a star spangled spectacle. the blue angels take over maryland skies. want to the fun and meaning behind it all. good evening everyone. thanks for joining us. those festivities continue as we celebrate the bicentennial of the war of 1812. we bring you live coverage. today after days of anticipation the blue angels soared high above. >> reporter: you really have to come down to the inner harbor to see just how many people are here. the walkways are packed with crowds. everybody seems to be having a great time. earlier today it was the same story when the blue angels put on their show. from what we could see, they

did not disappoint. all eyes were on the sky this afternoon as thousands of people focused in on the air above fort mchenry as the u.s. navy's blue angels squadron put on a precision show. the angels have been roaring around the city for the past few days, but that was just practice. today was the real deal. spectators showed up hours in advance to get the perfect spot to watch all the dips, nose dives and death defying stunts. >> i'll be seeing them again tomorrow. i hope you all enjoy it. >> reporter: if the planes zoomed by too quick, the airport is offering a closer look with the festival of modern and historic aircraft. including the blue angels. >> you can't go anywhere and see this many aircraft on display and talk to the guys who are piloting the aircraft. >> it's like nothing i've ever

seen. >> reporter: while today's focus shifted to the air, the harbor was still packed. thousands more showed up to check out the parade of international ships. many telling us the bicentennial sailabration so far has been a spectacle for the eyes. and the blue angels do have another show tomorrow at fort mchenry. that will be from 1:00 to 4:00. they liked it so much they're going see it again tomorrow. back to you. >> as long as their eardrums can hold up to that noise. >> reporter: it was incredible. you did see a few people like this, it's not that bad. it's a great show. if you didn't catch it today, catch it tomorrow. >> it's weird it's almost like silent when they're coming at you. tonight's festivities include fireworks also. make sure to join us monday morning at 11:00.

we'll have a live star spangled celebration special. the weather has been nearly picture perfect for the sailabration all week long. let's take a live look outside right now. more on these beautiful ships in the harbor. just a couple clouds hanging around. are we going to stay rain free? bernadette is live with an updated look at the radar. >> reporter: it's spectacular. this many beautiful days in a row. not just clear but comfortable on top of it. there's nothing going on in our area, when we do open it up a little bit you can see just off to the west of us that's the next storm that will be moving in our direction. already start fog produce some thunderstorms over kentucky. now we'll show you temperaturewise because this is another big part of this story. 78 degrees is where we sit right now in baltimore. the dew point is still low and comfortable. we'll show you everyone in the

upper 70s to around 80 degrees. this is going to carry for a little while longer. >> we have break news we're following. an avalanche sweeps four people off mount mckenly in alaska. five people were climbing when the avalanche hit. one team member survived. the other four tumbled into debris and they haven't been seen since. we'll have the latest on the search for the group coming up tonight at 11:00. we're also efforting some video out of alaska. federal investigators are on the scene of an airplane crash. gigi explains the probe into the crash could take months. >> reporter: federal investigators say every factor surrounding this wreck that killed a pilot friday morning is under scrutiny. 64-year-old henry thomas judkins tried to make an

emergency landing at the carroll county regional airport in westminster. but ended up ejecting from the plane mere feet from the runway. >> the pilot was experiencing some mechanical troubles before the crash. >> reporter: medics rushed the pilot to shock trauma, but he died on the way. >> he was unconscious and unresponsive. very rarely do we get called out for plane crashes in this area. >> reporter: now a team from the national transportation safety board is on the ground combing the scene for the second day. judkins's family says he was a skilled pilot. according to documents judkins was a commercial pilot, an aircraft mechanic and a flight instructor. both are investigating the crash scene this weekend. >> the ntsb says it could take between 12 and 18 months to

determine the official cause for that accident. the lawyer for a maryland man in prison in cuba is reacting. alan gross' lawyer says the jailed contractor has lost more than 100 pounds. now the cuban government says gross' health is normal. in a statement today, gross' attorney says they're going to remove the records. united nations observers in syria are suspending their patrols. rebel forces have been trying to overthrow the government. >> reporter: battered un patrol vehicles will remain ground until it's safe to resume work. >> in this high risk situation,

suspending operations. this suspension will be reviewed on a daily basis. >> reporter: un says escalating violence makes it impossible for 300 monitor to carry out their mission. shots were fired last week. roadside bombs have damaged several vehicles. the observers were sent to syria after un envoy brokered a cease fire that neither honored. observers spent most of their time on atax on civilians. more than 100 people were slaughtered, mostly women and children. members of syria's opposition are calling for new action. >> it's also high time they announce that the mission has failed. the whole initiative has failed. >> reporter: syria's president blames the violence on terrorists and shows no sign

he'll bow to international pressure to step down. the un says syrian forces have killed about 10,000 people in a crack down on protests. >> and the white house also issued a statement today. it calls on the syrian regime to uphold its commitments. egyptians are voting in a two-day presidential runoff as that nation struggles with political turmoil. 16 months after the uprising, egypt is still without a constitution and in a recent controversial court decision the country's parliament was dissolved. it is one small step for man and a giant leap for

beautiful, mostly sunny and 78 degrees in central maryland right now. look at all those boats. the situation is colorado is not looking better tonight. so far the high park fire is only 20% contained. it's scored more than 54,000 acres and killed one woman. about 100 homes have been destroyed. >> we better get the rest of our stuff out today. sounds like a war zone up here with the choppers and whatnot. pulling water out of the pond. >> firefighters say it's going

to take at least another two weeks to get this blaze under control. more debris from last year's deadly tsunami. a family found this fishing boat at a beach in washington state. authorities are working with japanese officials. they believe the vessel floated more than 5000 miles across the pacific ocean. life jackets with japanese writing were spotted. new insight tonight into boston mobster whitey bulger's life on the run. they detailed the apartment where he was arrested. he had a shelf of gangster books. also an arsenal of weapons that were stuff intoed a hole in the wall along with stacks of cash. bulger spent 16 years on the run. a 10-year-old boy saves his family after a bad car accident in arizona. the boy freed his younger

siblings. the crash sent his mom flying through the windshield. she was in critical condition. he started giving his mom cpr. >> you did a remarkable thing for anybody, but for a 10-year- old man like yourself, really no words. it's remarkable. i want to thank you personally. way to go. you're a hero. >> brave young man there. the fire chief presented him with a special certificate. you can see he even got his own helmet and it has his name on the back. he's walking into the record books. last night daredevil nik wallenda crossed the falls from u.s. to canada. he did this on a two-inch tight rope nearly 200 feet above the ground. wallenda is now focusing on his

next goal, that is walking across a stretch of the grand canyon. beautiful view. i like seeing it from ground though. >> that is crazy. it was amazing when he did it here too. let alone there. and all the training. >> he probably had a hard time doing it in the harbor. i was cruising around the harbor yesterday. you may not realize how big those ships are. when you're in the water, they're monstrous ships. they're so gorgeous. >> how much cool stuff going on right there. >> the u.s. coast guard one. it's cool that america owns a ship like that. >> beautiful for everything going on out doors. we have lacrosse tournaments. we have everything and it is just gorgeous. lots of sunshine. we're going to hang on to this for a ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

if you're out on one of the boats make sure you're putting on some sunscreen. >> there's a lot of sun. there's going to be again tomorrow. if you didn't get a chance to get down there yet, make sure you do. even if it's just a walk around the harbor. there's so much to see. you can see those blue angels. pretty spectacular. it's worth seeing if you haven't. >> amazing depending on where you're standing. >> they're cueing weather. we can talk about this all day. 81 degrees. that's where we topped out today. the average is 83. very comfortable air on top of us. dew points in the low 50s. almost everybody in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees. 70-degrees in ocean city. still spectacular. winds around to the east and a light breeze just helping to keep that air circulating. we're still comfortable for tomorrow. that's going to be changing.

out to the west the heat is building, the humidity is building and there is a front. that'll be moving in our direction monday. here's what we're looking at. in the middle of the country temperatures have been soaring. where they get knocked down, some thunderstorms have been coming through. that's the air moving in our direction. right now as a front. with that dividing the hot air between the cooler air behind it. that's going to move our way. on monday the warm front part of it comes our way. the clouds come in, chance for showers, maybe a thunderstorm. it's blind that that we're going to get into the hot air. temperatures go down a bit monday. behind it this is what we're seeing with the cold front part of the storm. it will bring the hot air with it. eventually the chance for some thunderstorms. forecast looks like this, out on the waters still just absolutely spectacular

tomorrow. southeast winds at 5 to 10 knots. that is it. forecast goes like this, for tomorrow getting up to 80 degrees after starting out in the 50s. on monday here come the clouds. chance for a couple of showers. then here comes that hot air. we're in the 90s by wednesday and thursday with the chance for an afternoon shower or thunderstorm. >> not too shabby. thanks so much. mark is here filling in for stan. >> not too shabby are the orioles. >> they've had a couple of moment. >> they've been playing well in 162 games you're not going to win them all. last night was one. we'll hear from the birds coming up next ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

mark is here with the sports report. you can't win them all. it's a marathon, not a sprint. >> even the best team will lose at least 60 games in a baseball season. the orioles have been in first place or close to it all season. they've played more good games than bad. tonight in atlanta they're trying to bounce back from one of the bad ones. buck showalter saw his team winning streak end at five in a row. most frustrating was this 8th inning play. adam jones got picked off 1st base. it was a game in which the o's did pitch well. they couldn't score enough in what ended up a 4-2 defeat. >> you get opportunities and opportunities. you know, they come through on

theirs. matusz threw a heck of a game. it's frustrating we can't get him a win. >> tonight's oriole lineup has chris davis in right field after he made his major league outfield debut last night. davis made that highlight catch. not bad for a guy who's never played outfield in the big leagues before. hammel going for the o's. you can see the series finale right here tomorrow. masn on wjz. big crowd in washington, d.c. to see the yankees and nats. this game was tied 8th inning. hit by adam laroche. tyler moore will try to score. throw. moore is thrown out at home. let's see the replay. looks like moore touched home. so the yankees get a break there and with the score tied in the 14th inning new york breaks on top. drive to right field.

two runs are score. the yankees win 5-3. now they lead the o's by two games. golf's u.s. open features a three-way tie. tiger woods has just teed off. it's woods, jim furyk and david toms. they've just gotten started. i'll have an update at 11:00. the ravens have time off after wrapping up their offseason mini camp this week. workouts are most important for the younger guys. veterans participated in mandatory camp this past week. adjusting to the loss of terrell suggs who is going to miss half the season with a to be tendon. >> it's going to be tough. a lot of younger guys are looking pretty good. hopefully as veterans bring a lot of those guys up.
