the former assistant football coach was convicted last month of molesting ten boys. but eight months after sandusky's arrest, it remains unclear how top administrators of the school responded to reports sandusky had acted inappropriately with children. as the scandal unfolded last fall, penn state's board of trustees commission former fbi director conducted an investigation. the team of investigators interviewed hundreds of people and today's report could show that top officials at the school covered up sandusky's behavior. the report is expected to focus on tim curley and ex vice president gary schultz. the two officials decided not to tell authorities about a 2001 incident in which graduate assistant mike mcqueary said he witnessed sandusky sexually abusing a boy in a campus shower. curley and schultz are awaiting trial on criminal charges they lied to a grand jury that was investigating sandusky. attorneys for sandusky's victims

will be interested in the findings as it will likely have an impact on future lawsuits. also a close eye on the report, relatives of the legendary football coach, joe paterno. he was fired as a result of the scandal and died shortly after his ouster. this week his family fended off reports suggesting he may have tried to protect sandusky. on tuesday, they released a statement reading in part, "jerry sandusky was a master deceiver. he fooled players, coaches, law enforcement officials, child service professionals, penn state board members, university leaders, neighbors, donors, staff and supporters of second mile and his family." yesterday, the family did more damage control releasing a letter written by paterno himself shortly before he died. in it he tries to distance the penn state football program from the scandal. "this is not a football scandal and should not be treated as one. that penn state officials would suggest otherwise is a disservice to every one of the over 500,000 living alumni."

today's report is also expected to shed light on how much former penn state president graham spanier knew. attorneys for spanier say he was never informed of any of the allegations involving jerry sandusky. now to politics. as expected, the house voted again to repeal president obama's health care law. yesterday's vote was the 33rd time the house voted to eliminate or scale back the law. the vote was 244 to 185. five democrats voted with the republican majority. like the other republican attempts, the measure is expected to die on the democrat-controlled senate. polls indicate more americans oppose the president's health care law than support it. the notable exception, african-americans who say they strongly support the affordable care act. that was made loud and clear to mitt romney when he addressed the naacp convention in houston. jan crawford reports. >> if you want a president to make things better in the african-american community, you are looking at him. >> the boos and jeers started about halfway through his speech

when romney said he would repeal president obama's signature achievement, health care reform. >> i'm going to eliminate every nonessential expensive program i can find. that includes obama care. i'm going to work to reform and save -- [ boo'ing ] >> that's a talking point in all of romney's speeches and part of his plan to jump-start the economy. the crowd didn't like it or any of romney's criticism of president obama. shirley smith of washington, d.c. was one of those who booed. >> he made it very clear he was trying to bring jobs to the black community at the naacp. i thought that was a lie. >> but there were some moments a polite applause, as when romney talked about helping the middle class. >> i don't just mean for those who are middle class now. i also mean for those who have waited so long for their chance to join the middle class. [ applause ] >> romney isn't the first republican presidential contender to address the naacp. but for nominees like john mccain it didn't translate into

votes. running against mr. obama four years ago, mccain got 4% of the african-american vote. well below the 11% george w. bush received when he ran against john kerry in 2004. now, the president's support and his approval ratings remain high among african-americans, but democrats are worried about turnout. and romney's hoping his economic message will resonate, at least to the point that voters aren't motivated to turn out against him. jan crawford, cbs news, houston. today the cbs news, charlie rose will sit down with an exclusive interview with president and mrs. obama which you'll see portions beginning on friday on "cbs this morning" and then on cbs sunday morning. congressman's jesse jackson's unexplained absence from the house continues to raise questions this morning. his office says he's receiving intensive medical treatment for a mood disorder. tara mergener reports from washington, d.c.

>> representative jesse jackson, jr., has been out on a leave of absence for more than a month now with little explanation as to why. more than two weeks after abruptly leaving his office issued a cryptic statement saying mr. jackson was suffering from exhaustion. a week later they issued another release saying jackson's condition was more serious than originally thought and that he was receiving extended inpatient treatment. >> i think you've heard enough that he has some health challenges. >> but not everybody was satisfied with those explanations. >> i think the family would be well-advised to give his constituents as much information as is appropriate. >> as a public official, though, there reaches a point where you have a responsibility to tell people what you're facing and how things are going. >> with pressure mounting for many of his colleagues here on capitol hill, congressman jackson's office issued a third

statement on wednesday. this one was from an unnamed doctor. it read, "the congressman is receiving intensive medical treatment as a residential treatment facility for a mood disorder. he's responding positively to treatment and is expected to make a full recovery." minority leader, nancy pelosi says the congressman will be welcomed back when the time is right. >> i hope that we will hear soon that he's on the way to recovery. he's a valued member of congress. congressman jackson's family is calling on o the public to respect his privacy so he can get well. jackson has been facing ongoing ethics investigation. he's accused of trying to influence former governor rod blagojevich to appoint him to president obama's vacant seat. >> tara mergener in washington. thanks for hanging with us. defected and says he's siding with the opposition. he's the most senior diplomat to turn on president bashar assad.

more from new york. >> good morning, duarte. more signs of an economic slowdown in china sent stocks sliding. the nikkei fell 1.5% and the hang seng dropped 2%. on wednesday, the federal reserve released the minutes of its june meeting. the minutes show fed policy makers are split over whether to take action to support the u.s. economy. several members of the committee say they would support further stimulus only if the economy deteriorated. that news sent stocks on wall street plunging. the dow fell more than 100 points before finishing 48 points lower. the nasdaq lost 14. a new report suggests a wave of foreclosed homes could be hitting the market next year. according to realty trac, the number of homes entering the foreclosure process for the first time increased in june. lenders began foreclosure on 12% of the loans that were behind in payments. that is the highest level since june of 2009. and american students need to hit the books in order to reach president obama's goal of having the u.s. rank first in college graduates. according to the education

with volleyball? >> the very first day. when i was ten years old, i fell in love with volleyball. prior to that, i thought i was going to be a giants pitcher or in the nba for the warriors. >> it was here on the basketball court of archbishop mitty high school that the volleyball player got noticed. the principal said walsh stood out. >> there was everybody else and a couple layers and then kerri. no doubt about that. >> the scrawny high schooler was named best athlete three years in a row leading victories to the basketball and volleyball teams. >> when people are talking about her, i'm like oh, she went to my high school. that's kerri walsh, i know her. >> she had her own hero, misty may treanor who became her partner. >> i got her autograph at age 14 and i've been playing with her for ten years. >> the duo went on to win gold in athens in 2004 and again in beijing four years ago. but with misty ready to retire, london will be their last match together.

was hit by lighting equipment on the set of the good wife in new york city. a witness told tmz.com the 43-year-old was "knocked out cold" when a gust of wind blew down the equipment yesterday. she was treated and taken to the hospital. her medical condition, not disclosed. 50 years ago today, july 12, 1962, a brash young band called the rolling stones played for the first time at a club in london. an exhibition opens tomorrow featuring photos of mick jagger, keith richards and company over the past half century. the stones have recorded dozens of albums released more than 100 singles and played thousands of shows. rumor has it, they'll be back on tour next year. over the years, television has turned distant events into shared experiences for millions around the world. for a new survey, americans were asked to name their own most memorable tv moment and the one that tops the list will come as no surprise. here's anthony mason. >> among the billions of images that have flickered over our television screens in the past
