this is wjz-tv, wjz-hd and wjz.com, baltimore. from the city to the counties to your neighborhood, now is complete coverage. it's wjz, maryland's news station. >> tornado touchdown. destructive storms descend on maryland. >> it was panic. it was just panic. >> the fearful funnel clouds and the major damage tonight. >> hello, i'm denise koch. >> and i'm vic carter. here's what people are talking about tonight. >> weather struck maryland leaving behind a path of destruction. the national weather service confirmed one tornado touchdown tonight. this is a picture of the twister near the v.w.i. marshal airport. we're told there's no major damage there. wjz has been all over maryland with the serious storms. meghan mccorkell is just back

from carroll county live with the damage. gigi barnett reports from hartford county and bob turk is tracking radar from the first warning weather center and pat warren joining us with pictures you sent all over the area. let's start with meghan mccorkell. she's live with us tonight. meghan? >> reporter: denise, this is pretty much what it looks like all over the region. take a look at this massive tree that just fell down. the power of this storm is just amazing and fell across our area. driving rain and frightening wind. >> the trees were in front of the house, bending over. >> reporter: doug and his wife were inside their home when a 90-foot tree smashed through the roof, nearly hitting them. >> it was panic. it was just a panic. my wife screaming, trying to find the cats. water was seeping down into the

family room. >> reporter: the tree tore through the roof making the room unlivable. this family wasn't alone. one local tree service company said within two hours after the storm, they already received 50 phone calls. >> i was like, oh my god. >> reporter: some carroll county students found themselves in the middle of the bus storm. >> a bus driver took the students back to the school. >> everybody was scared and some were crying. >> reporter: schools that hadn't yet been dismissed sheltered them from the storm. >> we all went into this little room and put our heads down in a corner. >> i was shocked and i was really scared because they hadn't like, done this before. >> reporter: shocked at the power of the storm as it came through. and if this is what your front yard looks like, you might need a lot of patience. that tree service company i spoke with said it could take

several days for them to get to everybody. reporting live, meghan mccorkell, wjz eyewitness news. >> meghan, thank you. first warning weather coverage continues with gigi barnett. she shows us some of the worst damage and some of the hardest scenarios. >> reporter: this went into effect at 6:00 p.m. a mere 20 minutes later, they received the 9-1-1 calls pleading for help. in baltimore county, this family said the storm through their street moved fast. >> it took a mobile home, flipped it on its hood and went through ten cars. >> were some were at home. >> we were in the room and the lighting started flickering. >> reporter: others were blocked by traffic and police. >> we weren't allowed in the neighborhood for a while.

>> reporter: two trampolines were in her front yard. one was from yards away. neighbors switched generators, snapped powerlines leaving them in the dark and stores were blacked out, blocking the start of the night shift business. rushed two people to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. and now with the possibility of more storms, rescue crews said they're not in the clear just yet. >> these storms are dangerous. they come up with the warning. >> reporter: several down power lines. bge is in the area assessing the damage. rescue workers want to have it by midday tomorrow, but by the looks of things, it may take longer. >> in addition to the two people rushed to the hospital, harper county officials say other people were hurt, but

refused treatment. >> in the washington, d.c. area, some dramatic rescues on plummet road. the powerful line of storms rolled through montgomery county. this is the scene on clarksburg road. another driver underestimated the danger. >> it went from 3 feet to 5 1/2 feet just like that. >> his vehicle suddenly became submerged in the water, forcing him to swim to safety. another abandoned the flipped suv in the flood. an alarming sight for drivers as they spotted funnel clouds moving through college park. a similar scene in sterling, virginia, just outside these scenes. and of course, bob turk has been tracking the storms all day, all night. he's here with a look. bob? >> it's almost over in the central area, but we have

pretty good rain. in the city, that's where the end of the rain is. it's west of westminster and west of d.c., all moving off to the east and we'll take a quick look. heavy on the eastern shores with heavy activity. in the city, we have heavy shower activity. as far as the watching and advisories, they just canceled the tornado watch west of the region and continues at 2:00 a.m. for baltimore area officially with activity going on over there. let's go back to earlier this afternoon, with strong stuff going through. we had numerous tornado advisories and tornadoes out. we had one out in portions of allegheny county, baltimore county. just all over, from one to the next. finally, the last line moving through. by 10:00, we expect some end to

on deer park road in carroll county sent me aaron mills. also sent this that snapped on a van. found hailstorms captured by kate laou and again, down towards seminary avenue in samodium. another possible funnel cloud in ferndale. there's a lot more scenes like that. we'll spend least part of the weekend cleaning up. back to you, vic. >> we want to see your pictures. you can see other pictures of the storm damage right on the home page at wjz.com. well, it will be a busy night for bge crews trying to restore power to victims of the storm. howard county is the hardest

wjz is tracking severe storms, looking for a tornado. you're looking at a possible tornado, one of our viewers captured this in carroll county. meghan mccorkell is continuing the first warning weather coverage. she has more on the extensive damage this wicked weather is causing. meghan? >> reporter: this is in our

front yard. you can see trees down just about everywhere. we want to show you what's going on in some other areas. take a look at this video here shot in townsend. a tree just crashed into a garage on club lane. back in northeast baltimore, another problem, heavy flooding just flowing drivers down. you see several people trying to go down and others are turning around. you never know how deep the water is. in fact, if authorities say if you don't have to go out in this tonight, just stay home. meghan mccorkell, wjz eyewitness news. >> thank you, meghan. the latest on where the storms

are now coming up in just a few moments. the weather isn't the only thing causing problems for commuters. this is on route 152 that brought traffic to a standstill. you can see the burnt out truck. there were no reports of injuries. tonight, we're learning more details about the university student who admits who killed his roommate and ate his brain and heart. >> reporter: this is 21 year old alexander. he promoted the internet radio show, warrior syndicate. these are for those in the clan- based society. >> he admitted to killing a missing person and cutting him up with a knife. >> reporter: 37 year old cujo

was reported missing. told police he dismembered the body and then ate parts of his brain and body. he posted dark about human sacrifice, dark minds and death cult. students in his dorm were shocked. >> this was a guy who stayed to himself. i had a couple of encounters with him, but for the most part, he was pretty normal, i guess. >> reporter: he attacked another student with a baseball bat. he was acting strange since january when he was thrown out of the rotc program. >> i heard he may have been out of the ordinary at times. >> reporter: more disturbing thoughts on a twitter page on the baltimore sun. judgment day is here and the order is chaos, he wrote.

messages indicating he may have been on the brink. meghan mccorkell, wjz eyewitness news. >> currently being held without bail on first-degree murder charges. police charged the umbc student who tested off yesterday's gun scare on cam bus. andrew caliche. a woman reported seeing the man with a gun. george zimmerman is to be back in jail within 48 hours. the attorney called it an innocent misunderstanding and hopes to have his bond back in a week. the installation is scheduled for a few days. all five will be in school and

will bring the speed cameras in the county up to 22. once they are activated, violators will get warnings for the first 30 days and after that, $40 tickets will be issued. we're tracking the storms. let's get to bob in the weather center. bob? >> they ended the rain just end of columbia. that's the steady rain. you can see the activity now moving off quickly to the east/northeast. decent rain over harford county and eastern sections of baltimore county. but to the west of us, it's done except for a few lingering showers. all the heavy stuff off to the east as you can clearly tell by the very beautiful display on our live hd doppler radar. temperaturewise, we're down to 61. the barometer beginning to go

back up again. dew point is up to 59 now. it was up to 70. the temperature is only 61. tomorrow is going to be a pretty decent day. in the eastern shore, the showers will continue for a while longer. in elkton, 71 and low 70s at last report. some winds beginning to pick up from the west/northwest. in most areas, we see the west/northwest area. the front, showing some pressure of the great lakes, with the front into the appalachian mountains. the first line of storms this afternoon and then the second line with the front gave us active weather. the squall line that moved through this evening. you can see off to the east, clear skies. there's a lot of cold air coming aloft in the next couple of days. even though it will basically

be sunnier and drier, things heat up and we'll see maybe a brief shower sunday afternoon, monday afternoon, maybe even tuesday afternoon. cooler and drier conditions, below normal for the most part as we head through the first two days of june. kind of unusual. a few days ago, for the most part, it will be cooler and more pleasant. in the bay, 15 knots and a small advisory. back up in the mid 70s. so for the rest of tonight, showers and storms are ending gradually, but see some sunshine and 63: partly sunny to mostly breezy. that's high. 78 on sunday. could be a brief shower, 75 on monday and 73 tuesday. could be a brief shower and the same thing for wednesday. temperatures are running a little cooler than they should the first week or so. denise? >> thank you, bob.

brian mattis is the o's scheduled starter. something never done. he throws a no-hitter. david freese. strikes out and 8-0 history making victory. quite an accomplishment when you consider santana sat out all of last season after shoulder surgery. it's the third no hitter pitch in the majors this season. the regional play in the baseball regionals at the university of virginia but when it rains at a college game, major difference. in college, the players are also the grounds crew, so the virginia players got wet and dirty in their attempt to pull the tarp through the rain. they're earning their scholarship with a little extra work. >> not as smooth as our guys. >> but they're not professionals. they're college. >> did they play? >> no, they didn't. despite the effort. around and round it goes.
