aiding al-qaida by providing information to wikileaks. the government is taking steps to find and eliminate any leaks from within. >> whenever you have leaks, that puts the united states in a bad position. it risks lives. >> reporter: members of the committee, the judge is planning to fight leaks. yesterday, they appointed two u.s. attorneys to lead a criminal investigation into the releasing of classified details on the war on terror and other sensitive information. >> he's competent. he's qualified. he'll be focused. he has a good team of prosecutors he works with and i'm very happy. >> this week, president obama came under fire by conservatives that his campaign

banks. european leaders offered $125 billion aid package. this is the fourth and largest european country that agreed to accept emergency assistance. more fighting in syria killed women and children and others. this is the most intense violence since the uprising last march. drew has the latest from wjz. >> reporter: in the capital city of damascus, burned out buses lined the streets. they say this twelve-hour attack represents the worst violence in this area. syria in troops sheltered the southern city, with the uprising that erupted. they pointed out victims that

left at least 20 dead. united nations look in the farming village of kubare. they saw those loyal to the regime that executed 70 people including women and children. the spokeswoman said it's difficult to determine what happened and who is responsible. some of the evidence is gone including the bodies. >> the more time that's passed, the more difficult it is to verify. they're dead immediately. >> reporter: activists claim that more than 13,000 people are killed in syria since the uprising began months ago. drew, wjz eyewitness news. >> they have cease fire on international calls in syria, but russia said they'll never

agree to have u.n. forces to end the violence. thomas maroony escaped on kelso drive. he faces property crimes and a felony theft charge. they arrested without incident this morning. a man walked in east baltimore and was shot and killed. he opened fire, hitting a 19 year old man several times. the victim was rushed to the hospital and died of injury. so far, the police are not releasing his identity. if you have any information on the case, call homicide detectives in baltimore at 410- 396-2100. an suv crashes right into an office building in washington, d.c. and police say the driver did it on purpose. the suv went into the building's lobby and left last night. he was treated for minor injuries. the fbi does not believe the accident is related to

>> i hope you are getting a chance to enjoy the weather tonight. it's clear and 74 degrees in central maryland. tim williams will have the complete first warning weather forecast up in a few minutes. but first, serious flooding in the u.k. crews faced fast-rising waters. they needed boats and even helicopters to get to safety. three people suffered minor injuries in the flooding. crews continue to battle a massive wildfire in new mexico. lightning sparked this fire here on monday and it just keeps growing. officials say it's now 100 times the size of when it first started and it is still increasing. so far, it's burned 10,000 acres and destroyed between 10 and 20 structures. no injuries have been reported there in new mexico, luckily.

it's not just an usual for a lawsuit after a deadly drunk driving crash, but in one case in florida, the drunk driver is the one suing the victim's family. david pleaded guilty to dui manslaughter in a christmas in pasco county. three people were killed. he said he was driving much slower than the 86 miles an hour claimed by defense experts and said the other driver was the one that ran a red light. >> being impaired, despite having an injury, you recall that you were doing 58 miles per hour because you remember specifically looking at your speedometer; is that right? >> i remember everything. i thought about it every day for four and a half years. >> this crash killed a mother, daughter, the husband. he's currently serving a twelve-

year prison sentence. transit workers go beyond the call of duty rescuing a stuffed animal from the tracks. a worker stopped the train to get the bunny off the tracks. the worker is excited when they called dispatch and were able to get the bunny out of there because it was squished. they call it a summer slide. it's a learning slump when school is out for summer break. in tonight's school watch report, gigi barnett reports how a program here in baltimore could help students stay sharp. >> reporter: the neighborhood maps are all drawn. volunteers are ready to go. that's because the city has a message about the super summer program. this weekend, the word is getting out. door to door, face to face. >> this is the information and

ocean city. if you are down there now, you picked a great weekend to be there. we have mid 70s around the rest of the state. calm winds right now at bwi marshall, but we have a west/southwesterly wind to help bring in the warm air around the high pressure. tapping into the warm air and the west and southwest, our neighbors, and 82. our neighbors have been pretty much running where we are or 5 degrees above, so it's really no drastic change anywhere around where this high is dominating and you can see all the high conditions. the only concern we have for rain is that this front up to the north and northeast, we expect we might get clipped. we didn't really see too much of that. the high was just in control and dominant. we see showers tuesday night into wednesday and wednesday is the day of rain and then
