hi, everybody. i'm mary but ball la. >> i'm kai jackson. here is what people are talking about. >> maryland is melting again as the second day of summer packs more intense and dangerous heat. we found kids trying to cool off. another hot spot kids sitting on rocks under beneath trees. -- underneath trees. if you xer -- exercise outside, get the run out early and stay hydrated. it's not only people, these cows followed each other into the pond for a refreshing dip. wjz is live with extensive first warning weather coverage. bob turk and tim williams are updated these near record temperatures for us. we'll start with bob. >> take a look at the current

readings around the area. coming in, we're at 98. ocean city at 90, oakland only at 79. locally temperatures ranging from 93 westminster to 97 in bel air and columbia and the city at 89. with the dew point right now around the low 60s it feels more like 100 in elkin, 106 in easton, only 81 in oakland. we're at 101 right now. now, as far as the advisories are concerned, we still have that advisory until 10:00 p.m. tonight. the heat advisory. over the eastern shore the philadelphia area because the higher humidity, they have an excessive heat warning in effect until 1:00. tim is in the out book unfortunately with some more information on the temperatures. tim. >> reporter: we'll take you to it and give you an odd of how the temperatures -- an idea of how the temperatures fall.

the average for today is 85 degrees. today as bob mentioned we're at 98. the record high is 100. we still have a few hours to go. not until the 5:00 o'clock hour do we get the official high for the day. the heat index is now in the low 100s. we're talking about 101 now. that could be higher as the dew point and temperatures start to climb. as far as for what's going on for the rest of the day and into the weekend, we do have some relief on the way. it's going to come by way of a pretty strong tron -- transition. thursday night, friday into saturday temperatures will take a dip. that means some relief heading into the first full weekend of summer. court complete five day forecast still coming. >> first weather continues with alex live downtown. air-conditions are running and that's an issue for bge.

>> reporter: when heat waives hit like this people naturely look for ways to stay cool. these kids have found their solution in this fountain. for many of us the first and last resort is craveninging up the ac -- cranking up the ac. >> hot yesterday and hot today as day two of summer's heat waive pushes towards 100. good weather for selling ice cream. >> a lot of people are getting ice cream so it's good for us. it's hard because we're out here and it's really humid. >> that had some facing out door work starting early to make a day's pay. >> it pays the bills, you know. yeah, i wouldn't advise nobody to be out here. >> others tried to stay out of the sun. >> we were working where there wasn't no shade, it's nice up there. >> but not everyone had a choice for shade. a lot of marylanders have jobs to do regardless of the weather. drinking plenty of liquid and taking breaks in the shade can

for instant updates go to wjz.com. stocks dropped dramatically over concerns about manufacturing markets. the market just closed. the dow is down over 250 points. much more coming up in money much in just a few minutes. in the hands of the jury. jurors in jerry sandusky's child sexual abuse case begin their deliberations after closing arguments. >> the prosecution summed up its case against jerry sandusky telling jurors the former penn state assistant coach is a quote, serial predatory pedestrian doe file. they reminded jurors about the graphic testimony from the eight men that claim sandusky sexual assaulted them as boys. he said they did not immediately come forward because they, quote, tried to bury what happened to them. he ended his summation by

standing directly behind sandusky -- directly behind sandusky saying he can't give back their souls or pieces he took, give them justice, find him guilt. sandusky glanced at the prosecutor as he stood behind him. in his closing arguments the defense attorneys hammered away at the credibility of star witness mike mcquery, the only eyewitness to testify he saw sandusky abusing a boy in a campus shower. he said mcquery assumed he saw something and reminded jurors that not mcquery and no one he told, not even school officials ever called police. he portrayed sandusky as the victim of over zealous investigators, greedy accusers and a system that convicted him before his arrest. jurors must sort through 48 criminal counts. if con -- convicted he could spend the

rest of his life in prison. >> the jurors are being sequestered at a local hoe held. they will not -- hotel. they will not have tvs phones or any means of communication with the outside world. police charged a maryland woman who lied about being robbed inside a hotel room. she claims she was tied up by an unknown person in a hotel room. the cincinnati red's pitcher was staying in that room. she said the suspect stole $6,000 in jury. police are charging her with filing a faults report. family and friends will gather for a vigil held for a teenager killed in a kron frontation with an off duty officer. >> christopher brown died last week.

the officer chased brown after he heard rocks hit his door. officer laboard was giving the teen cpr when ems arrived. the vinl ill is being -- vinl vigil is being held at his high school. laboard is on leave during the investigation. >> brown's grieving mother describes him as an outstanding student and says she has serious questions about the officers conduct. hear about this case tonight at 5:00 and 6:00. the show down continues between the u.s. attorney general and house republicans. eric holder is trying to resolve the conflict. >> attorney general eric holder is holding out hope negotiations can still resolve the show down with congress. >> i think the possibility still exists that it can happen in that way. >> a republican led house committee voted on wednesday to hold him in contempt.

in flames in san francisco. >> there it goes. >> a four alarm blaze tears through the building on peer 29. more than 100 firefighters responded to the fire. the structure was under renovation for the 2013 america's cup yhat race. no one was hurt. a fishing trip turns dangerous for a vermont couple. they were left treading water after being swept over a water fall. they were fishing when the woman lost her footing and the husband went in after her and the current sucked them both over the fall. rescue crews used a ladder and floating devices to get them out. a new study says many heart attack patients are developing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.

the humidity is lower than yesterday. we're down to 31%. the dew point is actually down 3 degrees from yesterday at this hour, down to 63. north wind at 6 has mixed in some drier air. 96 elkin, 90 ocean city, 95 packs river, easton seems to be the hottest place around here 99. because easton has so much water around it higher dew point air, it's much more uncomfortable there than it is west of the hour. only 84 in cumberland, only 74 in oakland. that's quite a range across the region. we have a light north wind now that did mix the atmosphere a little bit and drag down some drier air. there are a couple of showers across west virginia. they will not impact us tonight. tomorrow we he see -- we will see a line of thunderstorms. tonight there's

been storms across portions of kansas into iowa and wisconsin approaching chicago they did drop 20 degrees today in chicago with their showers. that front continues to head out to the east. drier and somewhat cooler air for the weekend. it's going to be a nice summer weekend. you see the thunderstorms popping up to our south. basically it's the mountains. here's the front that will be here tomorrow afternoon. showers and some thours could be locally strong. gusty winds and some heavy downpours possible. temperatures will be dropping. relief for the weekend. that basically heat waive is gone, less humid conditions, drier air coming in and temperatures get back to the upper 80s rather than the upper 90s. west to southwest, they will be shifting to the northwest. much stronger. another warm one tonight, 72, humid as well.

nose. >> police went with zimmerman with bandages still on his nose and back of his head. he said he fell on his back after martin punched him and got on top of him. >> i felt like my head was going to explode. i thought i was going to lose consciousness. >> zimmerman claims he tried to get away and was screaming for help but martin noticed a gun under his jacket. >> he looked at it and said you're going to die tonight [beep] i just grabbed it and shot him. >> zimmerman says the incident started when he spotted martin and called police to report a suspicious person. he went looking for the teenager which led to the confrontation. zimmerman says he didn't realize martin had been shot. >> i didn't think i hit him. he sat up and said you got me. >> zimmerman has pleaded not guilty to second degree murder charges and is being held in a

sanford jail. he's scheduled to have a second bond hearing next week. >> the sanford police chief, bill, lee, has been fired. city officials says he no longer has the confidence of the community. people living in north eastern minnesota are picking up pieces of rain caused flooding. >> the city remains under state of emergency after 7 plus inches of rainfalls in less than 24 hours. the streets and sidewalks are crumbling. in sot spots sink holes are swallowing cars. it forced dozens to evacuate. there's been no reports of serious injuries. a local zoo was hit hard, a dozen animals drowned. >> the flooding is the worst deloout has seen in more than a cently. more help is on the way for firefighters battling the fire in northern colorado. delaware

a jurlist is the target of a ran dam attack on a bus in philadelphia. tape shows the suspect unleaching a flurry of slaps and punches while passengers just stand around. the attack lasts a little more than 10 seconds. the victim said he never seen or met the woman before. so far no one has been arrested. a suicidal man is rescued in

china and it's caught on tape. crews were able to reach the man seconds before he jumped from the side of a tall residential building. he was having family problems. rescuers used a loud speaker to divert his attention long enough for a firefighter to swing around and grab him. the parents accused of killing their daughter's pimp make an appearance at a courthouse in san francisco. kai is live with more on the hearing. >> reporter: no cameras were allowed inside. their accused of killing this man, 22 calvin sneed. attorneys said the couple watched as sneed lured their daughter away from home and became her pimp. hi tracked him and -- they tracked him and shot him. he survived and a week later the couple shot him again killing him. the couple sought help from police before taking matters into their own hands. >> they're being held behind bars until a bail hearing

63 dew point actually lower and drier than yesterday. humidity is 31%. it's not like 100% like some people feel. it's 31%. it could be a lot worse. dew point could be 73 and it would be really tough out there. north wind at 6, the barm ter holding study at 99.8. ocean city at 90, cumberland at 90, oak land at 81. dc 96, easton the hot spot at 99. it's more humid on the eastern shore with all that water, but easton now with the north wind and some moisture their heat index is around 105, 106. we're looking at a heat index around 99 to 100. it's about the same as it was yesterday. the temperatures about one degree warmer. a north wind around 6. the winds are light, not a big breeze. we had just enough wind today to drag down some drier air from aloft.

our relief is coming in the form of this front to the west. before we get to that, there's a disturbance south of florida, it's been sitting there for a couple of days. it's expected to head to the northwest. it will probably become a tropical depression. by the weekend if it becomes a tropical storm it will be debby heading towards the texas coast. we will keep monitoring that. for our region this front out of the west, showers and storms, part of the same system that caused all the rain in minnesota. showers and storms crossing chicago and detroit right now. that will be in our region tomorrow afternoon. a few widely shattered showers to us. slightly cooler temperatures beginning friday and saturday. southwest winds at 5. the bay temperature up there at 79. tonight partly cloudy, down to 72. probably 80 in the city. 94 tomorrow, a little cooler with some clouds
