same-sex servants, religion servants focused on president obama's stance on same-sex marriage. just days after president obama announces his support for same- sex marriage, pastors and priests around maryland are taking to their own pulpits to have their voices heard. derek valcourt explains the president's comments has folks on both sides of this issue fired up. >> reporter: the president hopes it will help sway votes in his favor. when president obama announced that his position on same-sex

marriage has evolved. it angered some pastors. he is so upset he has told his members he will not support president obama. >> people get that this is about human dignity and i applaud the president for standing up for human dignity. >> reporter: and maryland will take center stage on the debate. they are now close to gathering the signatures needed. catholic church leaders say the president's remarks are helping get signatures for their side. >> in fact, i think it might be a call to action for people to really express what they believe. >> reporter: so far in every state where same-sex marriage has been on the ballot it has been rejected by voters, but same-sex supporters believe time is on their side.

>> i think things are definitely shifting in our direction here. >> reporter: majority of americans support same-sex marriage that includes most democrats, independents, catholics and nonreligious voters. >> reporter: many african american pastors say they will still support the president this november even though they may not agree with him on this one issue. derek valcourt, wjz eyewitness news. >> all right, derek, thank you so much. the president's announcement that he supports same-sex marriage comes after north carolina ban same-sex unions and wrote that into their state's constitution. fire officials say they found heavy smoke and fire in a repair shop then it spread to the roof of the building. fortunately no one was hurt and so far there's no word on the cause of the fire. police make an arrest in a deadly stabbing in northwest baltimore. it happened around 2:30 this

afternoon on hart heights terrace. a 30-year-old man was stabbed in the chest and later died in the hospital. a possible suspect is in custody being questioned by police right now. several baltimore neighborhoods are on edge tonight. investigators have just released new information about a string of daytime burglaries. >> reporter: in the north har tford area detectives are seeing a trend, home burglaries in the middle of day. >> it's terrible. this is a nice neighborhood. i didn't even know about all of this. thieves struck a home three times and twice on pioneer drive. tonight police are renewing their warning to stay safe. >> lock your doors, lock the windows when you're not at home but more importantly if you see anyone suspicious call police. >> reporter: now police are canvas neighborhoods and passing out safety booklets to

homeowners explains how thieves break in. it all starts with a knock at the door. >> they received no answer at the door, they will then go to the rear of the location and attempt to gain entry. >> never had any burglars or anything like that and now it's just -- >> reporter: neighbors say they are also starting to see more alarm sales men. >> somebody stopped bid about two days -- stopped by about two days ago to offer us security. >> reporter: gigi barnett, wjz news. >> anyone with information is asked to call police and tipsters will remain anonymous. this year 163 names were added to the fallen officer memorial. including william torbid. members of the department are expected to join torbid's family for a candle lit vigil

moment. a hotel catches fire in japan trapping and killing seven people. 13 guests were staying in the hotel in fukiyama city when the fire hit. the fire was just too fast, three other people were hurt and right now police are trying to fig krur out what sparked this faye -- figure out what sparked this fatal praise. - - f a tal blaze. flooding waters are hitting china. three people were killed when mud slides broke down a bridge they were crossing. a 10 -month-old baby started screaming and saved their minnesota family. her mother found hot ashes

falls from the ceiling into her baby's crib. that's when the mother realized the home was on fire and started waking everybody up. >> she had just started crawling, she had screamed to the corner of her crib and she started crying. >> none of those falling ashes hurt the little girl. the home did sustain serious damage. took quite a bit of lifting but the enterprise is now separated from its high flying escort. engineers worked to lift the jet. the enterprise hitch add ride on top of that jet to the big apple. next month enterprise will be moved to a thug boat and transported to its final destination. there's a couple of them scattered around the u.s. that's probably the closest one if you're headed down to d. c. but the intrepid museum is a

good time though. we have the clouds coming in. getting set up for the evening bar-b-ques. we had a sprinkle or two that's about it. owens mills it looks a little more threatening than it is. out to the northwest it changes. westminster a few more showers coming down. that was such a big thunderstorms it is weakening some what an moving off to the northeast. out in western maryland, there's a lot more with that came from. we're going to see that slow moving storm for the rest of the week. sunshine earlier today then the clouds came in and showers and thunderstorms coming out of those clouds. the winds though have turned around and warmed up nicely this afternoon. it is still 78 degrees outside in downtown baltimore. look at all after those 70s out there. we're going to be closer to that tomorrow, over all this

forecast, we're still pretty mild evening with the clouds around. here's that storm and you see it is a big one. it is still getting its act together. it's strengthening more as it comes our way. storms continue right into the day tomorrow and even into tuesday. take a look at this, this thing is barely moving. on wednesday still a chance for showers before this finally pulls out of here. over the next few days, we're still five inches below and the rainfall deficit and most of that has just come since march. so we do still need the rain out there. small craft advisory until 8:00 tonight. there's a chance for them again tomorrow with the winds out of the south once again, tonight, better showers and thunderstorms. tomorrow, going up to 71 degrees, more clouds around, scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. that continues right into tuesday. wednesday trying to get that storm out of here when it does
