stocks are slumping. a major sell off to end the week. what's spooking investors. here is what people are talking about and watching closely this noon. stocks are dropping following the release of the may jobs report. wall street is reacting to a worse than expected unemployment report. the dow is down more than 200 points. the nasdaq and s and p are down. only 69,000 jobs were created. that's the fewest number in a year. >> u.s. employers added just 69,000 jobs in may, less than half expected. stocks plumited more than 200 points in early trading, reflecting investors doubts about the strength of the economic recovery. >> it's not as good as it's

been portrayed to be. >> even more bad news, the government says about 50,000 fewer jobs were created in march and april than first thought. >> you can spin a number any way. you can't change the reality of the fact that there are an awful lot of people out there hurting. >> the unemployment rate, which economists had expected to stay flat rose. 28-year-old meghan van lost her job. she's been on more than 50 interviews but can't find work. >> it's frustrating when you think you do well and then you don't get it. >> she's decided to stop looking. she's changing careers and starting her own business, helping companies become more energy i efficient. >> i was -- emergency energy --

energy i efficient. >> like many workers she's trying a new strategy in a sub born difficult job market. >> job gains were weak across the board in may with the private sector adding only 82,000 position. 28,000 construction jobs were cut while manufacturing added 12,000 jobs. john edwards days of sitting in a federal courtroom appear over. prosecutors will not ask for a new trial. the former candidate's trial has ended in a mistrial. jurors couldn't agree whether money was gifts or taken from his campaign money. now the case of cannibalism that's making head lines. a man telling police he dismembered a family friend and ate some of he has body parts. mike schuh has

more on the confession. >> reporter: good afternoon. new court documents show exactly what happened inside that town home in joppatowne. >> behind this door a house of horrors. police say 21-year-old alexander kinyua confessed to eating the heart and parts of the brain of a missing man. detectives say the suspect's brother found body parts hidden inside tins in the basement. >> human remains, specifically a head and hands were recover covered on the main floor. >> they belong to 27-year-old kujoe bonsafo agyei-kodie, a family friend living at the house. the rest of his body was found in a church dumpster. two days before the murder, kinyua attacked another student. >> i heard it was a ran dam attack on -- random attack on a student. he was just waking up the stair -- walking up the stairs. >> that student had a skull

fracture. he had a drastic change after he was kicked out of the rotc. >> i heard he was out of the ordinary at times. >> the victim held several masters degrees. he lived with the kinyua family for 6 months. >> very scare are ri knowing it's -- scary knowing it's so close to home. >> reporter: police can't say why the man did what he did but the fbi has been called in. don, back to you. >> he is charged with first degree murder and has been denied bail. a woman runs over five children, now one of them has died. the tragic accident happened at a home. >> lady was in the vehicle, backed up, five children were struck. the vehicle continued and lodged into the garage that's in the rear portion of the house. >> the children's ages range

from 1 to 11. they were rushed to hospitals with injuries ranging from serious to critical. now an 8-year-old has died this morning. it was her mother who was the driver. it is unknown if she was the mother of any or all the other four children. there's currently no charges. campus police are still questioning the student who brought what appeared to be a weapon to umbc, something that set off an intense search and caused the university to send out a text alert warning. a female student says the male student showed her the gun. the gun was only a starter pistol that only fires blanks. no one was hurt. it's not clear if charges will be filed in that case. baltimore city police and those at the community college are looking for a man who attacked a campus police officer. it happened wednesday. the officer was retrieving something from the trunk of her car, she was hit by the man who took off on foot. a man is behind bars charged

with committing crimes at two maryland rest stops. ron matz is in the back of the eyewitness news room with details on this. >> reporter: 28-year-old bryan williams is accused of video taping boys using the bathroom. the videos police found depict 11 unidentified boys. they're asking any other possible victims or witnesses to come forward. williams drives a gray hyundai with a pennsylvania license plate. back to you. >> william s is free on bond awaiting trial. the first day of june is turning out to be quite gloomy. let's take a live look outside. skies are over cast. we had some rain this morning. does that mean we're going to have some more? we have complete weather coverage with marty bass. good afternoon. >> hi , everybody. let's go to the doppler. we have shower activity in the area. what i want to show you is not this

it's 74 at tv hill. there's some rain around in central maryland. the complete forecast is still coming up. they are calling on the syrian president to implement a un peace plan. any and all efforts to end the violence have been unsecond unsuck -- unsuck he saysful. they say -- unsuccessful. half a dozen iraq people are dead. bombs went off across the city. seven people are dead, hundreds more wounded. it is unclear who was behind him or if the attacks were coordinated. in this country one of the biggest naming in boxing is heading to jail today.
