good evening everyone thanks for joining us. i'm adam may, let's start with the severe weather hitting baltimore right now. you can see the storm rolling in over the inner harbor and the heavy rain and thunder hit the region, winds were whipping. over the city the rain over baltimore has trickled down. bernadette woods is live, she has a look at live doppler radar. still warnings and watches out there now. >> the line that moved over the city are still in effect for parts of queen anne's county and kent county until 7:30. that line is moving out of

there pretty quickly. picking up some speed. moving about 30 miles per hour earlier, now over 30 miles per hour. the southern side of it has broken up. but on the southern side there are more thunderstorms and even behind all of that we have another batch which looks like it's going to move down through galina and down toward chestertown. a watch where you see the pink, that's until 9:00 tonight as far as temperatures go we got up to 95, 96 degrees this afternoon. when these storms came through it dropped us about 20 degrees. that's the effect that a lot of these storms are having ahead of us. we'll have a full forecast coming up. remember that wjz.com is always on for instant updates on live doppler radar any time, log on to wjz.com. now to our other major

story tonight. a mass shooting at a sheik temple in los angeles. right now police are calling it an act of domestic terrorism. let's start with randall pinkston. he has the latest from oak crick -- oak creek. >> reporter: police blocking the ambulance to the temple after a man opened fire on a sheik temple. >> an officer was shot multiple times, another officer engaged the suspect, the officer did engage with the suspect and that suspect is deceased. we're treating this as a domestic terrorist type incident therefor the fbi has the resources needed to help

investigate that. after the shoot out with the police officer, four bodies were inside the temple, three others outside. several other people were wounded includeing the man's uncle he says the shooting happened before many worshipers arrived for sunday services. >> if had happened an hour or two later who knows how much people would be hurt or dead. >> reporter: many people were waiting outside waiting to hear information about what happened. some say people inside the building hid in rooms to escape the gunfire. >> my mom called my cousin and she said there's a shooting don't come. she said that her and 15 others locked themselvess in a pantry. police say it appears there was only one gunman. they have not released any details on what may have led to the shooting. our cbs affiliate in that area is also reporting there was a children's birthday party there at the time. our coverage continues with

derek valcourt. he has more on their heartbreak and solidarity. >> reporter: for many of the sheik here this was a nightmare come true. at the temple in baltimore county they are praying after news of the attack in wisconsin. >> here our deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims. >> reporter: the motive of the attack are unknown. the sheik faithful say that they are often confused with -- >> many fear that this kind of thing that happened in wisconsin can happen any where any time. >> reporter: the muslim council agreed he came to stand in

solidarity with a sheik. >> we cannot stand on people to take away our initiative. that's why we're here, to tell the sheik community we share your sorrow. >> reporter: the members of the sheik community say they will be working over the next couple of days to see what kinds of assistance they can provide. >> eyewitness news will have the latest on the shootings. we'll have that tonight on eyewitness news at 11:00. now to hartford county where a shooting has left a man dead. he shot himself after firing shots at his live in girlfriend. a 40-year-old woman was shot. she fled with her adult daughter. another woman was in the home, police rescued her from the

building. and elroy cole was found inside the home later. shots were fired into the crowd near the university on saturday morning. watson and brandon were arrested. police believe that a fight broke out near the university that led up to the shooting. there are no reports of any injurys from that shooting. it's been a tough couple of months for a charitable man. batman is getting a new toy and he hope it is kids will love it. >> reporter: this car is a limited edition. lenny b. robinson custom ordered it three years ago and it finally came in this week. another thing about robinson, he's baltimore's batman. robinson has spent his spare time visiting sick children in

hospitals across the country. back in march he was headed to a hospital then when police pulled him over for not displaying his license plate. >> he was just like, hey buddy, you have a license plate. >> reporter: shortly after the colorado movie shooting that killed 12 people and wounded dozens more, two hospitals called canceling the visit with robinson. >> i understand their decision, and all the other hospitals welcomed me. >> we saw the car, and thought it would have been a good idea to follow him. cool car. >> reporter: despite the shooting in aurora, colorado, robinson says he's received many more phone calls from many hospitals around the nation asking him to bring the bat mobile and greet kids at the

hospital. i'm gigi barnett, wjz. >> gigi is off to the bat lair there. robinson said he wanted the original vehicle, and he says he now has the proper license plates as well. we have to tell you about a scam targeting two big local names, bge and catholic charities. right now an investigation is being done of the website craigslist, residents have found postings on the site offering to take care of outstanding bills for a fee. both catholic charities say they provide assistance through the samaritan center and they would never charge. if you think you may have been a victim call the center. typically during august gas prices will drop but since last week they've risen seven cents,

an increase this month. >> epa actually requires refineries to use a cleaner burning fuel during the summer months. they typically make that switch over during the spring which we see translate into slightly higher gas prices. how are during the fall that requirement is not in place so we typically at the pump see a bit of a break. >> a month ago a gallon was $3.31. a year ago we were playing $3.69. we have a lot more still to come on eyewitness news. an out of control wildfire hits maryland. a domestic shooting a man opens fire on his wife. you're not going believe where he did it. and nasa, they're calling it seven minutes of terror. it's a trip to mars it all

in baltimore the showers are lingering at 75 degrees still have severe weather on the eastern shore. bernadette has the first weather forecast coming up. first, check this out. we're not the only ones getting

some storms. very impressive lightning in st. louis. the video was shown friday night. now to oklahoma where families in one neighborhood are picking up the pieces after a raging wildfire devours their homes. here you can see what is left of some of the homes in luther that's about 30 miles north east of baltimore city. today the mayor toured the remains of one neighborhood t. fire damaged about 56 homes and other buildings. >> you practice the rules at school but you don't have to follow them very often and you don't know what you're going to get. >> a man was shown throwing burning newspapers out of his truck. a man was accused of shooting his wife as she layed in a hospital bed. police say the 66-year-old walk into his wife's hospital room at akron general hospital and

opened fire hitting his wife. she did survive and she's in critical condition. no one else was hurt. the suspect was arrested by hospital security immediately. he now faces charges of attempted murder. no word on the motive. the count down is on for what nasa is calling seven minutes of terror. that's how long it's going to take for the mars rover curiosity to get from space to the surface of mars. társ -- it's going to happen at 1:30 this morning. after traveling 350 million- miles from earth the curiosity will hit the martian atmosphere traveling at 13,000-miles-an- hour. put on the brakes, huh. if all goes as plans, curiosity will spent two years on mars gathering data and what they're looking for is any sign that is there might have been life on that planet some time ago. >> that's so amazing. >> back here on planet earth: we're dealing with strong storms. >> really strong one.

welcome back everybody. since we last spoke, the severe watch has been cancelled for parts of the state. we're going to go to doppler radar and this line has really broken up for maryland. you can see it still has strong thunderstorms in delaware and headed over jersey. for maryland that's what it looked like earlier when we had a lot of the warnings that is now gone. this part of the storm has broken up. just not what we saw earlier. there's another line behind this and we're going to get to

that in just a moment. so we may not be finished tonight. switch it over and this is what the watch warnings the map looks like. a couple of warnings for delaware. a severe thunderstorms watch for northern parts of the eastern shore and southern parts of maryland that's about it right now. the rest of the watch has been cancelled. the first of the winds goes. where the storms hasn't gone through yet still in the 90s where it drops from 96 degrees to 75 in baltimore. with those storms going through. behind it rebounds back to the low 80s before dropping tonight. 96 that was our high today. 86 is our average. we're going to drop some what over the last couple of afternoons with this front moving down to our south. what happens is this. it moves just enough to the south after we're done with this line tonight we're going to get a little bit of a break. later tomorrow and tuesday. before that happens this is the next line that we were talking about. everyone though this line is moving through there's a little

bit more to come. that's going to linger through tomorrow morning before all of it moves to the south. after that it stalls out tuesday night just to the south before a new area of low pressure moves wit and then draw everything back to the north wednesday into thursday. when that happens our thunderstorms chances are going to go up again. this ernesto tropical storm winds. along this track it's going to move through the area where there could be some strengthening before making land fall. that's something we could be watching t -- watching possible as a hurricane. also farther out, much farther out. weakening as that happens so we'll continue to track that for you and keep you updated on to the latest. here's the forecast in our waters. small craft advisory in effect. just a little while longer but
