screening of batman in colorado. 14 people died, many many injured. let's go to teresa garcia in colorado. >> reporter: briefing colorado's governor has updated the community that 30 wounded remain in the hospital of those 11 are still critically injured. the hope is that the death toll does not go above 12. meanwhile you've got the community of aurora still grieving and will be for many many months and beyond to come. and they're out here on the corner putting up a row of candles, you can see them up there, they've got these signs that say gone but not forgotten. they continue to come by through the nigh. meanwhile across town you have investigators at james holmes boobie trapped apartment where he had a more elaborate plan for violence. it was chaos inside a packed movie theater after a heavily armed gunman threw smoke grenades and opened fire during a screening of batman the

movie. >> we have a number of people dead in the the theater. >> reporter: aurora police refuse to comment on word that holmes had his hair painted red and called himself the joker. jennifer seger says the suspect pointed a gun directly at her face. >> i didn't know what to do so i just jumped forward and crawled into a ball and waited for him to go upstairs. >> reporter: he fired an assault gun and at least one shotgun. some of those shots went through the wall into another theater. a man in a blood soaked shirt and a child in a batman costume were among hundreds that made it out alive. corbin dade was sitting on the front floor. >> i felt the caps from the bullet burning my leg. >> reporter: the university of colorado confirms holmes was dropping out of a class in

neuroscience. police found explosives in his car and apartment. >> his apartment is boobie trapped with apparent trip wires. >> reporter: the survivors include a 3 -month-old baby. >> she got shot. when she got shot, it was god watching over us. >> reporter: the suspect's family is cooperating with police and said their hearts go out to the victims. the shock, grief and sympathy are not just being felt in aurora. in fact, the queen of england sent a message to the president and the people of the united states that she expresses her heartfelt sympathy. as for james holmes, he is set for his first court date on monday. >> movie theaters here in maryland are boosting security in the wake of the rampage.

monique griego continues our coverage. >> reporter: moviegoers might see more patrols one thing they will not see is a lot of costumes. as aurora trys to come to grips police officers are upping their presence at theaters. >> i did it. it made sense to me, you never know there's a lot of weird people in the world. >> reporter: both baltimore city and county police say people heading to the movies should expect to see more officers on patrol. >> just simply a precaution and extra resources to make sure people have a safe and enjoyable time. >> reporter: while police don't know of any threats moviegoers were still happy to see the extra security. >> whether it happens for the first time or it happens at a copy cat action you're always going to have to be vigilant. >> reporter: consumers can also do their part. >> they feel in their gut if they observe something that is unusual. they should notify somebody because the little information they know could save their lives.

>> reporter: amc released this statement saying we will not allow any guests into our theaters in costumes that make other guests feel uncomfortable and we will not permit face covering masks or fake weapons inside our building. >> that's the best move they can make right now. people do want to go out and enjoy themselves and be safe. >> reporter: in addition to amc, other theaters are said to be doing bag checks and increasing their security. >> reporter: wjz has the latest on the tragedy and tonight's new developments. the suspect 24-year-old james holmes had four guns and 6,000 rounds of ammunition he bought on the internet. 12 people have died and the last of those bodies has been taken away from the movie theater. 70 are still recovering from injuries. officers have a confirmed list of the victims and are meeting with their families tonight. stay with wjz for complete coverage of this terrible mass

shooting. for the latest about the suspects log on to wjz.com. an mta bus is involved in a nasty crash with a truck headed the wrong way. the accident happened tonight on park heights avenue. the truck somehow ended up on the sidewalk stuck between the bus and someone's front lawn. no word on injuries. an unauthorized swim nearly claim it is life of a woman in ocean city. the ocean city beach patrol says three people were swimming tonight after hours and there was no life guard on duty. this photograph was sent in by a viewer just as the swimmers were pulled from the water. one woman required cpr and remains in the hospital tonight. an outbreak of hepatitis c in new hampshire. now linked to a medical technician who once worked at several maryland hospitals. at least 30 people in new hampshire have contracted the virus, so far no cases are connected in maryland. wjz is live, megan mccorkel is

live with the disturbing link. >> reporter: david corkowski was a traveling medic. investigators say 32-year-old david corkowski stole drugs, he used syringes to inject themselves, syringes that were then used on patients that contracted his hepatitis c. >> my daughter just got married she's going to have children in the future. who knows if i'm going to be around for them. >> reporter: he worked at four maryland hospitals. baltimore veteran's affair and john hopkins. he worked here at john hopkins from july of 2009 to january

2010. the hospital tells wjz200 patients were treated in the lab that the time. as a precaution, hopkins is contacting those patients and offering free hepatitis testing. but they reveal no clusters or groupings of hepatitis c. >> you go to the hospital and you assume it's one of the safest places to go. >> reporter: while treatable it can be deadly. >> that is one of the major causes of cancer in this country, hepatitis c. >> reporter: a serious health risk that came at the hands of someone patients trusted. federal officials say they believe he contracted hepatitis in june of 2010, that was after he left maryland. reporting live, megan mccorkell, wjz eyewitness news. >> all hospitals are contacting

patients who may have come in contact. security is a main concern in london tonight. the symbolic flame arrives in the city. 1,200 extra troops are on stand by and uk officers say they will be on alert. a royal marine repelled into the stone wall of this historic landmark. the torch will spend the night in a vault with the queen's crowned jewels and this year's olympic medals. the torch grew closer to london, police tackled a man who tried to grab the torch during its 8,000-mile journey. the french military called thousands of extra soldiers. some of the troops will be stationed at checkpoints at the olympic village but presence

has been controversial. >> it was supposed to be the security guards, a private company doing it so it's a bit of a shamble but it's been solved as long as it's secured. >> reporter: but there is another olympic hurdle. guards are threatening to walk off the job the day before opening ceremonies. >> frankly i think the union leaders who are calling for these strikes should be ashamed on themselves. and i would call for them to think about what this event is about. >> reporter: some spectators have come out a week early to soak up the olympic spirit. >> i'm not worried about anything, i'm just enjoying everything that goes on during the olympics i'll be happy. >> reporter: and many athletes have already crossed the pond to start their training too. the last london olympics were held back in 1948. he crossed the falls but did nik rolinda walk away from security costs? the city of niagra falls says he agreed to pay all security

69 degrees in central maryland, the complete forewarning weather forecast is coming up. heavy rain hammers parts of north carolina this afternoon. part of the roof collapses at a mall in charlotte. firefighters had to evacuate hundreds of people, a section of the mall flooded. the building is closed while structural engineers determine whether it's safe to return. no injuries were reported. amazing video from china as a woman narrowly escapes death on a street. watch how she narrowly drives her scooter into a tractor trailer. she ran a red light but the truck driver was also at false for going too fast. police are calling the case of two missing cousins an an duction. that decision was made after an fbi dive team failed to find their bodies in a lake. that's their bikes were found last friday. evidence was found during today's search but they did not

104 degrees at the airport down to 69. 87 the humidity, that front is pushed back to the east- northeast. we got into cool ocean air which kept the atmosphere stable. that cool air is coming in, stabilized atmosphere. the only kind of rain we expect overnight into tomorrow will be some occasional rain and drizzle maybe some showers. northeast winds, is actually kind of breezy now. 15, 14 in elkton. there's been some pretty rough surf particularly in delaware, maryland beaches and jersey as well. you probably heard of some of the the rescues they've had. we're under the influence of this air off the atlantic ocean. so most of our moisture to the south. a little more coming overnight. tomorrow we still have a lot of
