at the suspect's home. >> good evening, everyone. thanks if for joining us. many new developments tonight. bomb experts are trying to secure 24-year-old james holmes' booby-traptd apartment. holmes was arrested that friday night, and has confessed to having several bombs inside his home. mo neck has the response here in maryland, but lets begin with teresa garcia with the latest from colorado. >> a controlled explosion went off inside the booby-trapped apartment of achylessed movie theater gunman james holmes. the blast was designed to help law enforcement get inside the apartment, which he said contained a complicated array of devices, trigger wires, chemicals, and ammunition. >> translator: the threat has not within completely eliminated. it has been significantly reduced. >> reporter: holmes is in

custody, awaiting his first court appearance on monday. he's accused of massacring movie goers at the premier of the new batman film. >> a day before the shooting, some of his neighbors say they did make an impression on him. >> reporter: carl allen spoke with holmes on wednesday. >> he didn't say much to us. he had a weird look in his buy. >> reporter: we're also learning more about the victims. a.m. exsullivan was celebrating his 27th birthday. tomorrow would have been his first wedding anniversary. jessica gawhi was an aspiring sportswrite and blogger. >> her whole life has changed in a flash, for what? she still doesn't know her daughter's gone. >> reporter: and only one person knows why. in aurora, colorado, teresa

garcia, wjz eyewitness news. >> place say holmes received many deliveries to his home and work addresses over the past four months. that explains the thousands of rounds of ammunition he had. movie theaters here in maryland are also stepping up their security here. monique continue ours coverage from downtown in baltimore. >> reporter: security experts say this mass shooting may change the way we go to the movies, to the mall or other public places. >> reporter: officers on patrol and heightened security inside theaters are what movie goers can expect heading to the movies this weekend. >> i think it's to keep the safety and security of the people coming in. >> reporter: the pass consider at the dark knight premier in colorado has understandably left people female feeling uneasy. and security experts say that's because it highlighted how vulnerable people are in certain places. >> this has been a long time coming. >> reporter: michael

greenberger worked in counterterrorism, and is now the director of the maryland center of health homeland security. >> this kind of mass event in a consumer situation is something that many of us have been worried about for years. >> reporter: greenberger says traiks police in populated areas is only a short-term solution, and he believes the tragedy in aurora will force theaters and other public places to revamp how they handle security. >> i think this is the beginning of a new era of security protection that the american people are going to have to get used to. >> some theaters have already banned cost tombs and masks for the dark knight rises premier, but that may be the beginning of what's to come. >> when violence happens in stadiums or larger events anywhere, it becomes necessary. >> it's good to do tea, maybe this weekend, but i wouldn't keep it up regularly for every movie that comes out. >> reporter: and most police garments are just increasing their patrols for this weekend.

bernadette. an air force instructor in texas is sent to 20 years in prison for rape and sexual assault. a military jury at auckland aforce base found lewis walker guilty on several charges incleugd rape. he's one of 12 instructors accuse of sexual miswith female trainees. six o have been officially charged. police are investigating a shooting here in baltimore tonight. officers found a 21-year-old man bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds. that victim was rushed to the hospital, and tonight he is said to be in stable condition. police are asking anyone with information on the shooting to go ahead and call detectives. police are hoping for help in the case of a missing vulnerable adult. look at this picture of natoya

there and 69-degrees in central maryland. bernadette will have the first complete forecast. but first, a very bad crash leaves a truck dangling over the edge of a bridge in china, and the driver is literally hanging on for life. his leg was caught under the 30- ton truck. firefighters used some ropes to hoist the driver back up on the bridge, and paramedics had to work to free the man's leg. he did survive. new evidence has led investigators to believe that two missing cousins are still alive in iowa. that information came one day after fbi investigators said they do believe the girls were abducted. investigators have questioned some family members in the disappearance, but so far no arrests have been made. >> their study on dan and i is a bit out of place, although

we're not the fbi, so i believe they're just doing their job. >> one relative walked out of a polygraph, because bliss accused him of hurting the girls and knowing where they are. dozens of shoppers are evacuated from a mall in north carolina after part of a ceiling collapses on top of him. here's a look at damage from the sky. authorities say that parts of the mall were flooded with water right aft collapse. amazingly, no one was hurt in the accident. heavy rains are also blamed for causing serious damage down in tennessee. check out this giant sinkhole that opened up right outside of a hotel, taking part of a car with it. a crane was called to the scene. no one was hurt or in the car, but the car did suffer a couple of scratches. it's kind of crazy. looks like after they hoits hoisted that car out of there, it just drove right away.

they're grilling out. they're nice up there. >> not too far to the north, the sun has returned. new york was also beautiful this afternoon. we have this easterly wind right on top of us. first warning doppler radar, here is the rainmaking its way across the state where you're not seeing rain, there's still a few areas with a light, fine drizzle coming down. it's just a wet, gray doubtday out there. here's the latest batch of rain on the eastern shore on the northern side. the rain will head to d.c. and annapolis and head over the bay bridge. let's look at these rainfall totals, pretty impressive. it takes us back to when we had the thunderstorms. some of these amounts came too quickly for some areas, but overall these amounts in theory are what we need to kick some of the drought conditions. unfortunately, we did see some

flooding. 4 and a half inches in frederick, at vwai marshall, 2 and a half inches. we have coastal advisories in effect for varying times. the next couple of high tide cycles will have localized flooding out there. in addition to that, these are the 3w567s of rain we saw today. out west, already trying to achebreak up swhab an eventually that will take over, but not quite yet. and look at these temperatures, 69 degrees in baltimore for a july afternoon. when we were just in the 100s a few days ago. that's our high on the day. nearly 20 degrees below average, starting out the day on 64 degrees. and can you see, we're locked in one little pocket of cool air. out to our west, here's the heat building once again. it will move our direction once

again. 99 in denver, 97 in kansas city. if you like the heat, be patient, it's coming back. we have that stalled front to our south. it will slowly try to break up tomorrow. we could still have showers during the morning hours. a little bit of a break before another front moves our way. this front will draw that warmer air ahead of it and produce a couple scattered showers and thunderstorms monday afternoon into tuesday. so the forecast on the water, that northeast wind turns around to the southeast. still some rain and drizzle tonight and some fog tomorrow. maybe some peeks of sunshine in the afternoon. 85 for our high. and then here comes those 90s, 91 on monday, 94 on tuesday, before we cool it down once again. >> weather like this just perfect. sat in the sports bar last night had a couple beers, watched the baseball game. >> and if you watched jim thome
