eyewitness news received this that shows how water buckled the ceiling flooding the lobby. >> better to get it out of here. let the water drain off. >> reporter: the storm knocked 30,000 people off the electric grid with most near townsend. >> the draining is painfully slow in some places. vehicles rolled through water that covered tires in some area. on the street, countless cars were flooded and drivers were left bailing out water. mark craumer is one affected.

minnesota teens. two 13-year-old boys were swimming with a girl at lake superior when the current pull them out. the boys were able to climb to safety. as you can see, the girl was rescued a short time later. she's expected to be okay. british security is on high alert with one week to go before the start of the 2012 summer olympics. extra troops are on standby, but border will strike the day before the games begin. >> reporter: the royal marines go into the historical wall of the landmark. the queen's crown jewels and this year's olympic medals. the latest olympic security drew towards the capital. police tackled a man on his journey to east london. thousands of extra british

>> i thought it was a little person at first. a little squeegee. >> that is what it is. we probably have more work for that little person up there later this afternoon. we don't have anything severe on the radar right now. there's not a ton of very strong thunderstorm activity out there right now. there's a little bit coming from the west, but nothing like last night. there's still moisture out there, but without the extreme heat and the sun out there helping to fire these up, you can see from our key here, that it's just yucky and gray. there's thunderstorms out there, but not expecting things to fire up out there with the intensity we had last night. we're at 74 degrees and keep in mind, our average high now is 87. we're way below that. relative humidity is at 87%.

northeast wind courtesy of low pressure sitting off to the east, kind of back. i'll show you that in a second. 29.3 the barometer. 77 in cumberland. the warm spots down near the river and ocean city. we're between 72 as you can see in bel air and 81 as we see down towards d.c. and the d.c. suburbs. the 30-mile-per-hour winds at b.w.i. marshall is one of two readings as high as the double digits, up in elk ton. the low pressure system driving all the way back to keep things cool along the coastline, but it's spinning in a counterclockwise fashion but keeping the northeast wind off to the side. what we're watching is the front associated with the low, not really going anywhere for the next day or so.

a man propped open an exit door at this aurora, colorado, cinema and threw in a smoke canister. >> anytime anyone would get up, he would shoot them. no specific agenda. >> reporter: he's 24-year-old james holmes. they evacuated his apartment complex after the suspect allegedly made comments about explosives. >> our investigation determined that his apartment is booby trapped with apparent trip wires. it may be hours or days. >> reporter: the investigation into the crime continues with the community rallying together. >> we've taken a blow today, but we will get back on our feet and we will move ahead.

>> reporter: the president held a moment of silence and called for a day of prayer and reflection in memory of the victims. >> it's the reminder that life is very fragile. our time here is limited and it is precious. >> reporter: holmes could be in court as early as monday. i'm stacy reporting. >> movie theaters are making sure this doesn't happen again. the members will review security procedures in the wake of this shooting. with the coverage of the colorado shooting, kai jackson is in the newsroom with rob, a law enforcement expert with more on this. kai? >> yes, he's also a former member of the baltimore city police department. people remember you having that role. what do you gather from what you're seeing in colorado? >> i think law enforcement from a local, state and federal level has done a good job of

responding to the scene. they were there within 90 seconds and immobilizing bock technicians. just monitor to the news and listening to interviews, you had someone very intent on ensuring he was going to kill or seriously injure people. the planning process was for a period of time. >> with that in mind, people are asking, what can we do to protect ourselves in average movie theater in aurora, colorado. you've been to aurora. a small i nice town. when someone has that determination and preparation, is there anything you can do to stop it? >> i think motivated criminals are not easiest to stop, but any place, whether it's a movie theater, a nightclub, stadium or a mall, we really have to be the eyes and ears of everyone there.

special edition of 48 hours. scott pelley will anchor the report from colorado. an army sergeant from baltimore is among the latest killed in afghanistan. daniel rodriguez was a 10 year veteran and second deployment to afghanistan. sergeant rodriguez also did two tours in iraq. he is survived by his wife and three children. he's the sixth service member to die this year from baltimore and fifth in afghanistan. the price of oil continues to rise. the average price at the bump is up 11 cents to be higher in the coming weeks. if you're filling up around baltimore, we're spot on at the national average at $3.44 a

showers. just moving from randallstown into the baltimore county area. he was moving through the area in the next hour or two, a tenth of an inch. the heaviest activity is way out far western maryland and more activity later tonight. still pretty good stuff in western pennsylvania, eastern ohio to affect the region late tonight and because of the risk of heavier showers late tonight, there is, in fact, until 2:00 a.m. tonight, a flash flood warning in effect. and flash flooding could occur especially if you get an inch of rain within an hour considering how much rain some areas saw yesterday. tim is looking at some of the numbers. some of them are a whole month's worth of rain in less than a day. tim? >> they really are. even just yesterday at around 8

hi, kristy. >> hi, kai. well, things are just a mess right now. a significant delay begins at 395 to white marsh boulevard. at york road around edmonson avenue around 13 miles per hour. west side, inner loop over to security boulevard. expect 25 minutes in the direction and another 20 minutes to 95. as far as 70 goes in the westbound direction, just bumper to bumper from 29 to marysville road. as far as accidents go, milford mill and the water main break between east baltimore and lombard. let's now take a live look. things are jammed up pretty tight there at sandy point. that delay begins back at 97 and goes all the way to the bay

a car crushed by a train. police say it was because of alcohol and a wrong turn. they arrested a man for drinking and driving. he made a phone call for someone to pick him up. the second driver wasn't familiar with louisville and mistook it for a roadway. he was drinking and driving too. everyone was out of the way but the car? not so lucky. a deadly crash kills three people in up state new york. one vehicle burst into flames killing five people. the sixth person who died was in another vehicle. the state department of transportation vehicle was hospitalized in critical condition. a woman nearly killed after her crashed in the back of a trunk carrying t.p. poles made a miraculous recovery.

lee stole has the story. >> i was chewing on glass. >> reporter: she has one memory. >> what do you think? >> how thankful i am to be alive and have survived such a serious accident. >> reporter: the 36-year-old mother of four has prominent scars to remind her how serious her crash was. >> i had a depressed skull, was having seizures and a concussion. >> reporter: doctors removed bone from her hip to fill the hole. they were camping in montana and rushed back when they got word. >> i broke down into sobs. i was scared to death. >> she said, hi, mom. i don't think you should interrupt the vacation. i think you're just fine.

one week later, still no memory of the crash that almost killed her. >> i didn't understand why they were so concerned and wanting to come to the hospital and be with me. i really thought i just had a laceration on my head. >> state patrol say they're citing for following two closely behind the truck. she expected that decision. should the statue of joe paterno be removed from campus? kai jackson is live with more. kai? >> vic, that decision will make everyone happy. the school's board of trustees will determine whether the statue of joe paterno should be taken down. earlier this week, a plane flew over the campus. vic? >> kai. >> the sexual abuse remaining
