we're closely watching a very active storm system bringing dangerous weather throughout the season. some areas are being flooded, you're looking at the scene near demaskus. warnings remain in effect for several counties. let's go to bob turk, he's tracking the storms. >> luckily we've had no reports of funnel clouds reaching the ground. in other words we've had no reports of tornadoes. we've had one report of a tornadoes one in demaskus and one in virginia. right across the baltimore region we have a sell across the baltimore city. pretty much covering the beltway north and west of downtown and over northwest part of the baltimore. southeast it's pretty quiet. there are other areas that are pretty heavy. pg county area that tornado warning also in effect for the next 15 minutes for the area
5:01 pm
east of college park and crofton area. that's another very, very strong cell. other activity around the fredrick area very well. they've already had flooding reported out there. this particularly a batch of storms creating heavy rain as well. no warning expect for the flooding that's going on in that region. but it's moving up to fredrick, northern sections of fredrick county will be affected over the next 20 to 40 minutes. southeast of baltimore, lighter rain. really not much is another cell just popped up around the aberdine and grays area. pretty light heading toward cecil county. looks like the thought not a severe system. the one in the city now does have a potential to create very, very strong gusty winds, damaging wind and hail. so we'll be watching that. that warning just cancelled but it's still an effective storm. they're capable of creating damage as we continue to track
5:02 pm
it to the north. i know with the east moving through north sections of the city. the áf -- over on northern park. you're going to run into that cell, you're going to see very, very heavy rain. to about townsend nothing with the affected by that particular cell. tonight there's another risk or squall line moving through the area. still has to move through the region. this is all ahead of that cold front and unfortunately we may see more severe weather. our first warning weather continues with megan mccorkel. she has been driving for the last hour to find damage and driving, what can you tell us about the conditions there. >> reporter: it's very been slow going. we are head into the town of

leesburg. we've been trying to get there. we were on 140 west. we've been on that road for a while and it is bumper to bumper trying to get into leesburg. we had heard reports of multiple trees down. we heard about flooding in that area. we actually got off of 140 and we're trying to get into town another way. because everything is stopped. bumper to bumper there. we heard that there is flooding on 140 and 97. and that's probably the reason why the traffic is so backed up at this point. we are noticing ponding on the road, it isn't raining right now. we're trying to work our way toward where viewers have reported there was damage to us. the áf we're seeing water on the road. one thing that shows you a storm has gone through a lot of neighbors are outside. seems like notes about the storm. we heard that the skies were just black when it came through. the winds were incredibly intense. we're pulling up to a stop
5:04 pm
right now. some of the stoplights here are actually out. police are on the road and directing area because a lot of these lights in busy stops are out. schools kept students in class for an few extra hours. they kept them in interior hall ways to protect them from the storms as the tornado warning went through. it was about 4:30 that carroll county. we will continue to monitor the situation. >> and the storms have passed through there? >> i heard there were extra warnings and people saying storms are coming through and right now it is very bright where we are. you can't even see any black skies. too far away, we've been monitoring the situation around us. almost looks like the sun is trying to peak at this time.
5:05 pm
>> for a while any way, thank you megan mccorkel in leesburg, driving any way. let's go to christie bresland who's tracking traffic. >> a lot of activity out there. let's take a live look right now at the situation on northbound 95, chopper 13 out over that situation. there was a vehicle that caught fire and did spin out of control. delays now are just solid. the flames are definitely flairing there. delays are solid out to white marsh boulevard. it's also very heavy in that southbound direction. if you are traveling in that area expect delays well back to mountain road. we will continue to keep you up to date on that. plenty of traffic right there. as it's going to be at least 45 minutes to go through. as far as the rest of the region goes. if you are traveling 17 westbound and megan has said, bumper to bumper in that

region. a lot of congestion on the beltway as well. it wasn't just in the region. on the insider side of the look, another the áf back up around the bell air road. and 51 minutes on the outer look over to baltimore national pike. so we will continue to keep you up to date, especially the crash on 95. back over to you. >> first warning weather coverage continues. vic is in the newsroom with incredible weather pictures from around the area. >> before we get to those pictures, we want to point out. we're setting right under a major storm cell right now. rain is pouring down like crazy. these are pictures outside of our studio. trees are blowing back and forth. at times looks like the water and rain is coming down at an angle. it's pretty nasty. right here on television hill, you can only imagine what it was like for the people around the areas who have been talking about us and calling us and
5:07 pm
giving us more information. we're getting tons of pictures from carrol county tonight. showing extremely dark clouds as powerful storms move through. strong winds also knocking over a basketball hoop in one viewers driveway in mount erie as well. another sent us this frightening cloud formation. just outside washington, d.c. where they are actually seeing strong storms off and on. of course we will continue to monitor your weather pictures from around maryland tonight. we will bring those to you as we get them. denise back to you. >> okay, vic thank you,. >> thank you, vick. now gigi barnett. we have gigi on the phone right now in cockysville, tell us what you're seeing right now. >> reporter: we're at an exxon station right at the corner. i've been talking to drivers but let me explain what i'm seeing personally. to the north of us looks like
5:08 pm
the skies are some what clearing. but if you turn and look south, it's black. you can see the weather pattern pretty much moveing in that direction. we were talking to some drivers earlier they told me everything from contemplating going out into this weather because they didn't know if they would make it home safely. all the way to people saying, weather is weather, i have to get home. on our way here we were due north on i83, the travel was going pretty well but we could still see many drivers being cautious, taking their time in getting where they had to go. it looks like right now a typical storm in this area. but what we've been hearing is the rumbling of thunder. we're seeing some lightning strikes. and that's why we're not going live because if we did that at
5:09 pm
this point would put it in danger. i've been talking to some drivers that they say they haven't checked on the weather they just got off work. it looks pretty active out here. rain is some what light. as i mentioned we're still seeing and hearing the thunder and just trying to steer clear and staying out of this. at this point. back to you on tv hill. >> thank you gigi barnett reporting live from the storm. gigi said that it looked active out there where she's at. it looks active here. >> that's right, right here on tv hill, that's northern sections of baltimore city. winds are gusting up to 30, 35 miles per hour. you can clearly see that warning the tornado warning for the city and baltimore county and howard county has been allowed to be expired which is good news. but we still have at least for the next five minutes the cell that's moving to the dc area
5:10 pm
and western portions of pg county. officially they had another tornado warning until 5:15. there's a whole bunch of stuff over on college park to buoy. through southeast dc. that's going to head right toward the airport. around the city now that's the cell that's over us right now. it's moving pretty much up to the north and northeast and currently moving through the city. there it is. northwest baltimore. right toward the east sections, the beltway. jacksonville, cocky sville area. this one over the city pretty much over the top of city hill. eventually going to get out to you folks in eastern baltimore county and bell air area. the rest of the area pouring pretty heavy stuff. particularly around the fredricks area and portions of washington county. once again we keep tracking the radar for you.

5:25 pm
in west virginia. now the only hope i have is, because we've had these storms kind of stabilizing the atmosphere it's possible that when this line getting to us later on tonight may not be quite as strong as was earlier. just getting a new report in. okay let's see what we have here. tornado warning for north eastern pg county. and central maryland southeast maryland county. that's a new one just issued. this one going to include areas of odenton area and millage road, seventh and grass lake. that's in effect moving southeast at 38 miles per hour. there's the cell right through there. kind of broken up, it's kind of hard to see it. it's moving toward that general area. once again another tornado warning. take shelter in that area. crofton area you're talking howard county region. ford mead, millersville, seven, that area down there.
