good afternoon. it's certainly no surprise what people are talking about today, the heat advisory currently in effect as we are reaching scorching temperatures. take a look at the sun coming up this morning. you can almost feel the heat coming off it and your flat screen tv at this point. if you're trying to keep cool this man had the right idea, that water must have felt good. that one maybe not. take a live look outside right now. the sun just beating down with no breeze and plenty of humidity. we're live with first warning weather. mike schuh will be around in a moment with the dangerous of the heat and the bge repairs continuing. first tim williams is in the weather center. this is just another day. we've had these warm days.

it's getting hotter before we start to see real relief. right no -- now temperatures at 91. the national weather service updates the temperatures. by the time we check in again in the next few minutes the noon temperatures will be registers and guarantee they'll be warmer than 91. 91 in dc, 88 on the shore, 77 is the cool spot in oakland. you factor in that dew point, which is lower than it has been at 58, we have a heat index that feels just about one degree lower. the dew point is actually giving us just a little bit of a break. none the less, we have an excessive heat watch in effect for the entire area, much of central maryland through this evening and then again through tomorrow and then on the eastern shore with heat watches and severe thunderstorms out in the we were portion of the county. that is a watch there because things could fire up much like they did yesterday evening. so let's talk about how this plays into the next few

days. for more on that, sending it out to most marty bass. >> reporter: for ecast actual temperatures today, tomorrow and sunday. i know we're talking about a calm heat index right now. we're going to see this afternoon really start to get on a roll. we hit 101, that 107 is not out of the question. the good news today is we might be a little bit too high on that number. tomorrow though unfortunately we're not. 103 is the forecast high. we could see it blast up to a feel of about 110. sunday 95. going to get a break because of the umbrella effect, a few clouds that will be the leading edge of a cold front moving our way. we're still going to see a heat index of 100. here is the good news. there is very little doubt in anyone's mind as we take a look at this graphic that a cold front is going to come in here sunday night and break the back

customers who have been out the longest. >> the ones waiting? >> absolutely. you're at the top of our priority list. >> back at that job site sean may be miserable but he keeps reminding himself why he's working in 100 degree heat. >> it's better than sitting at home and making no money. that's what motivates me. i have a girlfriend at home, baby on the way. >> got to go to work? >> absolutely. >> he's thankful his job is not shade and says he has plenty of water to help keep himself up right. >> reporter: now, i talked to a number of lineman over the past week. they say they're getting to four and five jobs per day. when they slow down their workload, that means they may only get to four or three. these jobs are going to go well into the weekend.

the over all unemployment rate remained at 8.2%. diane was laid off from the theater industry and went on more than 100 interviews. >> when you're doing everything right and still not getting a job it makes you more fruted. you fish -- frustrated. you wish you knew there was something you could change. >> the economy has gained an average of 150,000 jobs a month. that's down from last year and a sign the labor market is using seam. >> manufacturing added 11,000, the 9th straight month of gains. health care and financial services increased hiring. president obama commented from the battleground state of ohio. >> we've got to grow the economy faster and we have to put more people back to work. >> she finally landed a job at a nonprofit and hopes to be there for a long time. she said keeping a positive attitude is the most important thing. >> i think a little personality

and a sense of humor goes a really long way. >> hiring in june picked up slightly, but nearly 13 million americans are still looking for work. >> wall street is not reacting well to this current job's report. the dow was down 173 points, the s and p off 17, the nasdaq down almost 47. a man remains behind bars after a police involved shooting. it happened last night just off campus. officers shot the man as he tried to steal a police cruiser. nobody else was hurt. pools in ann arundel county are required to keep did fib rilators. it's -- did fiblators. ron matz is live with more on what this means and how the law came about. >> reporter: conner's law is named after 5-year-old conner

it is sunny and 93 degrees in central maryland. your complete forecast still coming up. we learn more about the cabin cruiser that capsized off long island killing three children. it was heading back into land after a fire works show on july 4th when the 34 foot boat flipped ped over and sank. 27 people were on board at the time. safety experts say that's too many. 24 were rescued by three children, 8, 11 and 12 were in the cabin and drowned. in arizona a woman is underarrest accused -- under arrest accused of putting beer in her 2-year-old sippy cup. the woman is being held on suspicion of child abuse. wait
