will jerry sandusky take the stand in the child sex abuse trial? >> what his lawyer is now saying about the possibility. hi, everybody. >> here's what people are talking about. >> jerry sandusky's lawyers are calling a range of witnesses today including his wife. they are trying to prove the former coach never sexually abused young boys. manuel gallegus has the latest from pennsylvania. >> reporter: jerry sandusky's wife arrived at court for the first time since the trial began. she could turn out to be a key character witness for him. the defense has called more than a dozen witnesses so far, trying to show the former coach had a stellar reputation as a friend and in the community through the charity he founded. joyce porter has noun him for 40 years and testified on his behalf. >> think of all the thousands

of kids he has helped. >> reporter: the defense tried to discredit the accusers and motives. a neighbor of a mother testified she told him, i'll own sandusky's house after finding out about the alleged abuse. and the defense questioned two investigators. they tried to suggest that the investigators led the accusers to make accusations. a former penn state wrestler who met him as a teen testified about his relationship with the former coach saying he received fifties, but was never abused. sandusky's attention spoke about whether his client will take the stand, comparing the drama to a soap opera and telling reporters they need to stay tuned. court obviousers felt it was an odd remark in a case with such serious allegations. manuel gallegus. >> sandusky faces 51 counts of

sexual abuse involving 10 boys. he could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted. new details in the case of a former student accused of killing his house mates and eating his body parts. >> reporter: well, a judge ordered him to be transferred to a maryland state mental hospital. the decision comes after he was formally indicted on murder charges. the 21-year-old is accused in the death of his house mate. the state's attorney office says he was transferred to the hospital for a evaluation and what is what the attorneys requested. he is being held without bond. >> thank you. >> he had been living with the family when he was killed. we are learning more about a murder investigation in delaware. the resort's first murder in over 30 years. police say they have arrest warrants for a 26-year-old seen here in this video. he is wanted in connection with

the death. she was found dead in a ground room at the atlantic ocean side motel on coastal highway. a cleaning lady discovered the body yesterday morning. the former rutger's university student convicted of bias for spying on his roommate is now free. we are live with more. >> reporter: he walked out of jail after serving 20 days of a 30 day sentence. he reported to the jail on may 31st. even though he could have remained free while the case is appealed. last month, he was found guilty of spying on his roommate during an encounter with another man. he still faces three years probation and 300 hours of community service. >> thank you. federal immigration authorities say he will not be deported to his native india. decades after he won the preakness, we may learn if he set a record back in 1973.

be a few feet. >> reporter: a ship has been waiting. wednesday at low tide, they'll pass under the bay and key bridges. >> they're not coming through the bridge at the full height. they have been disabled. they have been lowered. so the height on the bridge is 183 feet. and i think we have about four to six feet clearance. >> reporter: that's still going to be a tight squeeze, but it's the price of keeping baltimore sports competitive. ships will be dwarfed by the next generation of ships carrying 14,000 containers and because they'll be wider, they are needed to lift cargo from one side to another. >> that's important because no ship owner wants to come to a port. >> reporter: to avoid the possibility of drivers becoming distracted, the bay bridge will shut down wednesday for roughly 40 minutes. and the key bridge will slow

mostly sunny right now. the forecast is coming up. a robbery suspect in texas decides breaking down the door of a fast food restaurant is too much, so he tried the drive- thru window. the man hangs through the window and threatens the restaurant employee with a gun. the worker hands over about $200 and the suspect takes off. police are trying to track him down. well, an industrial fire in arizona prompts a number of explosion. massive flames engulf the business. you can see the explosions happening as the fire rages on. no word on what caused it. peter d'oench has a look at the stunning images. >> reporter: from the side.

>> showing the sphere. that is from looking straight down at the back edge. >> reporter: doctors display a montage of initial x-rays of the head. he was transported with three- feet of a sphere protruding. it took three hours of surgery to remove it. police say his friend was holding a sphere gun like this one when it deployed and hit him in the head. >> about one each above his right eye. >> reporter: froms from um jackson and the army trauma training center praised paramedics for preventing more head trauma. froms used a rebar cutter from miami-dade fire rescue and vice grips to stabilize the sphere. >> in this case, we needed to make sure none of the blood vessels have been injured. we had to do a test. >> reporter: doctors and were challenged by removing the tip

and france and today the president held talks with china. more people in colorado could be forced from their homes. dozens have been evacuated in the past week and a half. we have a look at dramatic video captured by a couple who escaped the fire. >> reporter: the couple recorded the evacuation from their cabin. you can see the flames and smoke in the distance as the couple drives away. they had only minutes to grab their belongs and flee, hoping their home would be spared. they have now learned that their cabin has been destroyed. firefighters have about half of the fire contained, but more heat and wind could make matters worse. so far, 60,000-acres have been burned. >> damage is now estimated at more than $12 million. right now, a large brush fire is burning in southern california. the fire prompted the evacuation of 50 homes. a break overnight helped firefighters get the blaze 75%

contained. only one house has been destroyed so far. they hope to have it fully contained tonight. the mother of rodney king talks to the media. more on her questions about his death. >> i talked to him friday night. >> reporter: it would be the last time. >> i'm going to come down and see you. i love you. >> reporter: we sat down with rodney's mother in her home, a home he bought for her. >> he loved people. and he loved to ask questions and he would ask them. >> reporter: and now his mother is left with questions about his death. rodney king's bid was found at the bottom of his southern california swimming pool. officers say he likely drowned. he became famous after l.a.p.d. police officers were caught on tape beating him. when a jury failed to convict them, it sparked riots on the street. 50 people would be killed and rodney would make a famous speech. >> can we all get along?

can we get along? >> when he gave that speech, it was from his heart. some people laughed at him and some people made jokes at it. >> reporter: and his mother admits, despite a big heart, her son had problems in the 20 years that followed. >> due to the beatings, he had to cope to not walk in shame. >> reporter: she insists that he was a good son. she showed us this painting he bought for her just a few years after the riots. as for his death, when i asked if she was suspicious -- >> i don't know. i haven't heard all the reports. i can't say. so i would want to think the best. >> reporter: through it all, she says their family will come together, rely on their faith and keep rodney's memory alive. we're human. >> rodney king leaves behind three daughters and two grandchildren.

the search is on for a man suspected in several gas station robberies. police say the man in these photos took cigarettes and lottery tickets on two separate occasions. and he reportedly stole the same items from the shell on mountain road. anyone with information is asked to call crime stoppers. maryland lawmakers meet to decide whether changes should be made to a ruling targeting pit bulls. we are live with more on that hearing. >> reporter: lawmakers on a pit bull task force heard from owners as well as victims. they are trying to decide whether to take action to undue the ruling that deemed all pit bulls inherently dangerous. it makes landlords and other people liable for injury by a pit bull on their property. those who oppose fear they'll be abandoned and people will be

forced to relocate. >> thank you. wjz was at the meeting. more on the arguments coming up live at 5:00 and 6:00. a bear attacks a woman outside her home in new hampshire. and now once it's caught, it may have to be killed. >> reporter: a bear trap has been set up. the new hampshire woman says she was attacked on her front porch. if caught, fish and game plan to euthanize the bear. >> her dog was out, the bear was outside the house. she was trying to save the dog. and you know, she got tangled up with it. >> it came up on the porch. and there was blood on the porch. >> reporter: the neighbor says she was caught badly in the arm by the bear. >> somehow the dog got away out from between her and the bear. and that's when it took a swipe at her. >> reporter: they say they'll keep the trap and hope to catch the bear. but after two days, they plan to remove it. >> if that bear is caught, it

been so lessen, really comfort conditions, low humidity. but we have a big change headed our way. today the warmest day in a while, 86,000. that's about two degrees above normal. 72 the cool spot in ocean city. and oakland warmed up to 88. now 16 degrees warmer than yesterday. we are 17 degrees warmer because yesterday only around 70 degrees and because of the heat coming tomorrow and probably on thursday as well, they'll issue beginning at noon until 8:00 tomorrow afternoon a heat advisory for much of central maryland. and across the region, they have issued a heat advisory, excessive heat warping. temperatures in the mid- to upper 90s. but it will feel like 100 degrees or higher. so please take it easy. haven't seen these temperatures for quite some time. >> thank you. let's check on the roads right now.

hello. >> hi everyone. well, we do have a couple of problem spots on northbound 95. the first problem we have is a vehicle fir that's between white marsh boulevard and mountain road. and we have those delays that still stretch from 95 split approaching white marsh boulevard. as far as the north side, stop and go from the expressway around the valley. the west side inner loop, that delay increased. looking at 20 minutes from baltimore national pike to security boulevard. and the outer loop slow in that direction. average speed about 35 miles per hour. as far as accidents go, two in the white marsh area. franklin square drive and campbell boulevard at town center drive. and one in the city, liberty heights avenue. let's take a live look. things are definitely slowing down a bit there on the beltway at security boulevard. they appear to still be moving and we have traffic building as well on the harrisburg
