interview out rage, george zimmerman's first televised interview. >> why trayvon martin's parents are so upset. >> here's what people are talking about. >> george zimmerman said the death of trayvon martin was all part of god's plan in a televised interview. he also apologizes. randall pinkston reports with the emotional reaction from trayvon's parents. >> the parents of trayvon martin say the god they worship would not want their son shot to death. >> i don't think god would have him in his plan to murder an innocent child. >> martin's parents and their attorney appeared on cbs this morning after george zimmerman sat down with his attorney for his first television interview. >> i feel that it was all god's plan. >> in his interview with fox news, the neighborhood watch

volunteer recounted how he called police after seeing martin in his apartment complex last february. he claimed the unarmed 17-year-old a -- approached him and started throwing punches breaking his nose. >> he said you're going to die tonight [beep]. >> zimmerman said he felt his life was in danger and he had no choice but to use his gun. >> i do wish there was something i could have done that wouldn't have put me in the position to take his life. >> he's looking to place the blame upon trayvon and he's the one that made the decision to get out the vehicle that night. >> martin's parents charge his story was full of inconsistencies and say they targeted his son because he's black. >> i just don't believe what he says. it hurts a great deal. >> zimmerman faces a charge of second degree murder. he is free on a $1 billion bond.

>> zimmerman also said he can't imagine what martin's parents must feel like and that he prays for them every day. a developing story from ocean city at this hour. a small plane crashes killing the pilot. denise is in the news room. >> reporter: an ocean city banner plane crashes just after 11:00. it went down near the airport. only the pilot was in the plane when it crashed. witnesses say the plane appeared to have being engine trouble after dropping the advertising banner. the plane's wing looked like it hit a large tree before it crashed to the ground. the faa will help state police with the investigation. >> thank you. earl ier this week an experienced pilot died when his small plane crashed. that accident is also under investigation. police in annapolis are showing off results of a signature drug bust.

detectives uncover illegal drugs and guns. community complaints led police to homes. police found heroin, loaded handguns, marijuana and crash. charges are pending against two men. we are learning more today about the suspect in wednesday's bus bombing in bulgaria. five tourists and the bus driver was killed. that suspect was carrying a fake us driver's license. >> airport surveillance video shows the suspected bomber shortly before the deadly attack on the tourists. the man was dressed as a tourist, wearing a baseball cap and plaid shorts and carried a make michigan driver's license -- a fake michigan driver's license. the attack happened wednesday. the severely injured are recovering in local hospitals. >> i feel my legs breken.

attack. >> the bombing coincided with the 18th anniversary of an attack that killed 85 people. the massacre at fort hood could have been prevented according to a new report. before army major killed 13 people in 2009 he sent e-mails to terrorists in 2008. antiterrorism forces monitoring the e-mails decided the e-mails were not threatening and no investigation was opened. he went to school in maryland. he's currently on trial for the shooting. more backlash today over a congresswoman's acquisition that members of the obama administration may have tied to islamic extreme i tremists -- extremists. >> michelle batch man is facing

more criticism that a top aid to secretary of state hill are ri clinton may have tied to egypt's brotherhood. >> i think these acquisitions are dangerous. >> the congresswoman and four other conservative lawmakers sent letters to intelligence pointing to clinton's deputy chief of staff. they wrote she has three family members, her late father, her mother and brother connected to muslim brotherhood operatives and/or organizations. she was born in the u.s. her marriage to former congressman anthony weaner pushed her into the spotlight. leading members of congress say the attacks against her need to stop. >> these attacks have no logic, no basis and no merit. >> the state department describes batch man's acquisitions as vicious and

disgusting lies. the congresswoman says she will not be silenced. batch man claims her letters are being distorted and she want s to know what access radicals have. this is not the first time batch man has made head line with her investigation. in 2009 she called on the media to find out if some members of congress are anti-american. >> batch man's former campaign chief said she's being extreme and dishonest. it's not as hot today but humidity is making things sticky. here's a live look outside at mostly ly cloudy skies. -- mostly cloudy skies. let's go to tim williams tracking temperatures. >> good afternoon. the dew points are still very high, even though the temperatures have dropped just a little bit, down to about 92 at bwi. when you say down to 92, you know where

we started. take a look at the radar, we'll give you an idea of what's happening outside. the winds are coming in from the northwest and that's bringing in some cooler air clashing with the hot air that's in place. we have some widely scattered pop up showers and some light thunderstorms around the area right now. we do have a few. we have just a few down towards ocean city that are popping up as well down near berlin seeing showers and thunderstorms. those showers are going to help drop our temperatures. we have a bigger batch moving in from the west, but several hours away from moving in. we will continue to monitor their progress and talk about how it's going to impact us coming up. a step in the right direction for some businesses effected by the massive downtown water main break. mike hellgren is live in the news room with an update. >> reporter: wjz learned of all

the businesses that had to close because of the water main break are reopen. they set up a temporary water system that is now supplying water to them. the supplies and equipment needed to remove the broke main continue to arrive there. they are sticking with their 3 week estimate before the road is reopened. here is christy breslin at wjz traffic control. you can give us a realtime update. >> well, it's definitely going to be heavy traffic in the city for the next 3 weeks as they said is expected. we have the road closures, east lombard is closed also, the two right lanes are blocked. expect heavy traffic for pratt. northbound 95 delays stretch from the beltway to the tunnel. stop and go from york road. the west side of the inner loop, heavy

it is 92 degrees, partly cloudy in central maryland. the complete first warning weather forecast skoming -- is coming up. a tourist records the devastating result of he send it over to marty rain. -- heavy rain. the road in and out of the park remains closed while the mud is claened -- is cleaned up. a 3-year-old boy is rescued after being stuck in a storm drain for 24 hours. the little boy was found ub merged up to -- submerged up to his chin in water. his parents reported him missing the day before. rescuers said they searched this

particular sewer once and the boy was not there. for some reason they decided to search again and there he is. we are told he is recovering in the hospital, expected to do okay. >> what video. a new study is offering hope to people with egg allergies. researchers gave children very small amounts of egg, curing many of their allergies. >> 10-year-old has to careful about what he heats. -- he eats. >> right now i'm aher gi to peanut -- aher going to peanuts and dairy. >> one food he no longer has to worry about is egg. he took part in a study. doctors gave children with egg allergies tiny amounts of the food every day over a 2 year period. at the end 75% of children were able to

tolerate a lot for egg when started. 20% were able to get rid of their egg allergy completely. >> i love eggs now. >> egg is a very common food allergy. most children out grow it by age 5, some can have it all their lives. having an egg allergy having difficult because eggs are in so many other foods like bred and dessert. >> he loved fresh toast. >> researchers warn parents to not try this without medical super vision. >> we need to do more to find out who is this right for, what is the right regular men and can we move this to regular clinical practice. >> he had to endure blood work and i v's but said it was worth it. >> it wasn't cool but it paid off at the end. >> hi mom hopes the research -- his mom hopes the research will lead to cures for her son's other allergies.

the average rate on a 30 year loan is now 3.53%. the owners of some ford escapes are being told not to drive them because the engines can catch fire. ford is recalling more than 11,000 escapes because the fuel lines can crack and leak. it effects only 2013 models. ford says fewer than 5,000 of the suv's have been sold to customers. jc penny wants to do away with its check out counters to say money. the struggling department store chain says in the next 2 years all of its stores will have self-check out. that's your money watch. for more, read to cbsmoneywatch.com. in florida a boater has a close encounter with a shark. the rare sight was caught on tape by a spear fisherman. he dove into the water and

all right. we cleared up what that woman was holding. >> what was it? >> a king crab. >> okay . >> it looked like a big spider. >> with a shell. >> with a shell. it's actually very tasty but not so good to look at. >> yeah. there's a lot of things you don't want to see how they're prepared. you would rather eat the crab legs, you don't want to see the whole crab. >> it's much more interesting to talk about this than our weather outside. it's just like a mop out there. it feels like we've all been steaming like crabs for the last few weeks. you were right on target. >> set you up. >> yes , you did set me up. it is very steammy out there. kai asked the question if the heat waive is broken why so steammy. well, the dew point. take a look at our current conditions. right now temperatures up just around 92. we're down from 95. we've had some showers moving

through the region. 92 certainly better and better feeling than it has been over the last few days. we just broke a record of 104 just a day ago. so 69 is the dew point. any time we get to dew points over that mid 60 range is when it starts to feel very muggy, very apressive, very tropical when the temperatures are in the upper 80s and 90s. when you combine that that's when you start to deal with a heat index, which we have today, which is around 100. you think the humidity is high, well, 47% relative humidity does not sound so bad, but it is that dew point. winds from the north bringing in some cooler air. that's the air that's clashing with this hot, humid air mass that's sitting over us right now. that is why we have those showers popping up. right now temperatures out towards oakland, 76. we have 92 at bwi marshall and down towards dc. the mid to upper 80s and low 90s

around columbia towards bwi. that northwest wind is going to be with us for the next few days. wherever the rain has come in, look at the temperatures cooling down, 72 detroit, 82 in chicago. this is the line of showers. it is that same front that is helping to break the back of that heat waive and it is still lingering. it's not clearing the area just yet. until it does, we're going to have that air coming in from the northwest, it's going to be bringing in cooler air, colliding with this very hot and humid air mass in place until that front clears the area we're going to have a chance for rain. we could see a half inch of rain up to an inch over the next two days. sunset today is at 8:29. tonight going town to down -- down to 70. the showers are starting to pop up now, but nothing too major.

iowa are continuing their search for two young cousins. >> reporter: the fbi said the team will use sonar equipment to search a lake for evidence. crews had been draining that lake but stopped today because the sonar equipment needs 6 feet of water to function properly. the 10-year-old and 8-year-old were last seen friday when they went out for a bike ride. the dive team is expected to happen tomorrow evening. >> family members fear the girls were abducted. a former lead investers in the john bena ramsey case said he's still holding out for an arrest. in his new book he questioned the theory an intruder was responsible. he doesn't say who he thinks killed her. police suspected family members but a grand jury dismissed the case. breaking news from philadelphia. police arrest a man if an attempted abduction caught on camera. mary is here with more. >> reporter: the little girl

put up the fight of her life to get away. today the suspect turned himself into police. >> startling video of the girl fighting off her attacker on south lee street in philadelphia. you see the girl walking with her 2 year old brother when a man comes up from behind. he picks her up, she starting kicking and screaming. the man drops her. >> it's a sick individual to do something like that. i want this creep off our streets immediately. >> today police did just that, arresting 33-year-old carlos figro. he turned himself in feeling the pressure after the video was released. >> because of the press conference they had yesterday and because of all the information, because of all of you sharing information, this defendant knew he couldn't keep walking the streets and people were going to come and get him. >> police said the girl did the right thing. >> for a little girl to be able to fight off a grown man, i'm

proud of her. >> the attack was caught on a surveillance camera by a neighbor's home and the suspect's car also caught driving away. >> it's skair ska scary -- it's scary. it's make ing people think their kids can't come outside. >> the suspect is facing charges, including aggravated assault and attempted kidnapping. >> on wednesday officials announced a $10,000 we ward was being offer -- reward was being offered for information. montgomery county is moving two dozen buses from its ride on system. two buses had a fire. as a result ride on will operate on a reduced schedule. a man is behind bars charged with impersonating a police officer. 33-year-old joshua jones went to a woman's home,

identified himself as a member of the sheriff's office. he told her he was there to serve a warrant and asked for her address. the woman immediately became suspicious and called police. officers later arrested jones at his home. over cast and a bit cooler tonight but the humidity still sticking around. take a live look outside, hazy skies around thunderstorms popping up here and there. let's go to bob turk. >> we have some storms not too far away, just east of the baltimore area. take a look at radar activities moving along that old stalled front. it will eventually move further to the south but that will give us a good chance of more rain coming up tonight and tomorrow. look at those showers around bel air, one near perry hall and some other stuff near rising sun and off to the northwest now this is moving through carroll county to westminster. i think we have a pretty good chance of getting this into the baltimore county area in the next 15 to 25

thousands of firefighters from around the east coast are arriving in baltimore for one of the largest public safety conferences in the nation. mike schuh reports, they are issued a serious challenge right from the start. >> as the firefighters pipe and drums warm up a daunting challenge has been issued, which will take some people into the sky. >> it's going to be in the share well. the firefighters are going to line up in the lobby of the hotel. they will climb the stairs all the way to the top floor, take the elevator down and climb it again. they will do that five times. >> because this building is not 110 stories? >> correct. >> that's the height of the world trade centers. many are in full turn out gear. >> everybody is busting my chops about it. my wife gave me a hard time. she said you're how old, they're 20. >> even for those in their 20s, 110 stories is hard work.

hazmat teams are responding to a sinking barge. the major concern is fuel leaking into the water. the owner says between 1,500 and 2,000 gallons were on board. a containment boom has been set up but it's not known how much fuel has leaked. the tug boat capsized in stormy

white cowboy hat and button up shirt. >> the injured officer tried to get chase but couldn't. the sheriff's department is investigating. >> at this point police have no motive for the shooting. one of the florida a&m band members charged in the hazing death of robert champion is speaking out. what he's saying about the university's role. here is kai in the news room. >> reporter: he said he learned about the band's hazing rich which he wills. -- rituals. he said the school knew what was doing on and turned a blind eye to it. he said the band could do specific chants to signature the hazing was about to begin. following a football game last november champion died on the bus. the band program has been suspended. on monday the school president was forced to immediately resign. >> 11 band members have been charged in champion's death. a protest by students from the university of california

some gusty winds at ocean city. that's moving slightly off to the south and southeast but could cause some flooding on the smaller roads so be careful. that front is going to go through the region over night and stall out. that means we have another chance of rain coming tomorrow and maybe even to saturday. take a look at temperatures. it's 92 at the airport, hue -- humidity is way up, 46%. the dew point at 69, was in the 70s early. only 81 in elkin, showers in that region and forth north and east new jersey and pennsylvania techl temperatures -- temperatures only in the 70s. it won't be stuck in the 70s. tomorrow kind of in between probably the mid upper 80s or some low 80s. 89 kent island,

rock hall 90, 88 westminster. i guarantee with the showers they will be in the 70s. we have a slight northwest wind here elkin it's already shifted to the east and we should see those here tomorrow. to the west a lot of showers and thunderstorms, some have been strong. they're going through indiana and kentucky down to the southeast. we may see some of these over night tomorrow and during the day tomorrow this front is going to stall out so we have a chance of getting more showers around thunderstorms. some good stuff in west virginia as you can see. it should begin to die out as we lose the sun. i think garrett county will see them in the next 2 to 3 hours. over the next 24 hours, not much changes with the front. cooler air, good chance of showers. on saturday could see some lighter rain and drizzle with winds off the ocean. thes going -- it's going
