denise has more. >> reporter: senator carl levin received a briefing from the defense department. levin says there was a failure to notify the chain of command promptly of the events that took place in the south american hotel room. the decision to keep the suspected people in columbia, and not send them immediately back to the u.s., is also being criticized. senator levin says the investigation was basically complete now and that the gap will be corrected. >> denise, thank you. a report is expected soon on whether 12 members of the military will be charged with misconduct. eight secret service members lost their jobs as a result of the scandal. >> reporter: forgiveness. offering to bury a homeless man. the church says douglas jones agency family has not yet -- jones' family has not yet decided whether to take the offer. they were fatally shot last week, before jones turned the gun on himself. in the hands of a jury.

closing arguments in the julius henson trial are now complete. now, a jury is deliberating. derek valcourt has more from the mitchell courthouse downtown, on the closely- watched robocall case. >> reporter: prosecutors tried to convince a jury that robocall breaks the law and flies in the face of fair elections. the defense says the consultant who wrote it was simply doing what his client wanted. >> reporter: with just hours left to go on election night of the 2010 rematch between democrat martin o'malley and republican bob ehrlich, 112,000 democrats and predominantly african american baltimore city and prince george's county, received this robocall, sent by ehrlich's political consultant, julius henson. >> i'm calling to let everyone know that governor o'malley and president obama have been successful. we're okay. relax. everything is fine. the only thing left is to watch it on tv tonight. >> this type of behavior is more than just a dirty trick or

politics as usual. >> reporter: the prosecutor says, that's election fraud. an illegal scheme by henson and ehrlich's campaign manager, to help ehrlich win by suppressing the african american vote. a separate jury already found schurick guilty. henson is hoping for better. >> the call was just to get people to go vote. >> reporter: henson says the call was reverse psychology. and is protected by the first amendment. and he said he was just doing what his client wanted when he left out the legally required line saying the robocall was paid for by the bob ehrlich campaign. >> reporter: the jury is still deliberating at this hour. they have four charges to consider against henson. we'll keep you posted. at the courthouse, derek valcourt, wjz eyewitness news. >> wjz is closely monitoring jury deliberations and will bring you the latest from the courtroom as soon as we receive it. the harford county sheriff's office is looking for

a suspect in a triple shooting around 8:00 last night. deputies responded last night for reports of shots fired. they found 43-year-old man and a 26-year-old man with bullet wounds. police later learned the 37- year-old gunshot victim was taken to the hospital by ambulance. all three victims are in stable condition. police are looking for the three suspects and a motive. maryland has a budget plan. today, after months of squabbling, governor martin o'malley, and senate president and house leader agree on tax hikes. gigi barnett is live in the newsroom with more on what happens next. >> reporter: the governor and the state's leading lawmakers have come up with a budget plan they expect to get approved during a three-day session, next-- special session, next week. the budget includes an income tax hike on people who make more than $100,000. the increases would affect about 16% of marylanders. the general assembly was not able to agree on a spending plan during the regular 90-day

session. triggering a doomsday budget, with $90 million in cuts. now, they argue a special session is not worth the cost to taxpayers, and the state should just accept the default budget. >> reporter: a special session would cost about $25,000 per day. hear from the governor and other leaders, coming up all new at 5:00 and 6:00. clouds dominated the sky for most of the day. but the sun is out now. and nick wolinda is getting ready for his inner harbor, high-wire stunt. you can see the wire is hooked up to a badge. barge. wjz is live with complete coverage. jessica kartalija has more on the latest on wolinda's last- minute preparations. >> reporter: so, kai, i'm not a meteorologist. but there is a little bit of a wind out here. but nick wolinda told me yesterday, that's not enough to phase him. he is ready to go. he said he is not nervous at all. he's just excited. in a little over an hour, he will start over at ripley -- the new site of ripley's believe it or not, which is set to open in june. and he will walk -- the walk

should take about 15 to 20 minutes. he will walk over on a high wire, to where we are standing. here's a preview. >> reporter: at the inner harbor, crews secure the wire, as nick wolinda prepares to walk over the inner harbor. for seven generations, the wolinda family has performed death-defying stunts. wolinda's walk today is a tribute to his great grandfather carl, who in 1973, walked over the harbor, on a rope between two cranes. now, at 100 feet above the harbor, nick will walk the length of a football field. >> this is very special because he had walked here. almost 40 years okay now. so it's always exciting to come back and recreate something that, you know, my great grandfather had done a while ago. >> reporter: wolinda tells me, it's the first time anyone has ever walked a high wire to a crane in the middle of water. his walk is to announce the opening of ripley's believe it or not, here in baltimore. >> i think it's going to be

amazing. pretty amazing. >> reporter: now, the crowds are already starting to gather. there's a major party planned on the constellation. people are going to be watching. again, it starts at 5:15. we'll stay out here and monitor the situation. we're so excited to see him. and guys, again, he says he's just excited to be here. back to you on tv hill. >> all right, jessica. thank you. complete coverage of wolinda's inner harbor stunt continues with meteorologist tim williams to see if the weather will cooperate. tim? >> well, mary, there are definitely showers around. and i know we talked to him of course. he does not go into thunder and lightning. and we don't expect for any to go into the area by the time he's ready to start his walk. take a look at first doppler radar. we will show you there is a lot of rain in our general area. we're talking around the perimeter of the state, moving in from the 70 corridor, out toward cumberland, heading into washington county. there is a lot of rain to our south. what we're concerned about, not necessarily that there will be rain over him directly.

but there could be rain starting to fill in, near the area, by the time he's ready to start his walk. as you see, it's all moving from the southwest to the northwest. and that's going to pretty much be the case. to the northeast, i should say. as the winds now are just around 10 miles per hour in much of the state. but as you see, nothing around the inner harbor right now. looks like the weather should cooperate. these storms moving in very slowly. we'll continue to keep you posted on what's going on with the weather forecast. for now, kai, back over to you. >> with everyone heading downtown to see wolinda's walk, there could be traffic tie-ups. let's check in on the roads with kristy breslin at wjz traffic control. >> we expect some traffic tie- ups in the city, especially along light street and president. but we'll keep you updated as the evening goes on. as far as 95 goes, if you're traveling on the northbound direction. we have an accident there, in the right tube, blocking all lanes. the delay, currently, is about 30 empties back -- 30 minutes back to caton avenue.

doppler radar. we are actually showing just a little bit of light drizzle down around martin luther king jr. boulevard. just to the west of the inner harbor. that area is going to see a little more of a shower move on through. but for the most part, bigger things. out to the west and down to the south. that is something we'll be watching over the next few hours. it's moving very slowly. in this direction. at least not with the heavier showers. right now, we're looking at temperatures, just around 74 degrees. and the temperatures are going to stay in the 70s for the most part. 72 now is our average high. 55 is your dew point. relative humidity. 55%. not a big gusty wind down at the inner harbor either. winds around the west/northwest. 29.sketch is your barometer reading. temperatures around the state, 61. 67 down on the shore. we have 72. patuxent river, nation's

it is 4:30. 74 degrees. and mostly cloudy in central maryland. hello. thanks for staying with eyewitness news. i'm denise koch. >> and i'm vic carter. here's what people are talking about. >> a possible break in the search for missing sisters from continuous tense. -- tennessee. police have just charged the suspect and his wife with murder. as teresa garcia reports, they have released video of that suspect, taken just days after the victims disappeared. >> reporter: investigators have released new video of 35-year- old adam mayes, captured by a security camera, paying for a drink at a convenience store in guntown, mississippi, on april 30th. that's three days after police say mayes kidnapped a tennessee mother and her three daughters. investigators say the suspect's wife and mother also played a role in the kidnapping. mayes' wife was charged with kidnapping tuesday. she told police, she drove

joanne bane and her three daughters to their home in mississippi. the suspect mother is charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping. the daughters were found last week in a shallow grave, behind the suspect's home in union county, mississippi. now, there's a massive around the clock search of the woods and back roads around that home. the fbi is optimistic that the two younger sisters, 12-year- old alexandria, and 8-year-old kileah are alive and with the fugitive. mayes was a family friend, who stayed at the baines' home on the 27th, to help will the family pack and move to arizona. gary baines said he woke up to find his wife, daughters, and mayes gone. investigators believe that mayess has changed his appearance and may have dyed the girls' hair to hide their appearance. >> now there say $50,000 reward

for any information that lead to the banees and mayes' arrest. dozens in charlotte. kai is live in the newsroom with more on what has the activist so angry. >> reporter: large crowds are protesting foreclosures, corporate taxes and financing. the demonstrations are take place as the banking company holds their annual shareholder meeting in charlotte, north carolina. inspired by the occupy wall street movement, demonstrators have been targeting shareholder meetings. during the meeting, bank of america stockholders approved an executive pay package. while all shares fail topaz. >> reporter: executive compensation has become a hot issue. after they rejected that company's pay plan. tsa agents in rhode island discover guns, hidden inside stuffed animals. terrell brown reports for wjz. after confiscating the guns, the father allowed a gun to get

on their plane. >> reporter: on monday, a routine search, turned into a major security scare. while screening a passenger's carry-on bags, tsa alleges found the hard -- agents found the hardware of a 40-caliber gun, a magazine, loaded with two rounds of ammunition. and a firing pin, all concealed within three stuffed animals, including a mickey mouse. >> the stuffed animals were in a carry-on bag. and the carry-on was going through normal screening procedures. >> reporter: the bag belonged to a 4-year-old boy, traveling with his father to detroit. tsa agents confiscated the items but let the man and boy get on the plane. >> the officers were comfortable allowing the father and son to continue on their flight. he indicated that he was unaware that they were there. the public was never in any danger. >> reporter: police believe neither father nor son knew they were carrying the weapon. and that a statement a spokesperson said, they believed this was related to an

ongoing domestic dispute. police believe the wife was trying to cause trouble for her husband. that said, some passengers weren't as forgiving. >> i think they dropped the ball by letting the fellow fly away. i really do. >> the names of the pair haven't been released. but there is an investigation to figure out how the gun parts were stuffed into the toy animals. authorities say if assembled, there could have been a loaded gun on an airplane. terrell brown, wjz eyewitness news. >> now, in a statement, the tsa says this incident shows that each after changes, the screening process for children 12 and under is still just as effective. >> ravens' outside linebacker, terrell suggs, undergoes successful surgery on his torn achilles tendon. he tore the tendon last month while conditioning outside of his home. in a statement, executive vice manager ozzy newsome said after, suggs will remain in

aided the women's liberation movement. he was 84 years old. a harrowing high-wire act is set to take place. wjz has more on nick wolinda's much-talked about tightrope walk. jessica? >> reporter: that's exactly right. ripley's believe it or not is behind this whole thing. they're trying to generate talk about their grand opening here at the light street pavilion in baltimore city. and that's why they're doing this. of course, nick wolinda, also starting his new show on discovery channel. he is going to be walking across the harbor, starting at light street pavilion, walking up. it's actually an upward, slanted staterope. out here, it's a football-field length. from our vantage point, it does not look that far. but trust me, i would not want to do it myself. walking all the way up here, then he'll be lowered onto this crane, to where we are on this, the constellation. poo this is so exciting. people have been coming in all day.

here's a live look at the inner harbor, where, as we have been telling you for a couple of days now, that nick wolinda is going to be walking across the high wire at the inner harbor. wjz, of course, will be bringing you the story live. other news. people are left stranded. strong storms cause a nearby river to swell. more torrential rain is expected in the next few days. in spite of the damage, it's considered by some to be beneficial because of the severe weather drought in the

area. a $17 million settlement is reached in the wrongful death of two hungarian students. attorneys say families of the victims will split $15 million and 18 surviving passengers will split $2 million. the surprise settlement comes just after two days of testimony in what was supposed to be a month-long federal trial. a tugboat-guided barge slammed into the amphibious duct boat on the delaware river in july 2010. well, the mother of trayvon martin, the young african american teenager killed by a neighborhood watchman in florida, three months ago, is in london today. and adam may is in the newsroom with more on what she's doing there. >> reporter: yes. this afternoon, martin's mother met with another woman who lost her son, doreen morris. she hugged as the family visited. the family decided to visit with laurens, after she wrote to them, expressing her support. martin's family also thanked

suv. in tonight's consumer watch, frequent flyer miles and rewards are becoming the latest cyber targets. consumers are losing thousands of dollars to clever schemes. >> ray trip to las vegas, after working long hours in the family auto repair shop, that was the dream for michael and katherine heinz. they went to cash in their travel points and found out somebody else had beat them to it. >> they disappeared. there was no charges on it. but our mileage disappeared. we had over 174,000, but then had just a little over 12,000 left. >> here's the bigger concern. there are a number of international schemes, targeting travel miles, popping up here in the u.s. more often. >> they can use these schemes to collect people's miles to buy tickets and then resell those tickets. some of the other things we've seen is where they'll just infect the computer with

banking mal wear and -- mal ware. and just steal monout of people -- steal money out of people's accounts directly. . >> he shows us how this works. >> you have a fake code here. >> reporter: international crooks are sending out millions of these fake travel alerts. they only need one response to make thousands fast. >> it's really a luck scenario, where you will happen to be traveling on this airline and they'll catch you at the right time. or it's an opportunity scenario, where people will just be curious and, well, i don't have a flight. i want to make sure i'm not charged for this. >> reporter: once someone responds, a cyber crook has everything they need to cash in. >> reporter: wow. after making call after call, the heinz were eventually able to get their miles restored. bill cosby would not be happy. a jello truck catches fire, burning hundreds of pounds of pudding. spoke filled the air in iowa. fire destroyed the trailer and

however. reisterstown had 94/100ths of an inch. northern sections of baltimore and harford county. three quarters of an inch. rain. second batch of rain to the south. this is what we're watching to come through the area tonight. a front actually to the west now. with showers and embedded thunder. not much really in the way of thunder. but low pressure here in north carolina is moving up that stalled front. so we got a pretty good shot. we'll get rain this evening until about midnight, before it begins to dry out. after midnight, some dryer air coming in. thursday, friday and saturday. most of sunday, looks really, really pleasant. temps in the low to mid70s with a lot of sunshine. by sunday night, there may be a shower in the area. west to northwest winds on the bay, up to 25 knots on the bay tomorrow. a little breezy. bay temp, about 62. tonight, showers tapering off after midnight. 54. it were, 70 degrees, sunshine and clouds. but a breezy afternoon. it will feel a little chilly, actually. >> okay. thank you, bob. still to come on eyewitness news.
