breaking news. a man with a gun is spotted on the umbc campus. the latest on the intense search there. >> here's what people will be talking about today. right now police are looking for a man seen with a gun on the university of maryland baltimore county campus. mike schuh is live on the campus with the latest on the search for that man. >> reporter: good afternoon. let me take you back. it's just after 5 o'clock in the morning. a man and a woman, both students, are in a parking lot talking. the woman calls 911 after the man displays a handgun while sitting in his car. campus and county police respond and search for the student with the gun who fled. here is the campus police chief mark sparks. >> the baltimore county police department and our officers did an extensive search of the area.

we were unable to locate a subject at that time. subsequent to that, we have searched all of the resident halls on a room by room, building by building basis and have not located the person. >> reporter: back now live looking at pictures. the campus is relatively back to normal. they are still searching for the man. earlier this morning by mass text students were notified about the incident and then updated through out the morning that the campus was not closed. some students complained. considering the gun was found, the texts were more alarming than informative. they know who the student is. he's from the md hit drama area. -- he's from the maryland area. it is illegal to have a gun on a college campus here in the state of maryland. the chief tells me that once they find this young man he will be facing charges. reporting live at umbc, mike

schuh. back to you. >> thank you . wjz will stay on the story and have complete coverage at 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00. it was early this morning a student saw another student she knows holding a gun inside a car. that student left on foot. police search ed the area. they've recovered the gun and towed away the car. they are still lookingfor the student and -- looking for the student and interviewing the other student who saw the gun. activities back to normal. a man is behind bars after human body parts were found inside the town home he shared with his missing house mate. ron matz is live in the news room with the latest on this. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon. deputies found the remains inside the home in joppatowne yesterday. the house belongeded to a man who went missing on friday. 21-year-old alexander kinyua was arrested and charged with first degree murder.

kinyua is sate to have a bail review an hour from now. don, back to you. >> the state medical examiner's office is working to identify the remains. a woman is found tied up in a hotel room of a baseball player. police say a man had knocked on the door, identified himself as a maintenance worker and tied the woman up and ransacked the room. chapter man was not in the room at the time. a family is mourning the loss of a marine killed in afghanistan. 22-year-old julian chase died monday. he's the 4th service member from maryland killed this year and the 3rd to die in afghanistan. united nations officials are warning syria it's on the brink of a civil war after two mas cures in a week and a week of

it's sunny and 70 in central maryland right now. the complete forecast is still coming up. the city of seattle remains on edge this afternoon following a shooting rampage there that left six people dead, including the man with the gun. the man shot and killed four people inside a cafe then killed a woman during a carjacking before shooting himself. no word on a motive for the attack. that brought the number of homicides so far this year to 21 in seattle. that's the total for

all of last year. the rutgers student who used a web cam to spy on his gay roommate is headed to jail today. in march a jury found 20-year-old dharun ravi guilty of 15 criminal charges, including invasion of privacy. his roommate committed suicide. his 30 day sentence starts today. prosecutors try to extend it. he's been sentenced to 300 hours of community service. the mayor of new york city has a plan to fight obesity. he wants to ban the sale of medium and large sodas in his city. the band would prohibit the sale of drinks larger than 16 ounces. it would take effect in march. just moments ago the first private capsule to doc at the international space station returned to earth.

all the new numbers just hit the computer there. we're now out of the low 70s into the mid 70s. a beautiful day in progress of almost a perfect late spring day. now we have to start talking about our next bit of weather moving into the mid atlantic. let's take a look at the graphic i have for you. it's in the upper 70s at tv hill. and -- hill and generally around the metro. it's going to be a real interesting 24 hours as we'll start to see some clouds enter the region and then we're going to be talking about a big rain moving our way. this area of low pressure has tapped into some moisture has it's been

maturing out over the eastern plain states, the western ohio valley, if you will. let's take a look at this on first warning doppler weather radar. that's quite a slug of moisture. we're looking at not only showers by thunderstorms around chicago moving through illinois. this is all going to be moving in an eastern direction. right now we're thinking rather quickly. clear skies in the area right now. you look at the computer model and you can see there's a bunch of rain moving our way. that low is going to drag a cold frovent through the moe troe -- front through the metro and offshore. we're going to see the temperatures get below normal. were going for a high of 83 today. over the weekend, we are probably to be in the mid 70s. 62 partly cloudy over night. tomorrow there's that rain. i think the timing of rain, heavy at times and

today's health watch. a new study in the medical journal finds giving children sink cuts the rink treatment will fail by 40%. it can reduce infantd-- infant death. body odors change as a person gets older. a study finds people can identify each other's ages by smell. researchers in philadelphia took under arm samples from young, middle ages and elderly people. participates were able to guess the age group according to the odor they smelled. they say the smell from older people was less intense than from the younger ones. be sure to check back in
