maryland. many are trying to stay hydrated while continuing to work out. the maryland zoo in baltimore city the polar bears are spending the afternoon chilling out on the ice. taking a live look now at the inner harbor. it's hazy and humid out there. the sun is shining brightly with little to no cloud cover. just a lot of haze. wjz is live with first warning cover. alex has important information to stay safe. first bernadette woods is tracking today's temperatures. >> good afternoon. we have some updates to our watching and warnings. there are warnings out for the eastern shore for excessive heat until 1:00 a.m.. for the rest of us excessive heat advisory until 10:00 tonight. it's 96 in baltimore. when you factor in the dew points it feels hotter than

that. feeling like 97 in baltimore. look at all those 100s. through the afternoon the temperatures are going up. we're predicting a high of 100, which would tie the record with the heat index making it feel hotter. there's some relief coming. maybe at the cost of severe weather, we will have that coming up. first warning weather continues now with alex. >> reporter: jessica, hi. when heat waives hit like this it puts a tremendous stream on electric grids. >> hot yesterday, hotter yesterday. humidity will make it feel worse. doing physical activities out doors takes common sense. >> try to get out here early, beat the weather. it's kind of beating us. >> not everyone has the luxury of choosing where they'll be. plenty of marylanders have jobs to do recordless of the weather

officer. 17-year-old christopher brown died last week of affixuation. the officer chased brown after he heard rocks hit his door. laboard is on administrative leave. the vigil is being held at randall town high school where brown was a junior at 7 o'clock. closing arguments are now underway in the child sex abuse trial of jerry sandusky. >> jerry sandusky declined to answer reporters questions as he walked into court this morning with his wife. the jury could begin deliberating this afternoon after both sides present their closing arguments. jurors began their day listening to instructions from the judge about the meaning of reasonable doubt. the judge told them not to find sandusky guilt on suspicion or doubt, they have to be sure. he addressed the

question of when conduct becomes criminal, saying it's not a crime for a man to take a shower with a boy or wash his hair or crack his back. you may believe he exercised poor judgement but poor judgement is not criminal alty. the jury will make a decision without hearing sandusky's own words. the former football coach choose not to testify in his own defense. the defense tried to show investigators cohearsed the accusers when they shared information between the witnesses. they tried to prove inconsistencies with the eight accusers stories and called numerous character witnesses to testify about the coach's work in the community and how well he treated the young boys he met through his charity. pros prosecutors have -- -- prosecutors have tried to move he was a serial persecutor. the strongest witness might be mike mcquery who said he saw sandusky engaged in what appeared to be a

sex act with a young boy in a campus shower. >> this morning the judge threw out three out the counts saying two did not have enough supporting evidence and the third duplicated another count. he still faces 48 criminal counts. a house committee votes to hold attorney general eric holder in contempt of congress. the decision comes after holder failed to turn over justice department documents in the operation fast and furs gun smuggling operation that allowed hundreds of guns sold in arizona to end up in mexico. he asked the white house for executive prif lenl to pre-- privilege to present them from being revealed. both sides are willing to negotiate. a commission says no to expanded gambling here in maryland. the work group failed to reach a consensus, meaning there will be no special session on the issue. a 6th casino will

welcome back. we showed this yesterday and again today because it's so appropriate. this is the kind of thing you want to do on an afternoon like today. it's hot and getting hotter. we have heat advisories until 10:00 tonight. 96 already in baltimore. 96 in dc. the dew points have been dropping but it still makes it feel hotter, like 98 in baltimore and look at these 100s southeast of us. it's the entire east coast dealing with this. probably more records this afternoon. we're going to come close to our record of 100 this afternoon. a cold front moves our way. we could see a pop up shower or thunderstorm today but it's more so tomorrow that we're going to

see scattered showers and thunderstorms and some of those could become strong to severe. the storm prediction center put us in a slight risk for tomorrow. that's the first tier of a three tier system. usually when we see this we're going to see strong thunderstorms if not severe. if that happens we will be passing that information along to you. here is that front coming through. it gets out of here saturday morning. another cold front comes our way on monday with a chance for showers. behind that one some real relief, temperatures are going below average. we will show you the numbers later. one more thing to talk about before we're finished here. our first hurricane of the atlantic season, hurricane chris. this is way out there. it's going to stay way out there. closer to home just west of cuba there's an area of disturbed weather we're watching that could become debby. we're dealing with the
