parallel main that's also very old. so while the street is going to be ripped up, we're going to take the whole block, instead of doing a patchwork type of situation, it's much more holistic now, much more proactive to say we're going to take both of these lines up. >>reporter: meaning this won't be fixed the next time you turn on the news. try the first week in august. what caused this? >> age. no doubt. >>reporter: back now live, contractors are in here. what you're seeing is temporary water main being laid down and they're doing that because this repair is going to take so long. they realize they need to get water to these buildings earlier in the morning. they said maybe until tomorrow before they get water. but as far as this whole plok, it's going to be torn up -- block, it's going to be torn up and rebuilt. a lot of traffic headaches to come. reporting live downtown, mike shu, wj displ news. >> pack your patience. now we go to sky eye chopper 13 and captain jeff

welcome back, everybody. isn't that nice? see if we can join them, a beautiful place to be. we have great shots of everybody out there on the water. it's going to be another hot one if you're not on the water. 95 outside right now, 93 in d.c. the dewpoints have come down as the temperatures are going up. it's still going to be hot outside. when we show you the heat index, notice it actually brings it down a degree. regardless, it's hot out there today and it's going to be hot again tomorrow because of the air mass that is still baking a good portion of the country. yesterday there were 90s in north dakota. they're now down to the 60s. so there's a cold front right in here and it is going to move our way. not quite yet, though. today we are way up there, close to 100 degrees for our high. the record is 101. but notice this cold front. it comes our way tomorrow. and when it does, it can produce maybe strong to severe thunderstorms as we head through the late day hours. here's how it looks right now,
