good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon. it's expect ed the take just a little bit longer than originally estimated. everything should be fixed in time for the grand prix. >> work has steadily progressed in the more than 2 weeks since a 123-year-old water main burst flooding the area, causing a traffic nightmare downtown. now publicworks official tell wjz they're almost done replacing that main and two others. it will be 3 more weeks before light street reopens to traffic. >> we are facing another 10 days worth of actual pipe work and then right after that we're looking probably at another 10 days or so for the are restoration, paving, cleaning up. >> the repairs have taken extra time because of the underground utility. crews decided to replace two other ageing mains. here's what's left to do. replace a main along redwood, install any valves, hydrants and

phelps making olympic history. yesterday he received his 18th and 19th olympic medals making him the most decorated olympian of all times. he barely missed gold in the 200 meter butterfly but got silver and he and his teammates won gold in the free style relay. he still has three events left. the u.s. women's gymnast team is making room for gold of their own. they put on a near perfect performance to grab gold. it is the first time since 1996 the u.s. team has won in women's gim nas i cans. after more than three decades with city police commissioner fred bealefeld is saying good-bye. he was one of the longest serving police commissioners. baltimore's homicide rate was down 12% with fewer than 200 murders for the first time since 1978. no word on who will replace bealefeld.

welcome back. clouds will mix with sunshine at times today. we're still in this very unsettled air mass we've been tauging -- talking about for the past couple of days. this is what we've got going on. the storm making its way up the coast. you see these storms moving in the different formations. these are associated with the costal storms where as what you're seeing back if here are associated with the front that's going to make its way through. everything is stopped up.

a thunderstorm just northwest of the city, it's died down somewhat. also lower parts of the eastern shore, we've seen a strong thunderstorm putting down a lot of rain drifting off to the beach. it's going to be moving into ocean city for everyone at the beaches. this is what it's been looking like. we had the thunderstorms come in from the west. notice there is some clearing. both of these storms are going to be leaving us for tomorrow. winds light out there. because of that we're going to see the storms that do form they don't move that much and there's going to be a lot of rain underneath any one of those. with the clouds around it's only 79 in baltimore, 80 dc. just im pressive out there. this is the front. you can see they're both stopped up at this point. everything will get moving tomorrow. you also notice to the west there's
