safe harbor with a big weekend ahead, there's an intense focus on security downtown. while several incidents involving young people have raised concerns. good afternoon. the fall out from what witnesses describe as a flash mob robbery at a 711. mike hellgren has the latest on another situation. >> with a huge weekend ahead police are putting an extra focus on downtown security after some public and negative incidents. witnesses say dozens of rowdy young people stormed this 711 for free slurpie day and started stealing items from the store. >> they went in, started going everywhere and grabbing thingsment i saw them running out. they ran that way, that way. the guy was trying to catch them. >> the description is similar to a series of flash mob

robberies last year. while authorities there released video of that incident in the hopes the public would be able to identify the youth, baltimore city police have not done the same. it comes after publicity after a series of violent fights. after stabbings and out of control crowds shut down streets saint patrick's day weekend it out ranges many. >> it starts out home. >> where are the parents when they're running around? >> it was horrible. kids should know better. >> this this latest incident after some kids ran away a manager blocked the door to keep the rest from leaving. those kids forced their way through punching that store manager. police are also beefing up patrols downtown with 50 more officers and better cameras. >> according to the baltimore sun the mob was made up of

students in northeast baltimore city. the city has had more than its share of gun violence with two people dead and a number of others wounded. ron matz is live in the news room. >> reporter: seven people were shot in three incidents. first shooting happened around 6 o'clock in southwest baltimore. three people were shot during the a dispute over money. an hour later three others were shot. one died. another man was shot to death in north baltimore. so far no arrests have been made, city police trying to determine whether any of these shootings are linked. back to you. >> that brings the year homicide total to 80. exactly 33 years to the day

6-year-old etan patz disappeared, now a suspect is due in court because of that. >> sources tell cbs news the new jersey man accused of killing etan patz was taken to a hospital this morning and put on suicide watch. 51 year old pedro hernandez is expected to be arraigned today. police say he confessed to luring the young boy into a store where he was working, taking him into the basement and choking him to death. he said he put him in a garbage bag. >> there could be a sexual assault involved. whatever the driver was, he wasn't admitting to it yesterday. >> former deputy director of national intelligence john miller says hernandez's confession may not be enough to convict him. >> the jury wants the see evidence behind that and the

defense attorney will challenge it. >> police brought him back here to the scene of the crime, the store where he once worked is now a designer eyeglass shop. >> he was questioned and arrested after police received a tip. authorities say hernandez told relatives he killed a child in new york. he wants to know why he waited so long to tell his story, his brother-in-law. >> why didn't you confess years before instead of suffering for all these years. >> etan's parents are surprised and overwhelmed with the arrest. it's not known if they will appear at his arrangement today. >> etan's parents never moved and kept their phone number the same always hoping their son would someday come home or call them. 2,000 steel workers will be without jobs. rg steel says it
