one down nobody on. slow roller. three or four hopper down the -- up and off the mark. throw it over by the dugout. fortunately for the red sox it will come off the few sad he tags him and he's safe. gonzalez wants the first base umpire jim joyce to get help from the home plate umpire as to whether or not he turned toward second base. gonzalez thought he had. >> jim: well he did actually luis saw he got somebody in baltimore. gave it that little left shoulder and that was enough. did he go into foul territory. no. that is part of the deal. if you are in fair territory and make that. >> gary: another move toward second which obviously

had the back problems but will always talk about him. here we go. >> gary: may get nine innings in today. >> jim: he obviously knows what his job is. get through this inning and eventually you will score a run. certainly with his stuff. big and strong as he is. capable of pitching more than one ening. tough week ahead with the rangers and the rays coming in. fouled by the yankees. >> gary: and the strike taken. so you've got chen pitched friday. i don't know if he threw today or not. a lot of times you will throw the third day. so i guess he would be a candidate. you also have your position players. >> jim: hate going there. >> gary: so we are down. the orioles are down to starters if more are needed. and the pitch is taken down
6:46 pm
low. jim johnson working to marlin byrd. byrd has had a single back in the fifth inning. >> jim: jim liked to pitch down and the strike zone has been out. >> gary: byrd will take that and in there for a strike. been outstanding in his performances for the orioles this season. byrd has a 2-2 life-time off jim johnson. and just missed. three balls, two strike count on the lead off batter. another great job by our reliever. lindstrom working a couple innings. one hit. and fouled off to hold it at 3- 2.
6:47 pm
>> gary: here is johnson's 3-2 delivery. back to the mound. reynolds had to reach a little bit but gets it. byrd retires. so one away. >> jim: the pitch count will be important. so there are seven pitches right there to marlin byrd. >> gary: jim johnson this season has worked no more than an inning. and johnson comings in with a fastball for a -- comes in with a fastball for a strike.

6:50 pm
>> gary: johnson 6-13. runner on at first base will be the 14th hit of the ball game for boston. orioles have 12. pedroia takes a breaking ball a good one. inside corner. that one locked him up before he got the swing started. pedroia single came back. since then he has drawn two walks. been stranded both times. fastball away. one ball, one strike, two down. this will be the 18th pitch for jim johnson. the seventh reliever used by the orioles. two pal one strike -- two ball
6:51 pm
one strike count. >> jim: you can't anticipate going this long. 13 innings on friday certainly doesn't bode well. don't want to over use guys. >> gary: and you can't give into pedroia because he can drive the ball. and if you walk him you got gonzalez hitting over .400. >> jim: he will chop that one foul.

go the 15th inning. nobody has scored since the eighth. hill came on to pitch for the red sox with a runner on and nobody out in the 13th inning. so he's going into his third inning of work. red sox have on the bench nick and kelly left. bull pen today ten and a third innings. >> jim: rich hill he is happy to be out there. doing a nice job. very, very likable young man. really tried to be better for the orioles just couldn't quite do it. once you hurt your arm as he did and i did you always root for people that come back and reinvent themselves which we have done. >> gary: he will work here to nick markakis. jones and then wieters do. orioles only have one position player left. that is the third catcher. and they have no relievers left.
6:55 pm
johnson the last one and he worked that last inning. >> jim: as much as i like hill i am rooting for markakis. >> gary: markakis is certainly due. he's been on but no hits. 0-4 officially today. nick .236 on the year. and that will be in there for a strike from hill. >> jim: rich hill also about 6'4", 6'5" so when he does drop down he's over on the first base side he's stepping right at you. that's the reinvention. trying to be more effective. you can get lefties out you can have a job in the big league. >> gary: markakis will take it. he was really looking away.
6:56 pm
>> jim: that is one of the curveballs that go around the plate. >> and the count will go to 3- 2. >> jim: there have been pitches around the plate that have been called strikes. >> gary: here's the 3-2 delivery. that is up high and again incredible. the orioles have the lead off man on here in the 15th inning. four out of the last five and here comes bobby valentine. surrendering the lead off walk. atchison is still available in the bull pen but not anymore. atchison will come on to pitch. and jones coming to the plate. s has just named the hyundai equus
6:57 pm
6:58 pm
>> gary: these guys play each other 18 times. there won't be any secret after this. >> jim: good numbers against both sides. three innings a walk and a strike out. another one of the guys that have been around a long time. 36 years old. first of the big leagues back in 2004 and struggled in japan and last year did a nice job for the red sox. down in aaa went 6-2 and then
6:59 pm
eventually in 17 games. good slider. >> gary: there is adam jones to face him with a runner at first base. orioles with a lead off -- not only to score him but lead him off. >> jim: 35 pitches for scott. but very effective. >> gary: foul tips. that one called. >> jim: situational hitting and again we talked about four of the last five inks getting somebody on. late charlie who was catcher when i came up went on to be a great hitting -- the area of maximum vulnerability hit the ball behind the runner if you do you advance runners. that is something the orioles haven't been able to do. in this ballpark you look at the wall and a little pull conscious. it can work. >> gary: jones 2-3 off atchison in his career.
