good afternoon. here's what people are talking about and living through today. the heat and humidity that are wrapping themselves around this region sending even more people in search of some relief. in north baltimore these children were found cooling off in the pool. a man tried to get his gardening done early but still wearing a hat to shield him from some of the suns rays. taking a live look outside right now, sunshine, some building clouds and little in the way of wind or a breeze. a humid haze as well. seconds ago a heat advisory went into effect for baltimore and the surrounding counties. wjz is live with extensive first warning weather. mike schuh has the latest on how bge is working to get power back on. first tim williams is updating the souring temperatures. good afternoon, tim. good afternoon.

hope you're finding a way to stay cool. you know, we're looking at temperatures well above our averages already. we're going up from here. i will preface this by saying that our noon temperatures have not come in yet. these are the 11:00 temperatures. they will update here in the next few minutes, which means they're going to go up. 94 or last reported temperatures at bwi, 91 ocean city, 75 is the coolest spot in oakland, 97 in the nations capitol. you couple that with a dew point very high -- again, we start talking about the dew points being over 65 with these types of temperatures and it feels more like 101 on your scan around central maryland. it feels like 101 at the beach on the shore. because of these temperatures, as don mentioned, we have a heat advisory in effect for all those orange shaded counties, including baltimore city that just went into effect at noon, stays with

us until 8 p.m. on the shore where you see the red colors that's an excessive heat warning that goes into effect on saturday. we're expecting these temperatures to continue to rise. for more we sent it to marty bass. >> reporter: good afternoon. i want to show you a graphic that -- just to be honest all the cards face up on the table i think we're being conservative in our heat index numbers. i'm going to give you a for example. today we're talking about 98 with a heat index of 103. well, we're at 94 now with the heat index of 101. we're looking at 5 to 7 degrees bump up in the feel of the moment. so the 103 and 103 today and tomorrow at 98 may be too low. what if we have to put a 7 degree on saturday's 103, 110 heat index. sunday 95 with still 100 to maybe 102 heat

index. right there we're showing you the low ended. the high end -- the low end. the high end could be significantly more uncomfortable. we get into another difficulty. how are the power grids going to handle the demand on saturday. now put onto that discussion the fact we have a slight risk today particularly in western maryland from hagueers town on west of a couple of thunderstorms. it's not like we have any organized storms marching our way. because the atmosphere is going to have to flex and relax at some point, any thunderstorm that pops up could be locally gusty. we're in for a tough couple of days. more on that discussion coming up shortly. now throw it back inside. >> thank you. our first warning weather coverage continues now. mike schuh is live in baltimore with the progress beb -- bge is making.

>> reporter: these trees are the gifts that keep on giving. they're the things that brought these wires down and now they're on top of a lot of the wires and their what has to be pulled up before they can be fixed. in some cases emergency cuttings have been going on. when the city would do this, they could clear it from curb to curb, three car widths wide. when bge did it they only cut what they needed to cut to get their trucks through to get these lines restrung. these are the kinds of decisions they're making all over the baltimore area. >> in from mississippi, we're in harry bucket truck. look at the south side of bwi. this shows just some of the out of state crews lining up to head out. there's another lot just like this in middle river. in this bucket only room for our photographer, lenny wright. >> this is some amazing stuff. i'm all the way up. 65 feet in the air. >> the heat has been a factor for these lineman, some more

than others. >> this is warm but it's hot. you got about 98% humidity and 101 feeling hot. >> in north baltimore a mix of tree cutters, bge and outside crews working two jobs to restore over 150 people. >> it seems like you flip the switch because when they see us do that the lights come back on. usually it takes a few hours to get to that point. >> it's the same story, they have enough lineman but there are so many trees down that that's what's taking the time. >> high winds brought down the trees on the lines. those same gusts blew this tree into sandra buck's home. >> i'll be 70 this month. i spent saturday and sunday out here trying to get my front door open. i'm exhausted. >> her outage is complicated by this tree. special tree cutters are being called and heavy

to see those on the road. there are fewer than 50,000 bge customers without power. the majority in baltimore county with 22,000 homes without electricity there. there are 13,000 out in baltimore city and nearly 3,000 in howard county. you can see the numbers there in ann arundel as well. wjz 13 is always on for you. for the latest first warning weather forecast and your live look at doppler weather radar go to wjz.com. we have some breaking news this noon. a judge sets bail for the second time for neighborhood watch volunteer george zimmerman, the one charged in the murder of trayvon martin. a florida judge granted bond to zimmerman just a few minutes ago. this time the bail is set at $1 million. the judge revoked his $150,000 bond after prosecutors told them he and his wife misled the court about the money they had. zimmerman is charged with second degree in trayvon martin's death.

there's some breaking news in baltimore city this moon. police say a man has been shot in the 300 block of laurens street. he was rushed to a hospital but there's no word on his condition. no arrests have been made. so far no word on a possible motive. in eastern baltimore county, a body found in the water may be that of a missing jet skier. the man was found dead floating in the water last night just hours before the coast guard suspended its search for 47-year-old harry gillis after his jet ski washed up in that area on tuesday. at this point the body has not been positively identified. the search of the house in city ends with the arrest of an drug dealer. they searched charles wilson's home. they found $11,000 cash, flis scanner, weapon -- police scanner, weapons and some illegal drugs. wilson faces drug possession and drug trafficking charges.

the president is hoping on a bus that will wind him through two battleground states today. he's campaigns in towns with big auto plants, those that helped him win back in 2008. here's danielle nottingham reporting for wjz. >> president obama headed to ohio to kick off his two state betting on america bus tour. first stop the small northern ohio manufacturing town of momi. >> i think he's been a great president because he had so much to contend with. it's not how far you get, it's you you start. >> like much of northern ohio, high unemployment has hit hard. the president is there to make the case that he's done all he can to help the economy. recent economic numbers are making it hard. in june manufacturing shunk. >> the white house is using the bus tour to announce it's filing a unfair trade complaint against

well, taking a look at what is typical hot, humid, hazy day in july, expect for this one -- except for this one is hotter and more humid. our temperatures have upped from the top of the show. we started at 94. were at 96 -- we're at 96 right now and we're going up from here. the record today is 104, so we're not going to challenge the record.

the heat index will be well above that. we already started to jump in leaps and bounds with what it feels like. the winds from the west bringing in warm air at 10 miles an hour. it's not a breeze. 72 your dew point, a lot of moisture in the air. 82 in the coolest spot in the state. 91 cumberland, 94 on the shore, temperatures in the low 90s around central maryland. 105 is what it feels like as of the noon hour, it feels like 93 cumberland and 83 in the mountains. 10 mile an hour winds coming in from the west. it is out to the northwest we have a few showers firing up. we're expecting most of that to stay to the west. as marty showed you, the slight risk for
