the 1955 miami open. it has been a rough week for the trees around here. brendon de jonge now. nick: that is no fun. quarter of a mile back. >> yeah. jim: needs a par. he starts out the day with a one-shot lead. needs to make a four. would tie 10th with nick watney. nick: he still has a furlong to go. >> pretty good effort from back there. what a bad bounce. he just had nothing go his way all day long. >> tiger has hit one 345 yards down there. it flew 40 yards past bo.
6:31 pm
>> bo has 222. tiger has 188. >> you can see the space between them. bo getting some council here to sling it off the right side. you have to do that towards the camera tower. >> just split the difference. difference between the flag and the edge of that tower. >> probably the right side of that camera tower. >> go to strike it really well off the slight downslope. >> he has the same 6-iron that he mis-hit. no room for that here. >> that is what i was trying to say. can't hit it fat or it would be wet. you have to be careful to not guard against that in the back of your mind and block it
6:32 pm
straight right. >> again, solid contact on a very good line if the distance is ok. he hit it too far. >> no angle. nick: too far to the right. jim: almost impossible to make a three from there. nick: yeah. >> tiger with 188 yards has a 9-iron. now, this is into the breeze. he is looking at the front portion of the green as the safe part. if he can force it up long enough maybe he can get it down. island it five yards short of that ridge we see on the green and get it to hop over, he has everything he wants. >> almost 190 yards, 9-iron. nick: he just wants to carry
6:33 pm
175-180. that's all. >> drives it down there low. nick: there is the hop over the ridge. >> that is magnificent. what a way to finish. the last time he walked on this fairway in the lead he had private first class brandon morocco to roll along in front of him with tiger applauding. one of the most emotional moments on a golf course that i have ever seen. jim: never forget it, david. nick: yeah.
6:34 pm
jim: staff sergeant with the u.s. marine corps. u.s. navy. nick: for me this is almost once tiger announced earlier in the week he felt really well prepared. you know, i think once you kind of -- in a sublimnal way say i am super fit. i can handle 100 degree weather. just worked his way through the field. jim: watch him start to walk after it. nick: rip your right shoulder
6:35 pm
through it. keep it down. watch it just release over. absolutely perfect. >> he absolutely rifled that like no other. >> yeah. nick: he is enjoying belting the short iron this is week. >> yeah. and a great job from his caddie. if he does not catch that perfectly he is in 3-putt territory. jim: it is interesting watch that relationship really come along this season, david. have you noticed that? >> yes. jim: they seem to work together now. obviously there will be a little bit of a process where you need some tournaments. but now they are really in rhythm together on this. >> that is an important part of caddying. knowing when to step in and step out. speak or not speak.
6:36 pm
jim: how about tiger coming back off of olympic and the weekend there. everybody is trying to make a fast conclusion about high is back or not back. why can't people let it play out and be the first one to make a great proclamation and say see, i told you. it is hard to make any concluggedses based off of that weekend at olympic. nick: he comes out 10 days later to start the event and he is back on track and wins again. it must be frustrateing that he had it, couldn't handle it at olympic and now he has got it again. jim: tiger just has an uphiller, not very long.
6:37 pm
he will make four at the worst. what are the chances this goes in? >> i don't think he will get too greedy. he can't risk trying to make a birdie and give that up either. jim: needs to hole it. >> his critics will say he won't be back until he wins a major. some will say first three-time winner. keep doing what he is doing and he will be just fine. nick: will he be just fine if he doesn't win a major? >> the reason he won so many majors is because he won so many other tournaments.
6:38 pm
jim: he is 36 years old. if he stays fit and knee holds up he can be competitive for at least another 10 years. 40 majors. nick: i am sure he will find a way to win one. what he will take out of this will be an interesting bit. pretty solid, basically. might just brush it in. jim: this is to close it out. well, that will do.
6:39 pm
he will have a final round of 2-under par. at first it is brendon de jonge. it has been a tough day come to a close here for a 76. >> he has a uniqueness in his swing coming over the top. started to mis-hit it on the face. and that is why they were not fading back today. again, part of the big learning curve. new sensations in your body and mind trying to compete on a sunday afternoon especially on the stage with tiger in it.
6:40 pm
jim: i think that will be a 77 for brendon de jonge, which drops him out of the top 10. what did you think of bo's performance here today? >> well, very steady. beautifully controlled game. suddenly when the door was open for him on 16, he got a 6-iron in his hand. tiger is laid up. if he put that one 30 feet in the middle of the green and put the pressure on tiger, who knows what will happen after that. badly misjudged the lie on a
6:41 pm
bank. jim: that was another opportunity. that is playing those shots. any time you have your right hand on the steel of the shaft it takes out all of the leverage. jim: a round of 71. second alone. another victory for tiger. 74th career win. his third of the year. and let's go down to david feherty. >> thank you jimmy. tiger, this is a special place
6:42 pm
for you obviously. the last time you walked on with the lead -- >> i did. >> i know you keep in touch with him. putt on 1, you looked like a man i used to know. >> it was just on top of the right edge. i felt very comfortable with it. just controlled the pace and moved on about my business. >> what a shot into the last. you and joe came to the conclusion you can hit a 9-iron 190 yards. >> 159 front and looking at 10 on. downhill hot, ball is flying. nice, smooth 9-iron. anything that lands 165-17 on 0 will be perfect. i saw it and i hit it. >> stunning performance and puts you into second all alone by yourself in all-time wins on the pga tour in front of your military family and what seems like family this crowd. >> what an incredible week. staff, maintenance crew and

6:50 pm
out with friday night's storms, this is still the big story of why we had these power outages. we had this line of thunderstorms come through. that whole line taking everybody down with it. we saw wind gusts over 70 miles per hour. we were talking about yesterday. that's equivalent to hurricane force wind gusts. you see it made its way to the eastern shore and eventually out to sea. behind it, a look at doppler radar and show you that what we have going on. here's a look at that storm. off to the northwest this is really building into a big complex and it's going to continue tracking to the east- northeast. this is still hours away. we could see these storms moving our direction. and so far they have had the history of being severe. now with all the power outages the other major issue is the heat. temperatures for the fifth day in a row in the 90s and they are up there in the 90s. during the day the dewpoints
6:51 pm
come down a little bit but it's still tacks on to the heat index. 100degrees in elkton and 100 in ocean city. we still have the heat continuing throughout the week. continued chances also on and off for baltimore. and this is the latest, two people were killed due to the storm. stay with wjz for updates any time you can log on to wjz.com. stay with us we've got more coming up right after this. ,,,,

>> i got to tell you if i'm on one of those boats i've been tempted to jump out and get into that water. >> that was a little farther out. >> just off the point. even the harbor has to be hotter. >> it's closer to 80 degrees. >> which is wonderful. >> we have a lot going on. fortunately we haven't had any thunderstorm today to help with the clean up effort but the day is not true. what's off to our northwest is moving in our direction and it's just really strengthening over about the last two hours. we also see just off to our south, that's what's left from the storm that moved through on
6:55 pm
friday. this atmosphere is really recharging right now. there has been reports of severe weather. notice how we put it into motion. that takes it back into an hour and half. look at how this is growing and getting together. we've got a few hours before probably closer to the 11:00 show, we will see this going into maryland. it is hot outside, it's hot even when you have your air- conditioning but all the people without power, this is pretty tough. 97degrees is where we topped out so far today. the average continues to climb but it's still 87. this is our fifth straight day at 90 or higher. but it's still going to continue. 98 in dc. the dewpoints have come down but it's still tacked on a couple of degrees when you talk about the heat index. as we said this is going to continue and this is why. it's close to 100 in new york city. this heat continues to move in our direction. if this pattern were going to
6:56 pm
be locked through next weekend. there's very intense chances for thunderstorms. this is the next batch that's going to move our way. but another is going to follow that same path so the chance for strong thunderstorms overnight. and even as we head into the fourth of july. the front washes out as the next one approaches us but it keeps us in that same pattern. out in the waters, 15 to 20 knots. if you are not in the thunderstorms the wind is not that bad. but there is that chance for thunderstorms so be careful if you're headed out there. tonight 70 degrees for our low, tomorrow 94 for our high. we have the chance of thunderstorms tonight into tomorrow morning. on tuesday, 95 again the chance for a thunderstorm. on the fourth we could make another run for 100 degrees with the chance for thunderstorms. as a new storm system comes our way so there is that potential for severe weather also on the fourth. then we stay in the 90s for the
