some storms breaking out. right through there. you see it? going to slide down to our region. probably after 6:00, 7:00, maybe into later tonight. a risk of showers and thunderstorms. and any of those storms can create gusty winds and hail. we had some reports yesterday of penny, nickel and even quarter-sized hail in some of the thunderstorms across the frederick and west virginia area. less humid air comes in tomorrow afternoon. once the front gets far enough to the south of us. there may be a morning shower, particularly around d.c. south, i think we'll clear out and get really pleasant for the weekend. northeast winds 5 to 10 knots on the bay. tonight, the risk of showers and storms. probably until about 10:00, 11:00. 62. and tomorrow, 83. maybe an isolated morning shower. mainly south of the baltimore annapolis, washington area. and clearing out, drying out. beautiful, looks like for the afternoon. and tomorrow night, the full
