ripken found. the mother of cal was missing but is now safe. >> the investigation into what happened. good afternoon. i'm don scott. >> i'm jessica kartalija. >> here's what people are talking about today, the breaking news involving 74-year-old violet ripken. police say they discovered her unharmed hours after she was kidnapped. mike held grin has the late -- hellgren has the latest. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon. police now tell wjz that violet ripken was abducted by a man with a gun at her home. she was found in her car close to her house this morning, 24 hours after this started. police are now looking for the man who took her. >> police issued an alert reporting the 74-year-old missing. that alert came this morning an hour before she was found. authoritieses -- authorities said ripken just went missing after 8:00 last night. they put out this picture of her and a picture of

her lincoln town car. violet ripken known as vi is the mother of cal ripken and billy ripken. wjz interviewed her many times over the years. >> we were blessed with children that were very coordinated. you knew thoo from an early -- that from an early age, the things they did. not just early walkers, but the way they handled things and not necessarily a ball but when they picked up and threw an object or something. >> authorities found her in hartford county. that's where she lives. police are now handling the investigation. >> reporter: police say the man they're looking for is in his late 30s, early 40s wearing camo pants. he was armed with a handgun. ms. ripken is resting with her family. she had no injuries. participants checked -- paramedics checked her out. >> the fbi is insisted maryland

state police. we will bring you the latest today at 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00. a baltimore city man is behind bars charged with first degree murder. police say 20-year-old mark brown was driving with phillip weather ford in hartford county yesterday when they got into an argument. they say that's when brown stabbed weather ford who later died. he owns a funeral home in baltimore city. the shooting in aurora, colorado is sparking a national debate on gun control just as a major court ruling could put thousands more weapons in the hands of marylanders. a federal judge has lifted a stay on his ruling that maryland's gun permit is unconstitutional. that means in two weeks marylanders will be able to carry handguns without having to show a good and substantial reason. the first funeral following the theater shootings will be held in colorado today. this comes as this community dealing with a horrific act of -- random

at police, lit trash cans on fire and smashed store windows. 24 people were arrested. protesters are wanting to know why police used deadly force in two shootings. the family of one man has $1 man has filed -- family of one man has filed a $50 million lawsuit. >> he was run down by police and shot in the back and then the become of the head and kill -- back of the head and killed. >> 25-year-old manual diaz was acting suspiciously and ran away from officers. he would not stop when police ordered him too and threw something on the roof of an apartment complex. the two officers involved are on paid administrative leave. on tuesday rioters threw chairs and rocks through windows of a starbucks. >> i was sitting in the corner when a rock hit the window. >> the city council approved a resolution calling for a federal

investigation into the shootings. >> the other police involved shooting that is sparking protests happened on sunday. police say the return fire after a suspected gang member ran from a stolen vehicle and shot at them. crews found the body of a teenager who drowned. several people saw the teen going into the pond on old stagecoach road but no one saw him resurface. once found we're told firefighters and medics did administer cpr but he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. his name has not been released. weather wise, it is a beautiful day out there. a little on the warm side, but i don't know, we're not complaining in here. taking a live look outside, a very clear sky. if you think today is on the warmer side, you won't necessarily like what's coming up. wjz is live with first warning weather coverage. marty is enjoying the out back. bernadette woods is in the weather center with a great hair
