"wjz" is live. derrick has more on the evacuations and when people will be allowed to return to their homes. >> >> reporter: the fire no longer a threat to the homes, but there is so much smoke in the area the firefighters say it's too risky to let any of the evacuated families go home. the first round of the fires came at 6:00 in the morning as

residents here first woke >> i came outside and saw the smoke. >> reporter: four alarm, 60- acre fire. winds fanning the flames and thick dry underbrush provides plenty of fuel, firefighters had to call in help to gain control. >> we have bulldozers cutting path ways and we are taking firefighters to the paths. its a long involved process when you have a heavily wooded area like that. >> >> winds carry thick, smother, ash, to the roads and emergency officials order the evacuation of homes. >> it's scary. we didn't think it would come to this, but here we go. >> reporter: wendy and her family, among 60 families that grabbed what they could and left. >> >> reporter: by night fall, the fire was contained but the smoke too thick for evacuated

showing flooding here. the first of several days of heavy rain. the storm is not moving fast. some areas could end up getting several feet of rain. for the latest, let's go to meteorologist bernadette woods. i have seen some incredible pictures of flooding on social media. >> >> reporter: it's a mess down there. first warning doppler radar tuned into florida to show you how much rain is covering the state. when i put it in motion, more bands continue to come in from the gulf and make your way across the states. it's not as heavy in tampa as it was earlier. that has shifted into orlando. there is more that will follow. let's switch it over and show you. here is what is tropical storm debby, winds 60-miles an hour. it is nearly stationary. there is no movement at this point. overtime, it is expected to slowly drift off to the north. the last couple of updates continue to take this track off to the east more and more.

elect. muhammed morrisey is the winner. tonight, drew levinson reports for "wjz" he is already reaching out to world leaders. >> reporter: egyptians celebrated into the night in cairo, marking muhammed morrisey's victory. in egypt's first democratically elected preses. morrisey lened to be a leader for all people saying "i will treat up a egyptians the same and respect them." he defeated shafeet in a runoff. he has mubarek's prime minister. egyptians who took part in the demonstrations cheered sunday's results. >> this is just a step, there is a lon road ahead.

city to open a charter. the district denied several charters last year. >> this is serious business running this school. we have to make sure the school will offer good quality option for their students the process is very rigorous. >> reporter: panell said the next step is to find a location for his school and a principal to run it. i'm gigi barnett. this is the exception to the rule. this is sears auto center. partly cloudy and 7 degrees in central maryland. bernadette will have the complete first warning forecast cupping up. >> . first, the roof of a busy shopping mall collapses in canada, trapping people inside. right there in the food court. a portion of the roof that serves as a parking area crumbled down two floorses yesterday. ontario police said 22 people suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. one person is missing, another person is feared dead in the rubble. rescue efforts will continue throughout the work. >> >> it with two wal-mart workers, two women talking and one of them shoves the other one right there into that group

display. police say the fight was over a cutting board. the woman who was hurt in the fight is now recovering. the other woman has been charged with simple battery. >> >> picking up a hitchhiker turns into a scary hostage situation in oklahoma. police say a man in his 20s let a stranger get into his car in tulsa. shortly after, the hitchhiker turned violent. held -p the driver and tied what he said was bomb around the driver's neck. >> the guy i gave the ride to or suspect pulled a pistol on him and put something around the victim's neck that he told him was a bomb and took him to an atm and had them draw out money. >> police say eventually, the driver jumped out of the car and took the device off his neck. turns out it was not a bomb after all. the suspect still on the loose. >> >> a pretty realistic terrorism

drill took place at jfk international airport. local authorities rushed to a simulated scene of a crashed plane into the terminal many rescue workers brought out passengers one after another, actors playing victims on the ground with injuries. jfk drill is part of a government mandated requirement and it involved about 500 volunteers. >> >> the what #-r in afghanistan may be coming to an end, but many soldiers will never -p be the same. more than 1400 servicemen and women have lost limbs serving our country. some of them regaining their mobility in a unique and rather fun way. . far away from the sounds, images and the memories of the war in afghanistan, u.s. marine corporal charles stringer, a single amputee wounded in combat takes a dive into the national aquarium in baltimore. >> it just clears your mind to kind of forget about everything for awhile and enjoy the

program, today. it is really neat. they run on donations. to learn more, go to our website. >> >> it may be the very last thing you expect to see in your headlights? how about a seal that washes up on a road in minnesota. a seal from the lake superior zoo ended up on the road in duluth. it happened because of floods earlier this week and some of the animals got out of their exhibits. the woman who saw the seal, called 9-1-1, took a couple of pictures and stayed with the seal until it was rescued. there was another seal that got loose and that seal was rescued, too. >> >> just flooded up there in minnesota. now, in florida -- >> this forecast has been not such a good one. they are all over the place the reason for that, it has taken a long time to really come together. it depends on the front moving

through our area the front picks up the storm, it turns to the northeast. if it doesn't, it gets pulled in a high pressure pattern switching it to the west. it looks more and more like it will move to the northeast and it could still effect our forecast. entire weather pattern stopping other fronts and forcing others to move along. at this point, it's not looking like a threat to us. take a look at the first warning doppler radar, the front that will effect debby is affecting us, scattered showers and thunderstorms out there. this is a case through the next 12-24 hours with this front going through. the biggest thing, right now, thunderstorm moving off to the east. nothing really strong or severe out there at this point. a couple of thunderstorms, always do have lightening, so you do want to be careful with that. >> >> we'll switch it over and show you sunshine. absolutely spectacular morning around the region then showers and thunderstorms and that will continue tomorrow, as we said

the with the front coming in, winds are starting to pick up and they will pick up even more out of the northwest when it clears up. the really warm air on top of us will cool down. it's 7 degrees -- 2 in dc. 71 after a warm afternoon. 92 degrees. that's where we topped out way above average, once again, not quite the record. going below average behind this front before we have another warmup coming our way. down to the south. this is debby, right in here, tropical storm debby. really isn't moving that much at all. the latest updates keeps it stationary and since it is not moving, all of the flooding rains are going to continue. the satellite sees how far back it goes, down into the gulf. it will continue to pull the moisture up and over florida. for us, scattered showers and thunderstorms out there. we'll have more on that in a moment, but with debby. this is the latest. stationary at this hour. winds close to 60-miles an hour.

seen a little strength earlier, today, it generally is off to the north and eventually off to the northeast. yesterday, when it took it towards the west, it has been turning more and more to the northeast.ist getting close to land. it looks like in about a day or so, it will slowly start to move, north to northeast. if so, these forecast models are all over the place. i don't know what is going to effect debby. that gets out of there for us tomorrow evening. we start to cool it down. behind that, look at the heat that will return for the sec half of the week. small craft advisories go in effect later tomorrow. forecast, tomorrow, we go up to 85 degrees. look at what happens after that. cool it down for tuesday, but here comes the heat returning the seconds half of the week. adam? all right, thanks so much. >> >> coming up in sports, orioles looking to bounce bat, finishing ,,,,
