learned new information from police that there was more ammunition inside that home than first thought. more than 2,000 rounds, they're now telling us. they're also saying these threats to shoot everyone in the workplace, happened while he was in the process of being fired. he told a supervise he was -- supervisor he was going to blow out his brains on the sidewalk. >> reporter: police called it a terrorist threat, a frightening discovery. they found 25 weapons inside the home of a man in crofton. sources identified him as neil prescott. they say he made threats of a shooting rampage to his supervisor, including a reference to a character in the batman movie. after the recent theater massacre, authorities took no chances. >> in farkts they said i'm -- fact, he said i'm a joker and i'm going to load my guns and blow everyone up. >> reporter: police took prescott into custody for a mental health evaluation and say charges are pending. >> the individual was wearing a t-shirt that said, guns don't kill people, i do. and what went down with that

incident? the individual surrendered to us. we took him, based on petition for medical treatment to the anne arundel county medical center. >> they evacuate his building as a precaution and told wjz they found no hit list or detailed plan. >> what we believe was a significant threat has been alerted -- averted. >> reporter: police say prescott made the statement to pitney boes. he was a subcontractor to pitney bowes. but he has not been on the property for the past four months. police say he was about to be fired and that was the motive behind all of this. >> i believe thwarted some serious violence that could have happened and certainly potentially saved lives. >> reporter: also new from police, they say he is still under a doctor's care at this hour. again, charges have not been filed against him. and we have not yet heard from any family member or any representative of has family or a lawyer at this point. so these are all still just allegations.

reporting live in crofton, mike hellgren, wjz eyewitness news. >> all right. thank you, mike. now, police said they do not know yet where or when prescott bought those weapons. once again, he has not yet been charged. news of this apparent plot to kill stuns crofton neighbors. eyewitness news continues now live with jessica kartalija. she is live now with reaction from people who live near the suspect. jessica? >> reporter: well, vic, we are walking around that apartment complex. and it's a very upscale apartment complex, with a lot of younger families and young professionals who commute to washington, d.c. there are about 500 people. and many of the people that we spoke with didn't want to go on camera. but they say they are shocked and saddened to hear that this was their neighbor. >> nobody is safe. i mean, i probably feel safer in vietnam. >> reporter: robert wagner has lived in this crofton neighborhood for 30 years. >> this close to home. it kind of shatters you. >> reporter: this, after parts of a nearby kezwick apartment

complex are evacuated, when police discover a cache of weapons inside the suspect's home. >> it's crazy. it's crazy. and it lets me know it can happen anywhere, okay? you are never that safe. >> keep my doors locked for sure. >> reporter: bill stevens is a retired d.c. police officer. >> this situation that you come across, you don't know if it's real. or how to take it. so you have to provide -- proceed with caution and think of it as a viable threat. >> reporter: investigators say inside the suspect's home, they found more than 20 guns, including assault rifles and handguns and 400 rounds of ammunition. >> and there's a lot of kids in the neighborhood, too. and that's definitely a concern. through kids, you get somebody flying through here or shooting up. and they don't care who they're shooting at. >> reporter: now, again as mike hellgren just mentioned, authorities have said that they found 2,000 rounds of ammunition inside of that apartment. neighbors that we spoke with say they are just happy that the entire plot was foiled.

we're live in crofton, anne arundel county, i'm jessica kartalija, wjz eyewitness news. >> jessica, thank you. here's what we know now about that shooting plot. police say 28-year-old neil prescott threatened to shoot up his workplace. detectives found more than 20 guns in his crofton home. he right now is undergoing a mental health evaluation. and charges are pending. stay with wjz for complete coverage of the workplace threat arrest. we'll keep you updated. a young maryland girl is accidentally killed by gunfire. 12-year-old taylor louis of willards in wicomico county, was shot in the head last night. she was inside her home on state street at the time. the wicomico sheriff says the shooting was accidental and a rifle was taken into evidence. and an investigation is under way. the search continues tonight for the man who abducted vi ripken at gunpoint. the fbi is helping with that investigation. we are live now in harford county. rochelle ritchie has more on the efforts to find the

suspect. rochelle? >> reporter: aberdeen police say they have received a few tips, but no solid leads. they're hoping that showing the suspect's picture repeatedly will help them find him. >> take a look at this picture. have you seen this man? aberdeen police, the fbi, and maryland state troopers say he's armed, he's dangerous. and suspected of kidnapping vi ripken, mother of cal rip 10, -- ripken, jr. >> the last picture you'll see in the photograph. he was wearing a long white shirt, blue jeans had a hat on. >> reporter: investigators say on tuesday, ripken was held at gunpoint and kidnapped from her garage, behind her home of 46 years. >> reporter: 74-year-old ripken was tied up and forced into the back seat of her car. the suspect never asked for a ransom and never mentioned her famous last name. instead, he drove her around for a terrifying 24 hours. >> i couldn't believe it. >> i can't imagine what his purpose was. >> we had no reason to believe it's not an abduction. >> reporter: talk of the

kidnappings, circling the city, as well as flyers with the suspect's picture. the image released yesterday shows the suspected kidnapper in a white dress shirt and orange baseball cap. he's a white man in his mid-30s to mid-40s, standing 5'10" and 180 pounds, with short brown hair and glasses. police say the suspect drove a bound ripken around central maryland for hours before oddly, but thankfully returning her to her home safely. >> what was the answer? to drive around for 24 hours? >> reporter: today, aberdeen police officers sit outside the home of ripken's daughter. neighbors say the police activity is strange but understood. >> reporter: and the ripken family has not commented publicly about the investigation or the kidnapping. however, they did release a written statement, saying they were thankful for vi ripken's safe return. back to you. >> rochelle, thank you. a $2,000 reward is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest. another day of very warm

summer weather heats up maryland. this man is so hot, walking through druid hill park. he uses his shirt to take care of himself, wipe off his sweat. some cloud coverage helped block out the sun at times today. but it was still steamy. wjz found a lot of people trying to beat the heat at pools across the region. and taking a live look outside right now. the sun is still out. heating up the evening. but we are out of danger at this hour, as the heat advisory has been canceled. wjz has complete first warning weather coverage. let's get right to bob turk, who is monitoring the weather conditions in the first warning weather center. bob? >> a lot better today than yesterday. we had heat index of 107. today, it did get up to the mid tourn 90s. but didn't quite reach the heat criteria. as far as radar goes. we have shower activity north of us and south of us right now. the activity looks like it's going to pass mainly to our north or to our south. and there's a batch here between dubois and pittsburgh.

that might run into our region later tonight. there's still a risk of a scattered shower or thundershower. most of the activity, now from d.c. south, across portions of i-95, just south of washington. and particularly across central and southern virginia. may see some pretty good stuff down there. right now, it's pretty quiet across much of maryland. looks like it might just stay that way. 93 degrees now. dew point 71. 90 with a dew point 71. feels like 96. not like 107, like yesterday. now, we had pretty good rainfall in some areas yesterday. in fact, north of the city, over an inch in bel air. almost really over an inch and a half up in the sparks area. westminster, about 2/3rds. down by bwi, only about 23/100ths. that's the official rainfall for the day. some areas south of us didn't see a drop of rain. and once again tonight, some areas we'll see some downpours, maybe isolated. most areas probably won't see much at all. vic? >> complete first warning weather coverage continues now

that session on august 9th. >> reporter: for weeks, the administration has tried to build a consensus on the addition of table games in the state's slots casinos. a reduction of the 67% casino tax rate. and approval of a sixth casino likely to be at the harbor. the tax rate reduction is off the table. a move that will make it apparently easier to get a vote off the bill. the session begins august 9th and will likely take three days. enable being them to get it on the november ballot. >> it's time to create the thousands of needed jobs. time to maximize funding for gaming. >> republican leaders are already voicing public opposition. >> i think we had an emergency situation when we adjourned sine die without a budget. >> and it was the gambling issue that derailed the budget in april, forcing a special session in may. >> reporter: if all goes as planned, this would be a big year for maryland voters to

tell the general assembly what they think of its work. not only on gambling, but same- sex marriage,in n-state tuition for undocumented immigrants and redistricting. >> it will get separate consideration after the november election. bigad shaban has all of the excitement for wjz from olympic park. >> reporter: the olympic torch ended its 8,000-mile journey at london's tower bridge on opening day. queen elizabeth held a session at buckingham palace. chatted with prince william and his wife kate. the first lady is leading the u.s. olympic delegation. about 1,000 children joined her for some games and exercise at the u.s. ambassador's residence. they played soccer, tennis and tug-of-war. there were a few first-day glitches as officials rang in the games.

cab drivers went on strike and caused heavy traffic jams because they're not allowed to use the olympic express lanes. fans were turned away from an archery event after purchasing apparently bogus tickets. and a small group of protestors dem straighted against dow chemical. >> reporter: more than 60,000 spectators are filing into olympic stadium for more than $42 million opening ceremony. >> reporter: but for those who couldn't get a ticket, the pub is the place to watch. in central london, british flags hang over many of the lesser pubs in the square. hical allen came to grab a point and watch the opening ceremonies just across town. >> because we'd probably spend most of our time in a pub on friday anyway. so it's just a coincidence that the olympics are on. it's a good place. >> reporter: 220 athlete the will take place in over 20 sports in the next two weeks. so this british bash won't be over any time soon.

85, ocean city. 77 out in oakland. garrett county has had a pretty nice summer, honestly. of course, it's 1,000, 2,000, 3,000 feet up. it's a lot cooler than urban areas. 86 hagerstown now. 93 in washington. 87 in elkton. and 88 up in westminster. 89 in rock hall. even by the water, it's pretty warm. 90, kent island. and annapolis as well. we had our west wind here. to the west of us, more of a southwest wind. don't think we'll have much of a wind to deal with over the next couple of days. but it will keep us in the moist for the most part, atmosphere. big storms here in southern arkansas. to our north, shower activity across new england this morning. and later this afternoon, another batch of rain developing over portions of virginia and west virginia. and across portions of pennsylvania. this is going to pass primarily to the north tonight. the activity in virginia. it is weakening. but moving across virginia. probably in areas south of d.c. maybe extreme southern maryland. and the lower eastern shore. most of the activity here.

we're talking about, the multiple sources we're talking about identified as neil prescott. inside his home here in crofton, police found more than 25 weapons and now they're telling us, more than 2,000 rounds of ammunition. he was a subcontractor for pitney bowes. the company says he hadn't been on their property for more than four months. authorities say he was so mad about being fired, he lashed out. >> reporter: in light of what happened a week ago, in aurora, colorado, it's important to know, the community to know, that we take all threats seriously. and if you're going to make a threat, we will take action. >> reporter: during a field interview with their officers, the individual was wearing a t- shirt that said guns don't kill people, i do. so the multiple threats, the nature of the threats, and that action together led us to a place where we could get an emergency petition.

>> reporter: now, police say they took him into custody. he has not been formally arrested or charged. he is right now getting an emergency psychological evaluation at a hospital nearby. and he is still under the care of a doctor. but they do expect charges, some sort of charges to be filed against him as they sort through all that has happened here. and really shaken this quiet community. reporting live in crofton, mike hellgren, wjz eyewitness news. >> thank you, mike. and we invite you to stay with wjz. we'll have complete coverage of this workplace threat arrest. we'll have the latest on this developing story coming up tonight at 11:00. a key witness whose identity was not known during the jerry sandusky trial is coming forward with his story. two pennsylvania attorneys have released recordings. former penn state coach jerry sandusky left for one of his victims two months before his arrest. they say they've identified the person previously known only as victim number 2. that is who mike mcqueary testified seeing in a locker room shower with sandusky 10 years earlier.

>> i was just calling to see if you had any interest in going to the penn state game this saturday. i'll have to talk to you later. thanks. love you. >> reporter: victim's attorney plans to file a civil suit against penn state. sandusky remains in jail, awaiting sentencing. the man convicted in michael jackson's death is reaching out to the pop star's mother. conrad murray has reportedly asked katherine jackson to visit him in jail. murray is the doctor accused of accidentally killing the singer in 2009. he said he wants to put mrs. jackson at peace by answer any questions she may have. a represent for mrs. jackson says she is unlikely to accept the offer. a dangerous infection may have come from a traveling medical technician. michelle miller reports for wjz. one victim is now speaking out. >> reporter: officials say david quikowski was a serial infector. >> he was working through kind

of a temp agency that would send people from place to place. so he worked in many different hospitals, probably a half dozen different places over the last couple of years. >> reporter: one of his alleged victims spoke to cbs affiliate wbz. >> my daughter just got married. she's going to have children in the future. who knows if i'll be around for them. >> reporter: quikowski, 33 years old, is believed to have tested positive for hepatitis c in june 2010. he was last employed as a lap -- lab technician in exeter, new hampshire, where authorities say he stole fentanil, a powerful painkiller, and also exposed patients to the virus. it's called drug diversion, in which he stole markets, intended for a patient, and injected himself with it. contaminating the syringe. he then refilled the syringe with a different substance, such as saline, which was then injected into the patient. passing on the virus.

has parents told the fbi that he took a lot of prescription drugs. his coworkers were worried about behavior that was unusual. >> some observed him sweating, red-placed-- red-spaced, blood shot. and according to one witness, unfit to provide medical care. >> reporter: all four hospitals where quikowski worked, are contacting patients where he worked. no links have been made to maryland. 98 rocks. dj steven smith who goes by the name stash on the air, has been let go from 98 rock. this comes after he was charged with dui. sunday, police say the 48-year- old was driving when his car slammed into another stopped at a red light. a man is recovering tonight. this morning, a paramedic

responded to a sick case at a home in the 200 block of east 33rd street. and as the paramedic tried to get a man out of the house on a stretcher, the porch of the home collapsed. and they all fell into the basement. police believe the man was a squatter. >> don't know his association to the structure, whether he lived here before, whether he was renting it. we have no idea but we do know that the home was vacant. >> reporter: the paramedic was able to climb out of the basement on his own. and rescue crews brought the patient to safety. he did not have any serious injuries. the early-warning system for the chesapeake bay bridge is getting an upgrade. the maryland transportation authority is installing advanced weather monitoring instruments. they also advised whether to close the bridge when strong winds hit. the changes come a month after a truck driver nearly lost his life in an accident. baltimore's mayor is taking fresh criticism for her stand on immigrants coming into the

city. alex demetrick reports, that criticism is coming from a familiar source. >> reporter: federal immigration and customs enforcement often rely on locals. but the new order forbids police from asking about immigration status. >> i believe her policies are counter productive. i think she's harming the residents of the city with what she's advocating. >> reporter: delegate pat mcdonogh says they are turning main street into an open road for illegal immigrants, making it easy for them to find work. >> you're bringing in illegal aliens to take those jobs. you're displacing americans, whether they're black or white, mostly young people. >> unlike many cities, there are jurisdictions that are unpleasant. we want people to know that we're a city where you're welcome. you don't have to fear for your safety because of your immigration status. >> reporter: businesses that cater to those immigrants spell out where they're from.
