inner harbor where celebration is underway. it's an absolutely gorgeous day out here. just a short time ago a celebration kicked off on the ground with a special ceremony. >> today we are officially kicking off baltimore's star spangled celebration. >> oh say can you see by the dawn's early light. >> we speak to the major commitment we have to baltimore and the importance to the 1812 efforts. thank you for welcoming our fleet of ships into baltimore's water ways. for those visiting the city this week, there's so much to do. >> we have naval vessels,

celebration vessels, music, kid activities, food, sporting events and more. >> reporter: and yesterday people gathered all around the harbor to watch as ships sailed in. it was an absolutely gorgeous site. we had the opportunity to ride in with the mexican sailors. here's a look at what people were out and about doing this morning. cue the music. the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the war of 1812 is under way.

>> people are not aware a lot of this is going on f. >> reporter: the arrival of the ships brought the start of the celebration as the crews stopped at the inner harbor and locus point. 40 vessels from around the world welcomed to baltimore with a 21 gun salute. the suspect -- captain of each ship honored by baltimore. right before we started the noon show we're standing here and the blue angels flew right other. we were told they might be practicing today and tomorrow for their big show this weekend but we were unaware when they would be flying over. it was great for everyone here on the ground. we go live to jeff. it must be gorgeous up there. >> reporter: it is gorgeous. it's a beautiful day. we're currently over martin

state airport looking at the hornets of the u.s. navy's blue angels demonstration team. the rest of the airplanes just took off. you may see them around the city practicing today and tomorrow. this weekend they'll be conducting the world famous flight celebration over the river. you'll be able to catch the performances between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. saturday and again on sunday. baltimore has never hosted an air show like this before. reporting live, i'm captain jeff long, now back to you. >> reporter: our own alex will be covering the blue angels as they prepare for this weekend's big show. it's unclear as to when they'll be practicing, they can't reveal that information. if you're down here, it will get pretty exciting. joining me now, my colleague tim williams, meteorologist tim

special coverage all day long today as we continue to bring you the star spangle celebration. we've also got breaking news in baltimore county where police confirm a situation underway at a home in woodland. good afternoon, mike. >> reporter: good afternoon everybody. we have some video to show you close to the scene. you can see police officers with their guns drawn. this started around 845 testimony tim this morning. it started with -- 8:45 this morning. it started with a call. swat crews responded to the scene. we have many police on the ground. the man police are telling us they believe is armed at this point but there is no word on whether there's hostages. the public information officer just showed up here so we're hoping to get a briefing from her as soon as she -- as far as

we know it's still unfolding. dogwood lane in woodland. wjz eyewitness news. >> wjz will continue to follow the story for you and bring you the latest at 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00. also, a teenager is dead after getting in a fight with an off duty police officer. the officer chased the 17 year old and several others after hearing something hit his house. he found brown and a fight ensued and during the fight the teenager fell down unconscious. he was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. the officer was placed on leave. the family of a young girl wounded in a south baltimore shooting is suing a gps company. they want more than $70 billion from the company. they claim that davis and his

ankle monitor device was not working when he shot at a man in 2009. she was hit by a bullet and still suffers today. an update on the fire that destroyed an old building earlier this week, the building had half a million dollars in damages. the flames broke out on monday afternoon at the 500 block of south broadway, the store building. the cause of the fire remains under investigation at this hour. still to come at noon. wrapping up their case, the prosecution seems to be winding down in the sex abuse trial. will more accusers take the stand today. a huge hailstorm hits dallas. a look at the damage done there. coming up. >> reporter: we are down here live at the inner harbor to bring you all the conch of -- coverage of the celebration as the blue angels are out here

angels doing a practice session over the river. your complete forecast is still coming up. the prosecution could wrap up their case by tomorrow in the jerry sandusky trial. a sixth accuser took the stand this morning. he claimed the football coach invited him to work out at penn state and later coached him in the shower with him there. two more could be called to testify. sandusky has pleaded not guilty to 52 accounts of sexually abusing boys. he could take the stand next week. lance armstrong can no longer compete in the tra -- triathalons. armstrong denies the charges calling all the allegations baseless. the search on for a trauma

surgeon accused of shooting his co-workers. they say he shot and killed the receptionist where they both worked. they had been dating in the past and recently broken up. police locked down the campus for more than four hours yesterday but still not been able to locate the doctor. in dallas people are busy cleaning up damage caused by a huge hailstorm. the hail damaged cars, buildings and roofs. it's been called one of the worst hailstorms in the dallas area in several years if not ever. still ahead on wjz eyewitness news at noon, a perfect day to set sail or watch the blue angels sore overhead, tim. >> reporter: which they are doing now. they are chris crossing in every direction. they are out here flying and having a good time and we're

barometer is at 30. chilly morning. oakland has risen to 70. 72 degrees hagerstown. below 70s in ocean city. 76 degrees in washington and 74 west minister and 72 degrees in bellair. the weather is just as easy as we've been discussing. big area of high pressure over the great lakes continues to run the show by tomorrow. it meanders up to the north east. still pleasant conditions tomorrow and through the weekend. we'll slowly move down into what i call the slot. in the middle of next week we'll get to the return flow and it will start getting hot and humid again but it's going to take almost wednesday for that to happen. 80 degrees is the high. tonight we'll call it patchy clouds. sunshine, 80 degrees tomorrow. your five day forecast looks
