growing tragedy, a second woman dies in a shocking church shooting. now today they defy the violence and head back to the scene of the crime. >> good evening and thanks for joining us this double murder leaves the city stunned. a gunman kills two members of a church. how that church is moving forward. >> that second victim was taken off of life support and pronounced dead last night after her organs were donated to help others. >> a packed house for sunday morning services at st. peters

church. the bishop personally on hand to offer special condolences and messages of support to the devastated congregation. >> it was hard and i think it began the process of healing. >> police say thursday a homeless man named douglas jones living in the woods near the church entered the church office and shot the rev rand and the church secretary and then took his own life. >> we're dealing with it in our various ways. >> it was clear from the start that the 62 year old would not survive but she was kept on life support long enough that her organs could be donated. >> she was really one of the most amazing women i've met. the kindest people. she never turned a person away and even at her death she was bringing life through that donation of her organs. it just speaks something about the kind of woman she was. >> the church had been feeding douglas jones regularly but he had recently become belligerent. thursday he was turned away

from the church's food bank before the shooting. church members vowed this tragedy won't effect their generosity. >> they have ministered to the poor and needily for thousands of years and we will continue to and won't do it from behind bullet proof glass. her body was taken for an autopsy. >> thanks so much. funeral services are now set. they're set for may 8th at 3:00 p.m. at the cathedral of incarnation in baltimore. and the services for brenda will be held at 1:30 p.m. on may 10th at st. jones. top al qaeda leader is dead tonight. he was wanted for his role in the 2000 bombing of the u.s. coal warship. he was hit by a missile from a drone when he was stepping out of his vehicle in yemen.

it comes after extended surveillance by the cia and the u.s. military. >> it's sistering up strong emotions about the attacks. the latest on the on going hearings. >> lawyers for the prisoners charged with the september 11th attacks say their clients were not trying to disrupt the court by reading magazines, praying, and not answering the judge's questions. >> they refuse to acknowledge the legitimacy of the military commissions. >> the five men including the one that claims to have planned the hijackings were arraigned in military court saturday. eddie was one of the few victim's relatives there. he lost his sister lucy when the towers in new york came tumbling down. >> how they perceive themselves and how the lawyers are perceiving them, hurtful. hurtful because they have no remorse. they have no -- i don't think

they have any souls i'll tell you the truth. >> the arraignment comes ten and a half years after the planes destroyed the world trade center. many of the families of the nearly 3,000 people who died here at ground zero as well as in washington and pennsylvania say justice has taken too long. the chief prosecutor says he's doing this by the book. >> justice in every society is patient, methodical, patient, determined, but patient. >> they lost their son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. their anger remains directly at the defendants, not the system. >> i think people, if they could have come back and told them we killed 50 children today he would have said wonderful. >> the defendants will be back in court in the summer. >> right here a crowd gathered

to watch the trial on closed circuit television. well, a shocking murder to tell you about tonight at the site of the kentucky derby. police in louisville kentucky find a man's body right behind a barn in churchill downs this morning. they say he is a 48 year old that had injured that suggest he was probably involved in a fight. right now investigators are trying to talk to everyone in the barn area for more information and so far there is no word on a motive. well, the count down is on, just six months until election day. the republican party is coming together around their likely nominee mitt romney. the unity comes as the general election is kick into full swing. president obama announced his bid this weekend. >> mitt romney marked six months to election day with a visit to the celtics playoff game. he is supporting his hometown team as he's picking up with the republican party trying to come together. newt gingrich says he'll do

woman dead in a car right near the mall. police have not released the victim's name. anyone with information is asked to call metro crime stoppers at 1-866-7-lockup. >> listen a renewed warning to home owners from police tonight. they're telling you to watch out for bottle bombs that could show up in your neighborhood. tonight police say there is an easy way to identify them. >> you can try to keep it as clean as i can. >> he is often in his yard, weeding, moeing moe -- mowing and picking up trash. >> i see that laying around i'll pick it up and throw it in the garbage. >> that's what most home owners would do but last month one of his neighbors picked up a bottle bomb right on their front lawn. >> i tell you it's a shame because these people around here all try to keep it up as nice as they can. >> now police are warning neighbors to stay away.

the bombs are created by pouring household chemicals into a bottle. the caps are screwed back on and placed on drive ways, in mailboxes and in gardens. >> the chemical reaction inside the closed bottle creates too much gas for the bottle to contain and then there is an explosion. >> police say a bottle bomb can explode within a matter of seconds from the time that someone picks it up and that blast can be so intense it can cause second degree burns. >> these devices would be identifiable because many times the bottle would be swollen. it would be misshapen in some way. >> from now on i'll keep an eye out for that kind of stuff. >> and that is what police are asking. baltimore could county alone had two incidents this year. on your mark, get set and go, hundreds of runners including wjz's sports director

who just passed through there and our executive producer, part of many people that took part in the 4th annual maryland half marathon today. it featured a special 8-mile run inspired by a dog. it joined racers in the five mile mark of the race last year and kept on going. all proceeds will go to the university of maryland cancer center. nice day. not too hot out there. a major win for the orioles after keeping fans on the edge of their seats for 17 long innings. that was a long game. the birds sweep the red sox tonight winning 9-6. the last time that happened was june of 1994. that was a long time ago. the first game since 1925 in which both teams put a position player on the mound. the outstanding highlights

marched to rally against alleged cheating in the presidential election. more than 400 people were arrested and dozens were hurt. the demonstration comes after putin was elected to a new term. he'll be sworn in tomorrow. lightning sparks a massive fire in minneapolis. it struck a power line and then burst into flames there last night. the fire was so hot it actually melted through the black top and created a blaze underground. crews extinguished the bulk of the flames but had to let the gas fires burn because of threat of vapors exploding. >> we had a high voltage power line laying on top of the cars. we believe it arced into the gas lines in the street and melted them and started them on fire. >> three cars parked on the street were destroyed. at least one family was evacuated. the gas company is digging up that street now and shutting down gas manes.

>> you can't believe everything you read on the internet. that holds true for facebook as well. about one out of every four facebook users lies on their profile. and it's not just to impress people. sometimes people do it for privacy. they say that they false something false to protect their identity. others use incorrect or incomplete names so they can try and hide from their employers. >> well, it's a day full of neighbors helping neighbors. both of our city's housing assistance programs launches a program and even the smallest of hands can help out. >> i get a shovel -- can you hop over here? we're going to have more diggers. >> a common sight, clean shirted volunteers and community members all coming out to help their neighbors. >> this is our daughter's school. we want to help out.

>> volunteers join police cadets, businesses, church groups, and girl scouts. >> we have the girl scout law and motto and we have to be resourceful and use resources wisely. so our hands are resources. >> embarking on beautification projects for those that can't do it all themselves. >> we're having everybody here together, it shows the importance and value of community and being out there to lend a helping hand. >> more than 300 volunteers are expected to be in park heights for good neighbor day. some are learning the lesson at a very young age. he knows why he's here. >> we're going to plant flowers. >> more than 100 clean up efforts are underway. alley clean ups and graffiti removal may just be for today but the values instilled will last far beyond. >> everybody is helping today.

>> those kids are cute. the good neighbor day is going to become an annual event. >> they gathered at the maryland zoo today walking for a great cause. the 10th annual baltimore kidney walk took place at the zoo. paul krueger is the celebrity ambassador. he lost a kidney as part of a car accident. wjz was a proud sponsor of the walk today. you see people bundled up out there today. not the nicest of spring mornings but we've been spoiled so far this year haven't we. >> well, march, in a lot of places the warmest march ever and then last month was still above average, not quite as drastic and our temperatures for the most part are running above average. >> they are? >> but that is into our daytime highs and overnight lows when they take that average. we've had warm nights out there. >> i was thinking it just feels like we have been below average but maybe because we were so

spoiled early in the year. >> we were spoil. >> because actually it got above average. 72 degrees is where we topped out today. but the other thing, look at the overnight low, 59 degrees. the average is 49. that factors in to give us our temperature for the day. overall, right now, we have cooled down some what. 61 right now in baltimore, 60 in oakland. it has been much cooler along the coast, specifically ocean city. we had the east wind all day long. most of the afternoon was in the 50s and what happeneds with the easterlily wind, it doesn't just cool down the areas along the coast but this time of year when we have the really cool ocean air it's bringing in all the clouds we have seen. now the other thing since the easterlily wind is going to continue, coastal flood advisories in effect until noon. you see that for southern parts of baltimore county. then also along the coast in delaware, that's one part of this easterlily wind. the other part, we said the

clouds, they have been around most of the day. overnight we're going to see the fog form once again and even some drizzle because of that easterlily wind. tomorrow afternoon, though, this pattern breaks up a little bit however it's only breaking up because another storm is moving our way with a new round of clouds. a mix of sunshine in the afternoon but clouds take over again tomorrow night. the chance for this showers and thunderstorms to follow. that's going to hold off. this front is going to come through tuesday into wednesday. as soon as it starts to pull out of here, another storm just down to our south is going to take a similar track up the coast with another chance for scattered showers and storms through thursday. between tuesday to thursday, pretty descent chance to get measurable rain around here and we really do need it. we'll keep you up to date over the next couple of days. winds to the southeast tomorrow. tonight, fog out there, drizzle forming. 54 for our low and then tomorrow we're going up to 70. very cool for that average once
