tickets start at $1000. former governor bob riley is hosting the event. we'll continue to bring you the latest on the candidates and the issues on air and online at wjz.com. >> right now baltimore police are investigating the possible rape of a woman after she left a popular bar. derek is live in the news room with new details about the suspect. >> reporter: a woman tells police a man raped her after she left a bar early saturday morning. she woke up an hour later lying on a front lawn in the 300 block of lake avenue. she doesn't recall how she ended up there but was able to give police a brief interruption of her attacker. he has a short hair cut and wearing a green t-shirt. anyone with information should call the police. >> and the woman is cooperating with investigators. >> two key witnesses testify in the sexual abuse trial against

jerry sandusky. one accuser holds back tears. wjz reports from the courthouse. >> reporter: former assistant football coach told jurors he saw jerry sandusky with a young boy in the shower in 2001. he testified sandusky was standing behind the boy who appeared to be 12 or 12 propped up across the wall and heard skin on skin smacking sounds and he closed the locker loudly to indicate he was there. earlier today jurors heard disturbing testimony from an 18 year old who said sandusky molested him as a boy. sandusky got more physical with him during sleep overs and contact that led to oral sex. he said he didn't know what to do. i kind of blacked out. i didn't want it to happen. i kind of froze. did you tell your mom asked the

prosecutor? no. did you tell anyone? no. did you tell him to stop? no. i was embarrassed and confused and didn't know what to do. eventually the -- the counselor didn't believe him saying sandusky had a heart of gold. on the cross examination sandusky's defense attorney tried to show the teen changed his story and the testimony is now more detailed than what he originally told authorities and the grand jury. defense attorneys want to prove the accusers are trying to benefit financially from the case. wjz eyewitness news. >> he told jurors after he left the locker room he called his dad who told him to leave immediately and come right to the house. >> we're following breaking news now. go to kristie -- let's go to kristie now. >> as you are traveling 95

south bound, let's take a live look. as you can see, the accident is at river side parkway. it just occurred moments ago. a couple of vehicles involved in this collision. the two lanes on the right-hand side are blocked off. right now the delay is all the way back and we just expect it to get longer with the weather and traffic building up at this point. we'll continue to bring you up to date but best case scenario would be to avoid this. >> still trying to find the cause of a crash on the eastern shore. the aircraft went down during a test flight that originated at the they'll air station. it cost more than a hundred million dollars and according to the wall street journal it weighed more than 10-tons and fortunately didn't hit any people or buildings. >> also, arson investigators are investigating what caused a

fire. >> reporter: the fire is out and now the clean up begins and a big piece of history lost. flames devoured the old reliable store as 125 firefighters worked through blazing heat to get it under control. >> it was raging out of control. >> reporter: this building is where it all began. reportedly, the pictures were still upstairs. the first floor was converted to a grocery long ago and holds special memories for preservation. >> my grandmother would go there and shop. >> it's very sad and devastating to the community to see something like that. >> reporter: at this point, what's left is so unstable it

it's still raining out there. 72 degrees in central maryland right now. it has been one year since the nephew of maryland congressman was murdered. they're begging for new leads.

>> reporter: he was an honor student. his life cut short last june. >> we got the call no one wanted to receive the call on that. christopher had been shot down in cold blood. >> reporter: since the murder, congressman has raised concerns over student's safety. christopher lived off campus in a neighborhood where other students have been victimized by crime. >> christopher is dead and he's gone. i'm not here for him. i'm here for these other students. >> reporter: last september they issued a warrant for a person of interest. as of today no arrest. they're reinterviewing old witnesses. ever since the funeral, cummings has repeatedly issued this message to the killer. >> i promise we'll find you. you didn't give christopher

justice. we want to make sure you get justice and we want to make sure you never do this to another human being again. >> since the murder, police have increased patrols in that off campus neighborhood. >> a maryland lawmaker found guilty of theft and misconduct in office. tiffany austin can now be forced out. she's convicted of using state money to pay an employee at her private law firm. this crime has -- if you're waiting for someone to get home from work, let's check on the roads. kristie is live with traffic. i know your watching the situation on i-95 closely. >> that's right. we have an accident there at river side parkway. it is blocking the left two lanes and the delay is significant. your best bet would be to get on route 40 instead. as far as the rest of the week

just moments ago president obama boarded air force one at marshall airport. the president made two fund raising stops in downtown baltimore today. he's waves good-bye and headed to philadelphia where he'll attend more fund raisers before returning to washington tonight. >> such a beautiful plane. let's check in with bob over in the weather center. hopefully okay wet r for him to get -- weather for him to get off in the sky there, bob. >> it's going to be rain now. heaviest rain in the north east now. harper county is where the heaviest is. just west of the city, just about done for the time being. south of this is a heavier shower. headed toward the easton area.

the rest of the area, there's a few showers popping up in the west. thunderstorms may make it to our region around 8:30 or 9:00 and we could see an additional shower with that activity. behind that much better weather coming from overnight into tomorrow morning. 72 now and 81. the sun is out in cumberland but a thunder shower close by. 74 in oakland and 77. no rain currently. everybody else with clouds and showers, low to mid-70s now. around the region, just about the same forecast. 72 in columbia. as far as the rain is concerned, east and north east of the area the front is still to the west. that's the average that's moist

set down with wjz to remember the woman they loved. >> she had a family. this is devastating for this entire family. >> reporter: police say when they found the victim's body in the woods she had no obvious signs of trauma and no identification. they needed her fingerprint to find out who she was. >> that's not an area she would be in. she would never stray too far from home. she would always come home. >> reporter: county police are guarding details of the murder. they have few leads to go on. >> we are reaching out to anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual and also anyone who was a contact of this victim who may be able to provide some incite into what happened and why she was killed. >> to take her, it just isn't right. >> reporter: family members want answers and her grieving father wants justice. >> i want to say whatever happened to my family could happen to your family.

couple lied about how much money they raised from a website. george zimmerman pleaded not guilty in a shooting. live in the news room with more on a bizarre case. >> reporter: can explosion came from land triggering a rescue effort. two calls came within five minutes using the same radio transmitter the coast guard is offering a reward leading to an arrest. >> they're making a false distress call. there's a maximum penalty and reimbursement to the coast guard for the coast of the search. >> a huge wild fire in colorado continues to burn out of control. firefighters are battling a --

by plane and air. >> reporter: a massive blanket of smoke stretches for miles across colorado. the flames continue to spread. more than 43,000 acres have burned and huppeds of homes and billings gone. hundreds -- buildings gone. heavy smoke surrounded their house and it was too much for her who was seven months pregnant. her husband, a former combat marine in iraq said he's never felt so helpless. >> i'm not worried about the house. we'll rebuild and be fine. >> reporter: at least one person was not able to escape. a 62 year old woman died in her home. authorities tried to reach her but were blocked off by flames. the smoke has put haze around nearby communities but it's fire conditions that make this

fire difficult to contain. crews can dig lines around the fire but the trees are so dry the flames are jumping from tree top to tree top. in new mexico firefighters are starting to contain two huge fires. thousands of acres of trees are charred among dozens of homes and billings -- buildings. in colorado people are gathering on a nearby hill to see if their homes down below will survive. >> when you move to a place like that your taking your chances and it's a matter of time. >> reporter: thousands of home owners hope their time is not up. wjz eyewitness news. >> firefighters hope to have the fire close to 10% contained by later tonight. >> also tonight the faa is trying to figure out how a large chunk of ice may have fallen out of a plane and in a home in california. the homeowner said she heard the crash and felt the home

shaking. no one was hurt. >> two teens in police custody accused of throwing a bottle bomb at a six year old girl on a playground. it's the sixth incident in the county this year. michelle speaks with parents who are now on high alert. >> reporter: from a distance they look like any other bottle but in just a few seconds they can become deadly. it can become extremely dangerous. >> reporter: he said besides being dangerous they're popular. yesterday a six year old girl came into the way of being injured at the sunset elementary school playground after investigators say two teenagers threw a bottle bomb at her while she played. >> my kids do it all the time. if they see an empty bottle they pick it up and play with it. >> reporter: this is the sixth investigation they have investigating this year.

they investigated 28 cases in 2011. >> reporter: they were found just a few feet away from this playground. they were sitting on these bleachers. >> reporter: the police say the teens are now in custody facing felony charges. >> i don't think kids understand the consequences of what happens to the stuff that they probably find on the internet. >> reporter: she says finding a bottle bomb could be -- >> devices that emanate an odor or are swelling or increased pressure with them should raise suspicion. >> reporter: they're still investigating whether the teens are connected to other explosions in the area. mary. >> thank you. people are asked to call police should they spot a suspicious

used to seeing baltimore but wednesday don't get too close to look at the pride as they move up the chesapeake. >> the area from 100 yards from the naval vessel or ship is off limits. >> reporter: control boats will be enforcing safety zones which move with the vest tells. private craft are -- vessels. >> maintaining a proper lookout and maintaining a safe speed and keeping the direction of the enforcement vessels. >> reporter: this event is so large it's going to take help to pull off. maryland's natural resource of police and 17 others first responder agencies will also control the ship's travel.
