shocking new accusation zaz -- accusations against a man accused of killing and eating his roommate. >> it's a chilling tale. he calls the a ccused cannibal an acquaintance. he says he was highly intelligent if a bit strange. he was shocked by the attack. reporter: just days before police say alexander kinyua carved his roommate, kujoe bonsafo agyei-kodie, with a knife, and ate his heart and brain inside a home in hartford county, he was accused of attacking joshua cesar, beating him with a bat and standing over his body with a knife. he fractured his skull. >> i was able to turn because i

felt him. he had a black sheet over his head. that's the only thing i remember. he had a black sheet over his head. >> what's going through your mind? >> utter shock. >> reporter: seize --cesar believes he would have been the first victim of kinyau's cannibalism. >> whether or not my eyesight comes back, it's going to be on my mind the rest of my life. >> reporter: talking not only about the virginia tech massacre but also human sacrifice. according to published report, kinyau, who attended morgan and whose father taught there, had trouble on campus, expelled from punching a wall in january. one person called him a virginia tech waiting to happen. the university spokesman would not

go on camera but pointed out kinyau was not a student at the end of the attack in hartford county. >> how would you describe him? >> he was a little odd. he was strange. i couldn't have the slightest cool of what his motive was to attacking me. i wouldn't even be put in that situation if morgan did a better job of telling the general population of what type of persons there were around. >> cesar's lawyer also believes the university should have taken prior action. morgan state tells us security and safety of students is a priority for them. reporting live, mike hellgren, wjz eyewitness news. >> kinyau's family has declined comment. he's being held without bail. >> a man seriously hurt during maryland's recent tornado outbreak. >> keith matthews was pinned

underneath a concrete wall when a tornado demolished his auto shop. he suffered broken ribs and lost 30% of mobility in one of his legs. his other leg is broken. he's now recovering at a baltimore county rehabilitation center. if you want to help with his medical bills, you can donate at the bank. >> breaking information about the number of tornados we saw in maryland last week. bernadette? >> we've been continuing to tell you this is an ongoing investigation. as of today, two more tornados were added to the list. that brings our total to 12. the newest ones, simpsonville, howard county, and allegheny county. this ranges to the entire state. the all-time record for one day was 9 tornados in 1992. we've broken the all-time daily record. in addition to that, a record for june tornados with

games will open later this year. >> the u.s. army intelligent analyst accused of leaking documents is back in cort. manning is seeking dismissal of 10 of 24 charges he faces. the 24-year-old is accused of leaking documents to wiki leaks. his trial begins september 21st. if convicted he could face life in prison. >> a jury of 7 women and 5 men is chosen to hear the sex abuse case against jerry sandusky. what could be key evidence from one of the accusers is causing a stir in the courtroom for the defense. >> reporter: it took less than two days to select a jury for accused child predator, former penn state assistant coach, jerry sandusky. many of the jurors have ties to the university, including a professor, administrative employee, alumni, and season ticket holder. the defense is getting the local jury it fought

monday. >> life in prison if convicted. >> the chair man of the washington, d.c. city council is charged with bank fraud. brown is accused of over stating his bank income. former council member harry thomas, jr. admitted to stealing thousands in city funds. >> a strange smell is taking over the inner harbor. an environment group think its pinpointed the cause. monique griego has more on what could be causing the stinky problem. >> the smell is pretty hard to miss. the problem isn't just in the air. just take a look at what's in this water. reporter: the inner harbor over powered by trash, dead

fish, and an overwhelming odor. >> we smelled sewage. >> reporter: this week the mystery surrounding what's causing it widened after the wreaking got worse. >> we know what algae smells like. it smells horrible. but this smells like sewage it's different. >> reporter: bluewater baltimore say all signs point to a sewage leak or an overflow of the system possibly caused by last week's storm. boat crews noticed the problem saturday. >> basically it was just a field of gray water sitting on top of the harbor. >> reporter: one of the first thing that tipped the meyers off that sewage may be in the water is the appearance of these. they look like rocks but are actually balls of grease. when you crack them open, trust me, they stink. there are other signs. >> it's disgusting but tampon applicators, condoms. all sorts of things. >> reporter: they're testing

>> mostly sunny, 72 degrees in central maryland. annapolis police are looking for a man. >> an area not prone to crime -- >> i usually feel safe walking around. >> reporter: becomes the scene of a crime. a young woman walking home at 1:30 in the morning on may 19th is followed by a stranger who forces her in to the alley in historic

downtown annapolis. she tells police she is able to fight him off, but not before he sexually assaults her. police are released this surveillance video of a man running around the same time at the time of the attack. police want to determine if this man or anyone saw anything unusual. >> if anyone knows who this guy is, tell us who it might be. we're not breaking down doors. this is not a suspect at the time. it's a person of interest. we'd like to talk to him. >> reporter: police believe this was an isolated attack. it's also a reminder to be on guard. >> you have to be careful. there's danger everywhere. >> have to be careful and protect yourself. >> reporter: if you have information that leads to an arrest and indictment you may be eligible for a reward.

>> annapolis police say there were 5 forcible rapes and 2 attempted rapes reported in the city last year. a firefighter is injured helping a family escape from a house fire in prince george county. more than 90 firefighters were able to bring it under control. the family escaped to the balcony. a laddered truck was used to rescue them. the firefighter's injuries are not life-threatening. >> it was not easy being the first african american graduate of u.s. naval academy. the man who blazed that trail in 1949 was remembered. >> reporter: graduation packs many emotions at the naval academy. >> i'm definitely humbled by the experience, humbled by the history before me. i want to give thanks to everybody who made it possible for me to be here today. >> reporter: wesley brown, more than any other, was that person.

today at the academy's chapel, wesley brown was celebrated as the first african american to grad here in 1949. he died last months at the age of 85. >> as we pay tribute to the life of a guy who paved the way that made it possible for all of us to be here today. >> reporter: charles holden, wesley brown's trail blazing made it possible for him to travel in space and now run nasa. >> wesley brown showed us through the power of his example what it means to be a real american hero. >> reporter: wesley brown was subjected to racism and harassment on this campus. >> he said every single day i think of quitting but the next morning i changed my mind. aren't we lucky that he did? >> when i think of wesley brown and all the lives he touched, he left them all better. we thank you, wesley. we love you and you will be missed and forever

his sculptures in. >> reporter: local artist reggie taylor has launched a campaign to raise $100,000 to construct a sculpture called "be more." it would stand 9 feet tall and 50 feet long. >> i think our community needs to be more. i think there are lots of ways we can uplift the community. >> reporter: it would include the word be more in 30 different languages. >> one of the public pieces of art in baltimore city to not only welcome visitors in our city to be more, but also inspire people in our neighborhoods to be more. >> reporter: taylor wanted to talk about a project that inspired him when he was young. this mural made him realize how powerful public art can be. >> it was things like the life mural that brought me back to earth and made me think about my actions and made me think about my interactions.

>> a photo snapped by a traffic officer shows a child wearing a seatbelt and sitting next to a gas can strapped to the car seat. the mother said her son would wiggle out of the car seat. the mother has been cited for seatbelt violations and other violations. >> cheryl crow says she was diagnosed months ago with a benign brain tumor. >> reporter: cheryl crow isn't letting a brain tumor interrupt her nationwide tour. the 50-year-old revealed she had a fairly common type of noncancerous tumor. >> these are almost always benign tumors and rarely progress to anything beyond that. >> reporter: they grow from the tissue covering the brain. they're not in the brain itself.

crowe says she discovered the problem last month with memory problems. >> i personally think it's unlikely that the miningeal caused the memory loss. usually that's associate would a larger tumor. >> they account for 1/3rd of brain tumors. they're twice as common in women and usually occur in adults in their 40s and 50s. in the rare cases they do get big, they can cause headaches and seizures. that's when doctors consider removing them. crowe, who is a breast cancer survivor, is expected to undergo periodic brain scans to monitor the tumor. >> when anyone hears the word brain tumor they're going to be concerned. if you have to have a brain tumor, this is clearly the one to have. >> the grammy winner says she's
