condemning for his immediate release. new revelations tonight about the man accused of opening fire inside a howard county church. wjz is live, mike hellgren has more on the suspected gunman's troubles and whether he slipped through the cracks, mike. >> the gun that we just learned was registered to the homeless man blamed for all of this. he was going through what one friend described as a downward spiral. the murders of two women inside an episcopal church has shaken elequit city. he became angry when told to limit his frequent visits to a

food bank. he then became angry killing two. cherise wilson's fiance has known jones since he was a child. >> he didn't think he would go that far. they're saying that it was over food. but he doesn't believe, he thinks it was more deeper frankly. >> reporter: she says his world collapsed several years ago after a rocky divorce and trouble in what had been a successful landscaping business. >> it had been thriving very well. then everything started going downhill. you know everybody has ups and downs. >> reporter: they believe he simply went into the church and saw anyone he saw. church officials say they will continue to reach out. >> they always give the benefit of the doubt. how this individual ended up with a firearm when we have some of the strictest gun laws here in maryland is shocking and i certainly hope that the howard county police get to the bottom of that. >> reporter: again the gun was

registered to mr. jones. the bishop of maryland say they are praying for him but say that a lot of people are angry with the society and can't keep guns from unstable people, and these are his words. mike hellgren, wjz news. new at 6:00 you will hear from police on this mobile crisis unit they use to deescalate situations like this. two high school seniors die in a high school accident after their prom. police say brendan coliflower lost control of his car and hit a tree. he died along with his passenger samantha kelly. the couple seen on the picture in the left were stand out athletes and honor roll students: friends say they crashed on the way home from senior prom in west virginia. political consultant julian tinsley are firing back for problems problems from

robocalls. derek valcourt has the story. >> reporter: the blame for the legal problems with that robocall should fall on julius. julius has been told jurors he wrote the election call in three minutes while having lunch with his granddaughter at mcdonalds. >> the call was not put together to get people not to go vote. >> we're okay, relax. everything is fine. the only thing left is to watch it on tv tonight. >> reporter: henson told jurors he was uninstructed by paul shorick not to release the authority line it was paid for by the ehrlich campaign. he everyone tried to get a

second opinion from greg massoni. >> when i read the message, he said he liked the call and i said you do you need a tag for this call. he said i don't need a call. >> he says you never had that conversation and that he essentially assumed you would put that tag line on there. >> the reason why that doesn't measure up to the truth is because he got the test call. he heard the test call. masonni heard the test call and there was no tag on it. if that call was incorrect he had an opportunity to say, wait a minute. let me put an authority line on this call. nobody in that campaign did that. >> reporter: the jury was allowed to go home early today after one of the jurors fell asleep during henson's testimony. henson's says he's going to try to force sherick to testify in

this case. and they say sherick will use his fifth amendment and choose not to testify. >> we'll continue to follow it, derek. thank you. and paul shorick was sentenced to one month of home detention and 500 hours of community service when he was convicted. the seafood company says it will cut 100 jobs when it closes it's facility. phillips says it will try to place workers in other jobs including positions at the company's restaurants. the cloudy weather continues into our workweek. it is an overcast monday and we're looking for a chance of some showers. wjz is live with the latest. let's start with bob turk. >> always glad, might as well

get some rain out of it. looks like we'll probably receive some rain or showers. right now it's pretty quiet around here. as you can see, and way out to the west, showers at the mountains but they're never going to make it here. tomorrow afternoon we will see showers and maybe a couple of thunderstorms popping up tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow night. we're still at 68 degrees. that's pretty much been a high for today. which is just a few degrees what it was below average. cumberland had a little sun, 72. 70 in oakland. dc and a little bit warm also easton at 72. ocean city only there at 60 degrees with winds off the ocean. bernadette woods in the outback to look at the updated rain numbers. >> wjz drought watch continues to track our rainfall totals. everyone though we've had rain clouds not a lot of rain coming out of those clouds. we're one week into that month and already the rainfall deficit is adding up for may. for the year we're just over 5-

68 degrees in central maryland. the complete forecast is just ahead. a search continues for a tennessee mother and her three daughters. >> reporter: police are searching for this man, 35-year- old adam mays as they investigate the disappearance of joanne bane and her daughters. they were last seen at their home which police searched again on sunday. mays was a family friend who's described as being like an uncle to the girls. calia, alexandria and adrienne. police found the several bodies in a home. police will not release if the bodies are children. >> let us know where the kids are. let us know where that mom is. >> reporter: police say joannne bane's husband was getting ready to move the family to

arizona when they all disappeared. police are still trying to determine if joanne went willingly. they warn that mays is armed and dangerous. >> it's pretty rough situation. >> reporter: investigators say mays could have changed his appearance or even cut or died the girl's hair to disguise their identity. there's a reward for any information that leads to the bane's family and mays arrest. >> mays was last seen in mississippi but also has tied to arizona, the texas, the carolinas and florida. if you're waiting for someone to get home from work. lets check on the roads at wjz traffic control. >> hi everyone, northbound 95 still some problems in that direction that's from russell

tonight because of the clouds. 68, 72 in easton. 70 in washington. a little warm out to the west with a little more sunshine. 72 in cumberland. showers and some thundershowers just to the southwest. might get to you in the next hour. 67 pax river. the upper temperatures in the upper 60s right now. if you're headed down to ocean city by memorial day maybe it'll be in the low 60s that's about it at this time of year. it just takes a long time to heat up. 66 rock hall, bell air and westminster, up to 67 and 68 in columbia. southeast winds there you see it right off the bay in the ocean. as long as you have the winds in that direction. it tends to keep temperatures down and humidity kind of up. but tomorrow the winds go back to the south. it should warm us up a bit.

but showers to the west of us. the showers to our north today but tomorrow we will see a lot of clouds. scattered showers, maybe a thundershower popping up in the afternoon. i think this front is going to slow down. so what will happen on wednesday once a front gets close to our region it's going to slow down. and another low pressure expected to develop at the coast. it's going to enhance chance of more rain and we need it still on wednesday. it should end sometime later when thursday, a little bit of chilly air comes in from the north. probably some sun and clouds to go up again in the afternoon. maybe a brief shower on thursday. but most of the day will be over on wednesday. gusting 25 knots it'll be a warmer breezy day. 62 is the bay temp. sunrise 5:59 a.m. mostly cloudy tonight. maybe a scattered sprinkle. tomorrow a lot of clouds, some sun and a few showers but in the afternoon maybe a couple of showers and the thunderstorm can develop and a better chance tomorrow night of some of those

it's 5:30, 68 degrees and mainly cloudy. good evening thank you for staying with eyewitness news. here are some of the stories people are talking about tonight. a security concern at vwi marshall airport. a man tries to bring a loaded gun through security. >> reporter: that loaded gun confiscated here over the weekend is symbolic of a greater problem. hundreds of people bringing guns and weapons through security checkpoints every year. sunday morning police were alerted to a discovery at vwi marshall this glock handgun loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition and two extra magazines. >> basically that he had forgotten he had the handgun. >> reporter: agents across the

country have seized thousands of weapons and guns. included two other handguns in baltimore. the tsa is testing new programs that losens screening practices on the elderly and frequent travelers at the same time. >> we always deserve the right to be random and unpredictable so terrorists cannot gain the system. >> reporter: but everyone the elderly have broken the rules. a nice was found hidden inside this walker. it's much smaller than the so called debrainer than the one found a week ago. the man with the glock is facing two charges, carrying a handgun and trying to bring a weapon through airport security. adam may, wjz news. >> the precheck program for frequent fliers isn't available in baltimore yet but it should be later this year. a man is found murdered at

the kentucky derby. >> detectives say they are still looking for suspects in the death of adam perez. police say that perez was killed as a result of injuries from a fight. they are currently asking witnesses to come forward with any information. police are stressing that perez's death had nothing to do with the kentucky derby. back to you. >> perez is a native of guatemala and lived at the track quarters for workers. growing anger over maryland's high court ruling for a pit bull attack. political reporter pat warren has more on the force behind the movement. the 2007 pit bull attack that mauled seleski is reaching high consequences. >> he grabbed my leg and started shaking me and dragging

me through the alley. >> i'm going to get and bit my leg. >> reporter: the maryland court of appeals on friday ruled that when an attack involves pit bulls it is no long ernesto prove that the particular pit bull or pit bulls are dangerous. clearing way for dominique's father to sue the landlord for negligence. it raises a question for watchdogs that now want the governor to intervene. >> i have just been overwhelmed from the response from people that are very upset about this ruling. >> reporter: the chair of votes for animals say they are eager for this issue to be brought up in the next special section. >> currently we have a one bite rule. that all gets one bite before they are determined to be dangerous. but what this law does is it says that pit bulls and pit bull mixes and any dog that any

jury might determine looks like a pit bull, might be a pit bull are immediately considered to be inherently dangerous and we feel like that is absolutely wrong. >> reporter: according to the humane society, maryland is the only state in the country that categoryically identifies pit bulls as a dangerous breed. i'm pat warren, now back to you on tv hill. >> thank you, pat. a spokesperson for the governor tells wjz they have received numerous calls and e-mails and are looking into the matter but the special session will focus on the state budget. the debate over similar sex marriage heats up as another member of the president's cabinet speaking out. erny duncan says he believes same-sex couples should be able to marry. this comes after vice president biden said he supports same-sex marriage. >> i'm absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marry

ripping through japan. more than 100 homes are damaged and it also knocked down telephone poles and heavily damaged cars and left customers without power. olympic organizizers are investigating a security breech. right now there's no way to verify the report. there's no foul play suspected in the death of a u.s. soldier in afghanistan. captain bruce clark collapsed during a skype video chat with his wife. she claims she saw a bullet hole in the closet behind him. but the army has ruled out a shooting because they were not able to find any bullet wounds in clark's body. investigators are now waiting on toxicology results to determine a cause of death. the stocks here in the u.s. aren't selling off as feared

five men charged with plotting to blow up a ridge in ohio enter a plea in court today. the men are facing three counts each after trying to detonate a fake bomb that was planted by an fbi informant. they will remain in jail until their next hearing. >> the final suspect in the hazing death of a drum major turns himself in. 11 band members are accused of beating robert champion during a hazing ritual in november. champion's death prompted the school to suspend all band
