going to trial, anne arundel county executive will have to face charges against him in court. why a judge denied his request to throw out the chargeless. >> hello everybody i'm denise koch and here is what people are talking about tonight. when september comes anne arundel chief will stand trial despite trying to fight the charges against him. >> reporter: this is a big win for prosecutors, a judge has ruled that john leopold will stand trial on four counts of misconduct in office and one count of misuse of taxpayer money.

>> reporter: denied, denied, denied, a judge shoots down attempts to dismiss charges against county executive john leopold. leopold is accused of using his security detail to drive him to sexual encounters in public parks and to spy on public attorneys. >> i'm very confident when all the relative facts are known that we will prevail. >> reporter: leopold lawyers argue that charges of misconduct are too vague, but judge sweeney says the court cannot conclude at this stage that it must be dismissed for being unconstitutionally vague.. legal analyst wamken says they've shared 90 boxes of evidence with the defense. >> seems to be significantly

roads. w jz is live. kai jackson explains how the heat wave is destroying roadways. >> reporter: the heat has broken but the heat wave destroyed roadways. >> the humidity is down, but the temperatures are still hot. >> reporter: the fact that 80 degrees weather feels like relief demonstrates just how hot it's been. further proof of that is the damage to infrastructure done by the heat wave. eastbound rout 50 and buoy prince georges county buckled a casualty of the heat. the state highway administration moved quickly to make temporary repairs yet more work is needed. >> the black top is a temporary fix because this is concrete we're going to need to come in at a later date which we will determine, we'll send out news releases and make a more permanent repair uses concrete itself. >> reporter: at reagan national

off drowned. rochele richie talks to devastated family members in fredricksburg. >> reporter: tonight all three of their families are in mourning and trying to figure out how to pay for funeral costs. just four days after giving birth to her son she prepares to bury her youngest sibling. >> when i found out he was dead i felt like i was dead. >> reporter: young yamou had dreams of doing karate but on saturday he would lose the fight of his life. >> i said i promise you when i drive i will take you to karate school. >> reporter: maryland natural resource police believe dona, 12-year-old christopher gabriel and 12-year-old vladimir would try to cool off in the pool. >> the water is calm when it's high tide it's really misleading. there's a big drop off as soon as you go into the river. >> reporter: none of the boys

rusting inside the main. further testing begins tomorrow morning. the end of an era for the city fire department. fire closures end as three companies are shutting down for good. black tape covers the number on city fire truck 10 it's the sign of loss, a sort of death in the family. truck 10 is one of three fire companies closed under a major restructures plan that eliminating the rotating closures forced on the fire department years ago by budget cuts. >> what this simply means is that every single day 24 hours a day we know exactly where all of our fire suppression companies are. >> reporter: effective today the fire company of about two dozen firefighters that operating truck 15 in east baltimore and the company operating squad 11 near john hopkins bellview are no more. those firefighters have all been reassigned to other fire

stations and to ensure all communities will be covered, several trucks will be rerouted. >> i just want people to know when they call 911, they're going to get the same service. >> we're going to fight to keep that open forever. >> reporter: from the beginning, the fire department denied the closure. during last week's massive storm those three companies were responsible for 57 calls in just 24 hours. >> that tells me it's out of hand. and again i know that was emergency situations after a storm but when is the next one coming? >> reporter: the fire union president says he hasn't given up hope that the closed fire stations will be reopen but

one man in virginia. officials say a truck crossing the median and two lanes of a busy road before slamming into a gas pump at a convenience store parking lot in henry go county. the store manager was inside when he heard the loud sound. >> it was the worse thing i've ever heard in my life. it was like a big sound, like cars hitting something. and when i looked it was only my parking lot. >> switches were shut off to prevent the gas from igniting. the cause of crash remains under investigation. orange county bomb squad investigators safely detonated the six grenades and other explosive devices. the backpack was deteriorated when it was discovered and officers say it may have been there for a long period of time. an investigation is ongoing. >> video of a tourist robbed

and stripped naked in downtown baltimore outraged people in san francisco. but now the suspects pled guilty. but they escaped the most serious charges. >> reporter: the case involving this humiliating attack on a tourist on st. patricks day comes to a close. in a downtown courtroom just feet away from where the assault took place, four suspects plead guilty. aaron parsons received a sentence of three years in jail with all but one suspended. more than a half of million people have seen the video of parsons throwing that first punch. >> he offered an apology to both the victim and the city because he knew that he knows that he brought -- to the city. because he knows it cast a

could receive a lifetime ban from cycling and be stripped of his seventh tour de france victories. a violent brawl interrupts a little league game in georgia, take a look. police say the fight began when a parent from the opposing team asked another fan to lower his music. the father's heated word escalated into an attack. officers say they tackled one another to the ground. those fans were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. a rise in shark sightings off of cape cod has sparked an intense search. officials are keeping an eye on the water and are clearing beaches when necessary. they say a greater number of gray sharks have been turning up because more seals are migrating to the area. a kayaker from new jersey came within arms reach of one this weekend. >> it was in the shark's hands in my opinion he was there. what he wanted to do was up to

couple of showers even a few rumbles of showers are going to pop up. this is what most of us are seeing just a few clouds comeing in because of the showers -- few clouds coming in because of the showers. with that front just to our south we're on the cooler side of that front. 74degrees is where we are in baltimore right now, 80 in dc. that's a warm summer night but just two nights ago we only dropped down to 82 degrees. closer to our high today. 86 is where we topped out. the average is 88. we're not talking about records right now we're going to be closer to or slightly below the average for the rest of this forecast. so, just off to our north that's where our air is coming from and for the next couple of days we'll be bottling the heat to our west at least for now. here's the bottom with the jet stream it was a huge -- that was bringing the cold air.

keeping that front just off to our south here. so the chance for a shower or thunderstorms again tonight and tomorrow and as we head into wednesday, then as we head through the second part of the week the front is going to come back to the north starting thursday night and increasing our chances once again. so when we put it together you can see there is a low riding along that but it doesn't really go that far just sort of meanders around from day-to- day. then starts to come back over maryland. we have an east wind of five to 10 knots. that's outside of any thunderstorms. bay temp is up there 83 degrees. tonight we're going down to 68. there's an isolated chance for a thunderstorms. chance for a shower or thunderstorm around. with tons of clouds and sunshine. take a look at the next couple of days we're into the 80s. >> okay, thank you, vern. baseball's best gather for the all star game. three orioles are invited to three orioles are invited to the party ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
