>> among their goals, encourage 11 remaining states without distracted driving laws to end act the legislation and force it. the announcement came the day after a massachusetts jury convicted a teenager of motor vehicle homicide after a a fatal crash that happened while he was texting. it was considered a landmark in distracted driving cases. one crash survivor explained how another driver's distraction altered her life. >> i sustained a traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, neck, rib, hip injuries and some emotional stress too. she should have been focusing on the road but instead she was on her phone and hit me. >> the federal government found distracted driving counted for one in ten roadway fatalities in

minutes. it's because the shower was over bwi marshall. take a look at first warning doppler radar. there have been some widely scattered showers around. the one that triggered the most recent concern, a severe thunderstorm warning if washington county rolled through the area and dissipated. it was supposed to be in effect in this area until 4:30. showers rolled on out, they're now really down towards west virginia and on the edge of maryland. now the severe thunderstorm warning has been lifted. even that is not a concern. that will be what we're dealing with through the rest of this afternoon. here is your temperatures at bwi marshall. back up 8 degrows in 10 minute -- degrees in 10 minutes. it's steamy near the airport. calm winds around bwi marshall. temperatures 66 out towards oakland, 69 down on the shore, 81 dc, 69 elkin and most of those cooler readings as a

result of some light showers that moved through and cooled the area over the top of the reporting site. the rest of us still looking at temperatures in the 70s. 71 bel air and temperatures in the mid 70s across most of the rest of the state. calm winds in central maryland. a bit of a west wind at 12 miles an hour. that seems to be the strongest wind around dc. we're going the see a shift of the wind to the west and southwest. it's going to help usher in some warm air and we will take temperatures into the 80s and near 90s. the way it's playing out is the jet stream is finally starting to lift which is keeping all the shower activity up to our north. the system that we've been under for the last few days is finally starting to push offshore. with that jet lifting up it's going to allow for warm air to move in. high pressure stays in control of our forecast. we're going to be bringing in temperatures into the 80s and near 90 heading on into the weekend. with that, sunset today is at 8:32.
