understandablely, too heart broken to talk about the tragedy on camera. but they tell me their son refused to get into a car with anyone who had been drinking. >> 22-year-old matthew smiled so much he had earned the nickname smiles and cheese. >> he had a smile. >> just incredibly happy, touched so many people's lives. it's just a shame that we lost him. >> reporter: hundreds who knew the howard county native are grieving avenues he was struck and killed as he crossed coastal highway with a group of friends. >> he hateed drunk driving. he was walking across the street to catch a cab. >> reporter: police say after he was hit the drunk driver, 30- year-old, drove off. witnesses driving behind him followed his car until he was arrested. >> anybody that gets behind a

wheel after drinking, you know, is an idiot. we all do stupid things but to me that's the worst thing you could do, take someone else's life. >> reporter: he graduated in 2008 and was a student here at cal son university. now his family, his friends and his coworkers at meriweather post pavilion are left asking why someone so good would be taken so soon. >> mat would be the perfect angel. may be that's why god took him so soon. >> reporter: the accused drunk driver faces a number of charges, including homicide by vehicle and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. eyewitness news. thank you, derek. the 30-year-old suspect is from virginia. he is scheduled for his first

court hearing on july 5th. a 6 month old baby dies after she is violently shaken and now her father could be charged with her murder. he said he shook his baby. palmer was charged with attempted murder and child abuse. baby olivia has since died of her injuries. caught in the cross fire, a 10-year-old boy is shot. he is just one of 4 people in that shooting. new information tonight. >> baltimore city police were out in force where 4 people were shot on memorial day, including a 10-year-old. it's just a block from an elementary school. >> i just thank god my babies were not walking home from school. >> reporter: investigators say they do not believe he was

targeted. this mom heard the gunshots. >> it was a series of at least 5 or 6 and then immediately back another 4 to 6. now we have to worry about will our children be shot. >> does it make you angry? >> it makes me angry because it's life and it's young life. >> reporter: police say one of the bullets went right through that get boy's leg. >> that's crazy. no one ever thinks about when they shoot whose life they are going to take. >> reporter: and sadly it's nothing new. >> [ indiscernible ] >> reporter: the family of 12- year-old shawn johnson just marked the one year anniversary in baltimore. police believe someone mistook him for someone else. and caught in the cross fire in west baltimore. and the other victims of that east baltimore shooting were

cars. >> it was so hot you cannot touch it. >> this is not something i expected to have today, having airplane debris on my windshield. >> reporter: while the accident is still under investigation, it appears debris flew off an air canada flight. >> the family >> reporter: the plane bound for tokyo took off just after 2:00 with 318 passengers and 16 crew members on board. shortly after take off the jet lost one engine causing the plane to circle before landing at 3:53 p.m. >> we came in very fast. at least twice the normal speed. >> reporter: passenger jason flick was midair when he found out something was wrong. he snapped these pictures after he landed. >> we pulled off this special area, all kinds of fire crews.

it is still raining in many parts and it's 70 degrees in central maryland right now. police in miami say the man involved in a bizarre cannibal attack may have been under the influence of an lsd like drug called bath salts. 30-year-old eugene was killed after he was seen eating off the face of another naked man. the 65-year-old victim remains in critical condition. say he lost 75% of his face in the attack. international outrage as new details are emerging from the mass attack in syria. say went door to door slaughtering entire families. 1020 people were killed -- 108 people were killed, mostly

so there's still another possibility overnight. 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning you might wake up to some activity. 71 degrees. humidity way up there. winds very light. we did have a wind gust of about 30. barometer on the way back up, 64 in oakland with the rain earlier today. 69 easton, pax river not a drop of rain yet. still 79 degrees. and clear skies in ocean city. you will probably get your rain at 2:00, 3:00, 4:00 in the morning. mid upper 60s to the low 70s. the rain has a little bit of fog forming as well. very little winds and with all that rain good chance of fog. a little more than 3/4 of an inch of rain. some areas picked up an inch. to the west of us this front that jumped through the

appalachians did create our showers and thundershowers. this is the rain from beryl. see that line of showers. from new york state had a lot of activity. there's a skinny line of squalls now off to the east. it's pretty much done. one little batch of showers coming in late tonight, early in the morning and then we'll look at some dryer air to come in. there you see it, lower humidity, thursday, most of friday. friday night and saturday a chance of more showers. quick look at tropics, beryl moving off to the east, northeast and quickly heading out to sea. it will be moving so far from the region there will be no influence on us. so that's good news. south to west winds at 10 knots. bay temp around 76. tonight, still some showers for a little while. maybe some thunder later.
